I’m sorry I haven’t yet replied on my previous posts!! My family and I all got sick, then everyone got sick *again* a week later. (We have never been this sick before—it’s bizarre.) And now we are leaving tomorrow on a short family trip. :}

Dilemma
New active/loungewear just arrived. I would loooove to wear these for the trip. But…

I’m not sure if the top is super flattering on me?

The joggers I feel are.

I wear sweats to get coffee, workout, so these aren’t “home only” sweats.

I tried a couple of rubber band tricks with the top. My feeling is having the sides nipped in at the waist would help a lot. (Sweats in my experience are usually not designed for curvy women.)

Yay? Nay? Okay with alterations?

Thank you, my dear fabbers!

Hello,
Long time since I have posted here, because things have been chugging along fine with my low turnover wardrobe, but now I crave your advice !

My oldest daughter is getting married in March and I am looking for an outfit.
I am thinking pale blue because the bridesmaids are wearing pink, and it is sure to be a hot or warm day in Australia.
I really prefer structured, tailored sheath, type dresses (think Cue) but most dresses I have found online searching are fit and flare with full skirts.

However, I have found one I like online see attached screenshot, but I have not heard of the brand before. It's called Maddyparis.
1) do any of you know if it's legitimate?
2) how well does it fit as per the size chart?

I have been eyeing this beautiful saturated indigo popover shirt for a while, from Marks and Spencer. My size(s) are back in stock, and I am thinking of getting it today. But I need to decide the size.

According to measurements, I am a US 10. But I am also busty and with wide shoulders, which means I often do better sizing up. (Otherwise I can get a bunching effect at the armpits.) But this is with things like tees, blazers, sweaters, etc.

The design of this shirt seems that it would allow for room across the chest/torso at my regular size. I would rather get my regular size for a trim fit across the shoulders. But I will size up if that is a better idea.

(The customer reviews say "true to size," and the measurements I took were compared to the company size chart.)

Do you think a 10 or a 12 is better? Thanks.

I only have 10 minutes left before I have to leave to work. I kind of liked Carla‘s idea about skirt, I kind of forgot that skirt is also an option LOL
I know most of you are in different time zone so hopefully I will get some imput before it is truly late, photo session is scheduled for afternoon.
I am thinking about this 2 possibilities, but I am also thinking of bringing both blazers and also navy pants with me. What do you think?

I do love the glitter, white/yellow checked shoelaces. And I could do with a pair of extra white and black sneakers this season.

Holiday party for our 55-plus community at a nearby restaurant a week and a half from tonight. Specifies "Cocktail attire." I was originally going to wear a black dress, but shoes are a problem for me. And it's going to be COLD. Many women are wearing pants. I have a pair of (several seasons old) Halogen waist-high, wide-leg pleat-front black pants in a gabardine-esque fabric. What kind of top could I buy (online) to dress them up? I am 5'4" (about 128 pounds) with puny shoulders and wider hips. TIA!!

Hi friends, sorry, I seem to be a forum hog with lots of questions lately. Last minute going to a visitation today and I have little that's appropriate in summer-weight clothing (thank goodness it's mild today so I won't melt).

Wondering if this shirt seems sombre enough, worn with black pants, shoes and purse ... it's very business-looking but still a true colour iykwim. High anglican visitation (not the funeral) for cultural context (he was a bishop so a big deal event for the family).

I also have my Uniqlo black blouse but that might be excessively black?

I'm going to need to triple Spanx myself into these bloody pants :(

ETA - one more option. Navy skinny cropped pants and navy blouse. More comfortable. Pants are dated-to-my-eye though. Think I'm going to wear this. I need to be able to breathe haha.

Thanks for your opinions!

Spending a girlfriends' weekend in Chicago -- all 60-plus retirees. No idea what to wear. Just casual. Can I wear my black cotton cropped wide leg pants (Target A New Day - 2 years old! ...or is it 3? :0 )? If so, how do I layer them for the windy city and unpredictable weather mid May?

I'm willing to buy a few pieces to layer, but I don't know WHAT. Short denim jacket? Something else? For Saturday, we will be touring, going to early dinner and SC show.

Also, can I wear my white cross trainers? (I have AWFUL feet.) TIA!

Hi to all,
I am finishing packing for a black tie optional event. The outfit is as I showed you the other time. Shoes and clutch are gold, I followed your advice to match them.
The question is, does a short white pearl necklace need to be matched?
I am planning to wear it with a filigree gold bracelet, my gold and silver watch,
band and diamond ring.
Is the pearl necklace ok with that or should I skip it?
Thank you very much for your advice.
I am not the best with how to put jewelry together

So Angie's post got me thinking - is this 'fluidly tailored' on me or just oversized? To help me decide, vote YES for Keep/ NO for Return. Thank you for explanations too

Photos 1-8 of larger fit:
(1-2) Flower: shoulders - do they align OK?
(3-4) Smiley: double cuffed sleeves (shorter)
(5-6) Heart: original 'ninja' sleeves (deep cuff)
(7-8) Party popper: tucked in VS stretched (to see how much midriff is exposed IRL)

EDIT: Mask photos #9-15 are the new, smaller fit! (+ photos #16 & #17 of another cropped top for comparing the waist length - does the blue jumper's welted hem look OK on me in comparison?)

What do you think - should I size down (vote NO) or keep this version (vote YES)? I want a lightweight jumper to wear untucked with high-rise bottoms, but I'm worried the welt is a *smidge* too long on me for that. At the same time, I'm worried sizing down will cause the hem to be *too* short whenever I move my arms above my head Thoughts?

Ticked 'urgent' because I have my eye on some other items from Boden, so would like to order the new size (if need be) with the rest of the order today Thanks YLF!

Hi. Welcome to my revamped thread. It began as an urgent post while I was in a store. Now that I’ve bought myself some time, I’ve added pix of an order that came today. I want to take advantage of EU return policies while I’m here, without getting the moving equivalent of sales goggles.

1-8 are (mostly) a jacket I loved, but I’m looking for a smaller size.

I haven’t tried the skirt in 5, but can when I go back Fri.

10-12 is a cord jumper (US definition; might be a pinny elsewhere).

13-15 is a wrap-around skirt of the same fabric as 10-12.

16-18 is a dress that I’m not convinced I need.

19-20 climate data here & where I’m headed (though I’m not sure I’ll stay there).

Note the finds I have been price-watching on (in green)

Should I try the skirt?

Now come the things I ordered

21-23 are all the same crochet topper. I am still looking for black pieces I could wear very traditionally to funerals. The white undershirt is just so you can see the crochet better.

26 is a different black top.

If I got either of these, I’d want to be able to wear it with this skirt for a funeral, and also on its own/with other things as part of my regular wardrobe.

24 and 25 are different sizes of the same top.

Markets are such dangerous places! I need to decide in the next 2.5 hours, by 6 pm mid-European time. I know exactly why I like it—it is the same color as the cotton dress with full skirt that my mom returned to the store after all the pleats came out in the wash when I was in 8th grade. No pleats to worry about this time! I’m wearing sweater tights & an undershirt with it here, would not do do oitw. In pic 3, it is not laced up. A larger size is available, but not smaller

Quick trip to the Big City, with one overnight. Tried to dress for the heat, but also the possibility of a cool morning or night, and air conditioning. The button down was breezy and a good choice, as was the sleeveless lace top. The jeans were hot when the temps soared and the city experienced an 8 hour power outage after a construction crane took out power lines! Fortunately, the power outage was after DS#2 wrote a 3 hour test (the reason for the trip), but the black-out lasted 8 hours!

Whilst DS was writing, I spent 2 hours with a bra fitter. The fitter identified the bra I was wearing (and that it was discontinued) and the size (too large - I’ve lost weight since it’s purchase before the pandemic) on sight, took some measurements, had me try on her ‘fitting bra’, and then started making recommendations. I left with two lovely Wacoal bras - one nude for me, and one black - two different, if similar styles. If I still love them in a couple of weeks, I’ll stock up.

Did some people watching and window shopping. Discerned a couple of ‘looks’ on repeat. #1 high waisted shorter shorts (4 in inseam?) with cropped tops and sneakers (high top Converse) or Birk style sandals or slides. #2 Full, puffed sleeve dresses, but sleeves styled with less ‘puff’ than seen in editorial photos. #3 Very wide cropped pants that look more like skirts and simple loose woven tops with short sleeves or sleeveless. #4 Cropped slim leg pants or jeans with white long sleeved button down worn untucked, sleeves pushed up. #5 biking shorts or leggings, body con top, sometimes a black blazer style jacket, baseball hat, dad sneakers - black and white. Also, messy buns at the back of head have been replaced by messy buns on the top of the head. I didn’t get much sense of colour (lots of white, cream, denim, black) except for the full dresses, and the store display windows and mannequins weren’t much different.

DS made a comment about all the socks and sandals (males and females) and the absence of high heels!

Thanks for looking/reading!

A younger professional friend of mine and his wife have posted their anniversary picture on facebook. (Guess I think it's YLF, LOL')
Anyway, practically everyone is saying Happy Anniversary. I want to say that or something to that effect, But I also want to compliment her on her beautiful nails. Is that appropriate? And if it is appropriate, do I use her first name, as I do his, or should I say Mrs their last name.? I have not met her.

I had an appointment to get the tires on my car rotated out (winter tires to summer tires) and since I was getting new rubber for my car it was going to take a while. I did some returns of online purchases, and then inventoried the nearby shops. Though some items went into my cart, try-ons were a bust. April looks like a no-buy month…

However, it was an opportunity to dress in a happy spring coloured combination. A young woman who was putting clothes on a rack liked my outfit and we chatted fashion - which was fun! I think a scarf would have improved this outfit, but it was easier to go without accessories when the plan is to try things on.

A change room photo with yucky lighting. Thanks for looking!

Oops! *Sorry!* nothing urgent about this thread, it should be under WIW…

Reaching deep into my closet again, I’ve pulled out a couple skirts from the 90s. I never wore the plaid one, but think I might with some kind of shorts underneath. I did wear the floral one, with Sketcher sneakers, but it’s feeling short these days, so I might want shorts with it too. Need to slip out during orientation at my son’s college & Return most of these today. Do any of them look like keepers to you? Most of them seem too long. I might hang onto the green ones for this other skirt that I don’t have along.

It's super early on the morning of my daughter's wedding and I can't sleep, so posting for advice.

Does this work?

The weather here in South Africa is unseasonably warm for late autumn/early winter. It reached 29'C yesterday! But became chilly enough that I needed sleeves in the evening and turned on the heat overnight.

Today is forecast a high of 26, and already starting to cool at 3 when the wedding officially starts.

I've dreamed of turning this ball dress (from my youngest daughter's wedding) to a Carolina Herrera look with white shirt and ball skirt. I contemplated wrapping it and belting it somehow (I brought some tartan ribbon) but that doesn't allow for de-layering should I get too hot. Does folded under and knotted this way work?

Cuffs flipped as in 1/2, or buttoned as in 3?

I have a blue gemstone bracelet I plan to wear, but will need help to do it up, so not modelled.

Expecting cold weather, I thought I'd wear a navy cashmere crewneck as my top half. So my hair down and loose would have provided the bright contrast near my face. The bride is setting me up with her hair and makeup crew. Any suggestions what I should ask for? I don't find updos to be flattering on me.

Any thoughts?

PS notice the thatched roof/ceiling in this cottage on a wine farm?

ETA: I finally settled on the reddish orange dress with my flatform sandals & chocolate rainbow earrings (attached). Thank you so much for everyone's suggestions!

---

Just realised how sticky this situation is to dress for...

So my ex-boss is leaving HK with a low-key bar drop-in for her farewell do this Friday. She's fairly laid-back, was at my wedding. Sounds casual, right?

Well, she's friends with my current boss (for whom I'm working part-time), & also a potential future boss (have spoken about possible vacancies over the phone but have not yet met), who will both also be there. Oh, & other colleagues/ acquaintances from my soon-to-be-ex workplace (ex-boss works at the same centre where I'm currently wrapping up my contract) will likely also be dropping in at some point (don't know when).

What on earth do I wear?! I don't want to be too stodgy at a bar, but at the same time I also don't want to give the wrong impression to a potential employer. I was thinking of perhaps wearing my satin cargo pants, but with what? I do also need to be somewhat practical (possibility of both rain & high humidity, plus uphill urban walking)...

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

Stagiaire Fash on "Etsy jewelry advice please"

My niece’s college graduation is coming up soon, and she is accepted to a Master’s program in engineering. I want to get her a shattered glass necklace.
I got the idea from uncommon goods, which has this one https://www.uncommongoods.com/.....g-necklace

That price seems steep, so I went to Etsy to browse for others, found that there are many there, from over $100 down to this one https://www.etsy.com/listing/9.....ch_click=1

Both have good ratings; the negative comments on the Etsy site are about a different item being larger than expected. But I feel nervous giving her a necklace for the price of a Starbucks tab. I won’t be able to look at it before giving it, as I plan to have it sent directly to her (alternate plan would be to send several to my parents, who will see her, and have Mom pick one, but A. That’s work for mom and B. I generally prefer not yo have her involved in my affairs.

Have you seen one of these necklaces, or do you have experience with shops that sell them?

I’m thinking presentation might make a difference here, but isn’t everything. I picked this one for her a month ago, but it is sold out now. https://www.etsy.com/listing/4.....ng_details

March 8
Last 4 pix (also in comments) are latest round of alterations. What do you think?
*********
*********

Three new pictures. I took it to be altered. I think it is better, but might want the welt taken in another inch or two, so the jacket blouses a little. What do y’all think, please & thank you?

**********************************************************************

Thought I was Christmas shopping for family, but look at these!
Seriously trying to decide if I want one. They are made of remnant fabric, so each one unique. They are a little warmer than my red puffer, but not as stiff/bulky as my leather jackets.
The blue one is a little bigger, but I like them both. Both have room for a thicker top or big sleeves underneath. They both have black fake fur inside the collar/near my face. I can buy one spontaneously, but not both. They are too similar to get both anyway.

Am i “im Kaufrausch” (my logic clouded by the intoxication of shopping) or do I want one for real?

PS. The photos are all mixed up. For simplicity, lets refer to them as the pink one & the blue one (even though reality is more complicated).

Also, the last three pictures are my current pink and blue outerwear. The colors are very similar.

Canadian friends, has anyone purchased Joe Fresh activewear (specifically pants) and are they any good? I realized I am down to a single pair of leggings that are in decent shape, and need to add a pair in relatively short order. I may just duplicate my current Gap ones, which I love, but given sales and convenience for try-ons (and the fact that they do have the odd gem), I wondered if it would be worth trying a JF pair. Plmk thanks!

ETA - I had marked this urgent as I was going to be at Joe Fresh, but it's not time-sensitive any more ... but still appreciate any feedback anyone cares to share Thank you all! xx

Hi all! In prepping my closet for spring I’ve been trying on all my jeans (I confess to wearing mostly leggings all winter). A couple months ago I noticed a hole in my jeans capsule and purchased a pair of Levi’s high rise Wedgie jeans on super sale at TJMaxx (pic #1). I like them a lot in theory, but I don’t think I like them on me. I think they’re a size too big, and the button fly only emphasizes that. I also think they’re too casual/tomboy, and that I feel better in more feminine jeans styles. So back to the drawing board. I realized I don’t feel very current after years of skinny jeans and want something a little trendier. Of the spring denim trends Angie shared, I like:

High rise

Cuffed hem

Wide crop

Sailor waist

Cropped flare

I have high rise wide leg black jeans and high rise white cropped jeans with split hem (pics 2 & 3). Not pictured are a pair of light wash mid rise wide leg cutoff Levi’s from the 90s (not a perfect fit, but $1 at a yard sale so they work for now) and a pair of high rise cropped dark wash skinny Levi’s. Those are my “classics” so I’d like to add one updated pair. I usually cuff the Levi’s I have, so the cuffed hem trend might be covered. Wide crop is covered by the black pair. I like sailor a lot, but I might save that for when I can try on in stores because it seems trickiest. That leaves cropped flares.

Current contender: the Veronica Beard jeans (pics 4 & 5). Kick crops work well for me; if they’re not the right length I don’t mind cutting them shorter. The pockets seem fun and different from what I already have. But I’m curious what you all think: go for cropped flares, or do you suggest a different denim trend? If you like the flares, do you like this pair? And has anyone tried Veronica Beard denim? Thanks all!

...if you wear them frequently. Everyday sneakers, that is, not workout shoes. I bought a couple pair of casual sneakers a bit before covid first hit and have worn them a fair bit given the way life went, and they’re starting to feel less supportive. I’ve probably worn each 1-2 times a week, maybe a bit more, for about a year. So that’d be ~100 wears each; no clue about mileage which is what I loosely track for my running shoes.

Actually I'm taking a little coffee break, to rest and mull over the items below I tried on earlier.
I want to add fitted checked trousers to my fw wardrobe and a red sweater (preferably cropped, but the right shade of red is hard enough to find as it is already!). Red sweater to be worn with brown tweed trousers, anthracite and the checked trousers too. Preferably layerable underneath my new oversized blazer which has a red stripe in it (pic 2).
As I'm forever moving between crisp and moody colors, I'm unsure. The first pants here are b/w, so quite sharp, as is the bright red sweater. The second pair are mybeloved uniqlo ezy's, now in a lovely purple and grey plaid, but the thicker fabric doesn't look very nice to me at the crotch point. Also, with the picture I'm veering towards the higher contrast b/w... they could be worn right away with white loafers too...
What do you think?
