1/2. Yesterday I had an early appointment so no time to do hair or much else other than toss on some old favorite pieces. It turned out to be cooler than I expected so I ran back to grab my new short trench, with which I am really happy! Fun fact: I had a short trench a few years ago but I gave it away, in part because the sleeves were too long. I think this one will have more staying power!

3. Today is my weekly Rotary Club meeting and the speaker is somebody from the fashion industry so I wanted to be a little fashiony. This dress is from the Amazon version of Project Runway called Making the Grade that was on a few years ago. You could go online and buy the winning designs, and that's where this dress came from. I love it!

Hi all! I've been MIA for ages but decided to pop in.

When I read Angie's post about the hip scarf trend, I was like "nah, I don't think that's for me." But then in my closet, I spied the scarf I received as a Secret Santa this past year.

It's really pretty but I don't really wear black and white near my face. And it gave me a new outfit! Normally, I wouldn't pair pink with black...prefer light colors with pink. But the combo couldn't be denied with the scarf.

I think it's really pretty and will probably give it another go, but I'm just not sure I like all the bulk on my tummy. And I pull it taut so I have the diagonal line but 10 minutes later it rides up and sits all bulky again.

Pants are Cinq a Sept from last fall...couldn't find them. Very high waist but it's pretty straight so it works. It has a super cool belt which tipped the sale:) Blouse is Paige on sale about 4 year old.

Anyone have any ideas how I can keep the scarf in check? I'm open to thoughts and ideas!

Suz on "Wearing the Fab Finds and a bag question"

Here I am in my already-beloved Vionic loafers (I definitely need a second pair!) and the Wit and Wisdom utility pants from Angie's blog, plus the now almost ubiquitous pink denim jacket -- off to take my cat to the vet for his arthritis shot.

These pants are very light weight cotton. This is a "stovepipe" wide leg, not flared at the bottom. I tend to prefer the A line versions of wide legs, but I like these, too. These are a false plain. It's hard to see, but there is a fun pocket detail of stripes going in a different direction. These pants have a ton of pockets -- great for gardeners!

Now for the bag question: In the past few years, I had grown accustomed to carrying mostly small (ish) crossbody bags. Very convenient because they fit in my bike panniers easily, were lightweight, easy to travel with, etc.

However, since my injury, I am finding ANY crossbody bag considerably less comfortable than it used to be. It doesn't matter which shoulder I use the strap on, really. The discomfort is the same. Backpacks are also a challenge, though I can manage for a short distance.

This may or may not be a permanent change - it depends how I adapt to my new bionic part. In the meantime, the bag I am using most consistently and with the greatest comfort is this older Coach shoulder bag. (It also works as a crossbody with a strap, but I am not using it that way at the moment.)

It seems counterintuitive that a shoulder bag woudl work better, but it seems to -- I can mostly carry it on the non-injured shoulder, for one thing.

I would like to get a white or cream bag that is similar. Can anyone point me to one, ideally with silver hardware? I am sure they must exist...

Thanks for looking and any help you might provide!

I can wear what I like to work. Some days I am more among the manufacturing side of our business and the first outfit is what I might choose in winter. I like to wear my lug sole boots and thicker socks - and these are best with a straight or slim jean. Company puffer vest and turtleneck and I am ready to go. This is my most casual of winter work looks and this is well in keeping with most of our engineers and people working in similar businesses to us.

I wore the same jeans on a day to get my haircut. I liked the retro jumper with the sneakers. This feels like something that is very classic - could be 70s or
80s.

Hi Friends, I've been lurking more than participating lately but the style journey continues! At the behest of my daughter and cousin, I've been playing with an earth-inspired palette this spring - perfect given the fall-like weather!

Channeling my inner Brooklyn, I dyed a few lack-lustre pieces a milky chocolate brown, added a dark brown purse and belt, and pulled out the pieces that feel earthier to me in my wardrobe - burgundies, greens, navy (borderline I know, but a good black alternative) beiges/off whites, and browns. Add in a true red for fun (reads brighter in the photos, I think it's a true pure red irl).

A different approach for me and I'm enjoying it this spring!

Thanks for looking! Are you playing new-to-you colours or other elements this spring?

1 - tan & burgundy
2/3 - earthy-ish tones plus a pop
4 - burgundy and off white and brown
5 - column of navy
6 - dyed sweater (formerly soft white)
7 - one of my friends said she saw this hat and knew i had to have it lol
8 - pop of red
9 - more navy
10 - camel, burgundy, and off white
11 - a local "field of gold" (memory garden) - just because it was so pretty!
12 - the other dyed piece - formerly a lackluster light tan. these pants need to be slightly hemmed but I've been too lazy! chocolate accents.

I wasn't expecting to buy a pair of Levis when I walked into the store, since I rarely have much luck with their fits, or at least I haven't since my teenage years. But lo -- look what I came home with!

These are the Blue Tab "Max loose jean" -- Japanese denim with lyocell, which makes them lightweight and drapey. They are super comfortable. They have a very fun lightly frayed hem, and the SA actually hemmed them for me on the spot, keeping the original hem, at Angie's request!

I love the pocket placement both front and back.

They are a perfect summer jean, very easy to wear. Except, I should not have worn them to the garden centre where they soaked up lots of water and mud despite being the proper length, just because of those little frays.

Luckily, they washed up nicely and all is well.

It's still quite cool and gray around here so I'm in my cool-weather clothing. I'm leading a Rotary meeting today and I grabbed a brown-and-black combo. You can't really tell from the pic but the pants are tan with a black-and-reddish-brown check. The pants and cardigan are fairly new, within the last year or two. Booties are a few years old; short sleeve turtleneck top is medium old; handbag is ancient.

Any other black-and-brown lovers around here?

MsMary on "A few more WIWs from last week and the weekend"

The week has continued to be busy but I managed to snap a few outfit pics.

1. This is from a celebration of life service I went to the other day for a longtime member of my Rotary Club. I counted eight former club presidents in attendance including me, which I thought was a nice tribute to a wonderful man! You've seen all these pieces before but it was nice to have something suitable to throw on in a hurry.

2. The other day I was faffing about the house in the morning when suddenly I realized I was about to be late for my Glee Club rehearsal. Tossed on this new-this-year flannel shirt and chocolate brown cardigan with my beloved Gap Sexy Boyfriend jeans and made it out of the house just in time!

3. Lest you think I am always dressed up, here I am ready for a Saturday morning Costco run with the same jeans, Atheleta jacket, souvenir tee from the Paris Auto Show, and multicolor sandals that didn't work out quite as well as I'd hoped although they did echo the colors in the tee.

4. Yesterday I worked a shift at our Showcase House of Design and then went straight to a cocktail party. It was gloomy and wet so I used my "warm clothes in spring colors" strategy and I think it worked out pretty well. (You can't really tell but the blazer, bag, and loafers are navy.) Everything is VERY old except the loafers and pants, which are from last year.

Thanks, as always, for your comments and suggestions!

Hello.

We were back to some cold days this week for spring which gave me an opportunity to sport some sweaters and boots.

#1 to #3 - Dark Column of Navy
These Lucky Brand Stevie flares have been a workhorse this spring, I'm enjoying wearing them with boots whenever I can. I paired the jeans with a LL Bean navy cable vneck sweater, layered it over a scoopneck Treasure & Bond long sleeve tee for extra warmth and black Franco Sarto booties finished the outfit.

#4 to #6 - Soft and Light
For a complete contrast I went with a lighter palette. Ivory Caslon knit bomber jacket is new this season which I paired with a seafoam green LL Bean pullover, and a ivory Treasure & Bond long sleeve tee for extra warmth. Blue Madewell stovepipe jeans and ivory Pikolinos booties finished the outfit.

#7 to #9 - Camel, Ivory, and Blue
Another lighter palette, this time with a camel JCrew schoolboy blazer paired with an in ivory Treasure & Bond long sleeve tee, Lucky Brand Stevie flares in a lighter wash, cowgirl boots by Macie Bean, and a unknown brand horse print scarf. RL reversible belt on camel side finished the outfit.

Thanks for looking!

Hello.

After a week of cold and rainy days I was happy to return to some warmer weather today. This spring the weather has been keeping me on my toes, some days it's hot enough for a short sleeve tee and shorts, other days it's cold enough for a sweater and boots!

#1 to #3 - Trying Something New
When the weather gets too warm for jeans, I often reach for shorts. Last year I tried linen wide leg pants as an alternative and while they were comfortable, the linen seemed too beachy for my WFH lifestyle and elevated casual personal style.

This season I decided to try these JCrew chino's in stone as a non jeans, non shorts alternative.

For their first outing I paired the chino's with a moss green graphic Life is Good tee and white Ecco sneakers. My JW Pei tote from last year's NAS pairs well with the reversible Tory Burch belt on the cognac side.

#4 to #6 - What I Bought
While running errands I stepped into a Rack Room Shoes, not a store I visit often and stumbled upon these cognac Ayden Slide Sandals by Michael by Michael Shannon which perfectly matches my tote and belt.

My machy-matchy gene couldn't resist taking the sandals home. I think they work really well with the belt, bag, and chinos.

Thanks for looking!

I’ve been seeing some social media posts with such hatred for barrel pants that it’s made me laugh. I don’t know why some people seem so judgy about other people wearing a style they don’t personally enjoy.

So yesterday I laughed again as I pulled out my olive Nili Lotans and enjoyed the heck out of wearing them to spend some time at my studio (open to the public for the day) and wander around my city’s annual Flower Mart festival, which is always a lovely diversion on a spring day.

Feeling rebellious in barrel pants! LOL

Life has been crazy busy. Not with anything "wow" just the busy everyday kinda stuff. Co-op finished for the year. Still have 3-ish weeks left of homeschool left. Mein geliebter and liebersohn were both down for days with a bug. Still cracking away on finishing the kitchen. It's nearing completion and I cannot even believe it.

Easter dress (photos 1-3). This is a new dress. Purchased for autumn/winter, it never got worn. Decided instead of buying a new dress that this would be lovely. Not sure on my sandal choice. I think a navy or black dress heel or dress sandal would be better. Will have to see if I can find a pair.

Sweatshirt & Shawl (photos 4-7). A weird day. It was 52, warm sun and cold breeze. Thirfted the sweatshirt for $6. It's super comfy and from my favorite label, Girl With Curves. Wore it with my new smaller Leigh jeans, sandals, and my new shawl! I wish the shawl color was a bit warmer red, but I am using up stash. (Yay me!) Finally got blocking mats so I could block it properly. It's quite heavy since it's knit in bulky weight yarn. Pattern calls it a blanket shawl, I don't find that entirely accurate? It's a normal sized shawl on me, just a heavy knit.

An acquaintance gifted me a bunch of makeup as a thank you. If you're a Dark Autumn or just enjoy makeup... here you go This was my first time trying Lisa Eldredge lipsticks. OH MY LANDS! Fabulous! Only one color is great for me, but the pigment and texture are amazing. Charlotte Tilbury is also amazing. Will be buying back-ups of both LE and CT lipsticks Also really love Lippie Stix and Fenty gloss. The blushes are great. NYX Buttermelt and Glossier Cloud Paint blushes are very pigmented. A dab will do you and then some.

Lipsticks

09. Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Stix - Hot Chocolit
10. Charlotte Tilbury - Walk of No Shame (Moderately warm-toned light-medium copper/rose)
11. Colourpop Lippie Stix - Goldie (neutral, medium-deep burgundy) *discontinued
12. Colourpop Lippie Stix - Love Life (brown brick red
13. Lisa Eldredge Velvet Jazz (muted, earthy brick red)
14. LE Velvet Dragon (rusty red), too warm for me
15. LE Velvet Cinnabar (reddish burnt ochre), too warm for me

Blushes
16. Nyx Buttermelt Blush - Back & Butta

17. Glossier Cloud Paint - Storm
18. Saie Glow Sculpt (cream highlight blush) - Bronze Glow
19. Milani Cheek Kiss cream blush - Merlot Moment. This one is too cool for me; will probably find it a new home.

Cool spring persists. I’m wearing some form of light weight sweater, and some style of denim jeans bottom every day. A scarf is necessary for neck warmth - and adds some interest via pattern.

Enjoying the cropped trench. Though it photographs ‘okay’ it is much more interesting in motion. I LOVE the swing style. Also, it looks better (IMO) buttoned up rather than hanging open - and is lightweight enough to wear that way (pic #1) without overheating.

Thanks for looking,

Warning, lots of photos—We've had some nice spring weather and I had a few occasions to dress up. I've been enjoying mixing the different pant silhouettes--some more successful than others. (DH always comments good naturedly on my fondness for "floods,")
Also sharing two OBG dresses (photo 9) for a couple of weekend day events. Both of these are probably 8-10 years old but in good condition (low wears.) I'm glad that I didn't weed them out but I wonder at what point do these kind of items look dated (for a suburban dweller like myself.)
Thanks for looking! Honest feedback on the dress question welcome. You won't hurt my feelings.

I've been super busy the last week or two, doing shifts at the Showcase House, getting ready for a big Rotary event, and (OMG this is super crazy) working on defending my long-lost half-sister in a lawsuit arising out of her falling for an internet scam. (No, an A-List movie star was NOT messaging you on Facebook...) No time to breathe, let alone take or post outfit photos!! Anyway...

1. Today was our Rotary Club's annual Teachers of Excellence awards luncheon and I was in charge of the whole thing. We've been working for months to choose five excellent educators and we presented them with cash awards, certificates, and best of all the school district made a short video about each of them and there was not a dry eye in the house. Tons of work but it was a huge success. You've seen this outfit before -- all the pieces are old standbys -- but it was good for being on the podium.

2. Last night we went to a supper club meeting and I wore this jacket my husband bought me a couple of Christmases ago, along with shiny silver shoes to match the buttons. Big fun although I wish I didn't look so busty in the photo. Fun fact: The stripes on the cuffs of the black jacket are navy, so I got bold and teamed it with navy pants.

3. Voice lesson on Tuesday and I grabbed something easy. The jacket is ancient, the knit top is from my working days, and the jeans are my old beloved Gap Sexy Boyfriends. The sneakers jumped out of a store window in Amsterdam a few years ago and followed me home.

4. This is from last week. I wore this to Glee Club in the morning and then changed out the maroon jacket and booties for black to go to a funeral in the afternoon.

It's times like this when I'm happy to have a nice functional closet! Thanks for looking and commenting if you are so inspired!

I recently found Jonathan Hiebert on Instagram, and this particular video, about authenticity, really speaks to me.

Here are some WIWs, and a WIWW.

The WIWW is a HEWI - a Hawaiian dress that I always hoped for, and never expected to find. Bonus: it aligns with another HEWI - Kate Hudson’s blue dress in the overdose scene of Almost Famous.

Now if I could just find some embroidered, fitted 1970s-style boots, in my size, and not priced out like a mortgage payment…

I NE-VER travel for work but I got sent to a conference in Atlanta last week and this is what I brought, which I was pretty happy with.

1. Fave black dress with T-shirt over it —Travel outfit that had leggings, hoodie, and jacket added on the Boston end.

2-3 We’ve seen these before.

4. Same black dress for “fancy banquet” night.

5. For last day of conference and going to an excellent street fair in another part of town.

6. For flying home.

HOWEVER. Somehow I lost my favorite, most sentimental bracelet (that a very amazing and long-gone relative gave my mother around 1960) and am pretty devastated about it. I’ve worn it hundreds of times and it’s never just fallen off so I have no idea what happened.

Another some how I ended up trendy collection.

I don’t wear a ton of pattern, but stripes and polka dots have always appealed to me. And so I was excited to see polka dots are having a moment

The tee shirt in #1 is one of the few black things I have bought in recent years, but the subtle, shiny polka dots just spoke to me and made me happy. Worn here with my Levi daddy barrels, which are slowly becoming my #2 reached for pair of jeans. And finished off with patent leather flats. In white, yes, Angie you where right, white shoes for the win
#2 is a classic, boring WFH outfit, but the tee is stripes and polka dots— allowing me to pattern mix!

Thanks for looking. As always all comments and suggestions are welcome and appreciated

I am a volunteer reading tutor at a local elementary school, and tonight was the Literacy and Arts celebration. The children, their parents, and the volunteers had a great time! I needed to dress up a bit for this event, but not too much. I swapped out my trusty dark wash jeans for ecru Levi's wide leg jeans. I just purchased the Marine Layer rainbow sweatshirt at the 4/18 Fabiversary celebration and know it will become a three-season wardrobe workhorse. I hope the matching pants are still available in my size.

The Helly Hansen short trench arrived remarkably quickly and I tried it on again yesterday and this morning.

First photos are again with wide leg jeans. It looks a bit brighter in these photos than IRL because it was sunny and also I had to increase exposure due to the window situation The colour in #6 is slightly greyer than IRL. Somewhere in between is the true colour. Not my absolute best, but it I think it is okay.

This morning I put it on with a skirt to see how that would work and ended up wearing it out the door. It rained this afternoon as I was walking home, so I guess I'm keeping it!

Worn over oversized cardigan -- it fits fine that way.

It's quite a nifty little jacket! The hood is fabulous. Adjustable and removable.

Quick snap of an outfit featuring the olive barrel pants (linen/viscose -- fresh from their first laundering, so far so good) that I got at Anthropologie during Fabiversary gathering #1.

Also some Sam Edelman espadrilles that I was admiring in Bloomie's and Angie agreed fit my aspirational summer wardrobe plan. Subsequently found them on discount at Zappo's so had to order to give them a try. I'm putting them through their inside-the-house comfort paces before committing, but so far signs look good.

This week has been filled with in person meetings and while I was back in jeans today, I wanted to sneak in some horsey vibes for the office.

My Rails horsey button-up was exactly what I needed. I added a long sleeve Halogen tee for extra warmth underneath the shirt and popped a camel JCrew blazer over the top. My workhorse dark wash Lucky brand Stevie flares, camel cowgirl boots, and RL reversible belt on the camel side finished the outfit.
