Unfortunately the flight was just a bit too short so I couldn’t quite finish it, but have Googled the ending! Seems a good ending. Where do i begin? The film came out when i was 12-13 and just starting to be aware of style. Prior to that the 70s style reigned: tight bellbottoms with fitted tops, lots of denim and polyester, a look that had been there for most of the decade and was starting to look stale, even to my very young eyes. Then Annie Hall burst on to the scene bringing everything fresh: androgynous references, loose silhouettes, natural fabrics that were allowed to crumple, neutral colours. The vibe was intellectual but rebellious, and I was smitten! I remember buying the loose khaki cotton pants, the brown man’s vest, loose off-white woven tops to go with. The look felt so fresh and so me: bookish but with an intellectual rebel streak. She didn't show a lot of skin, but also didn't overcompensate with a bold or sexy personality. She was awkward and too nice, like a perpetual Midwesterner.
