Hats are my jam! They are my favourite accessory bar none, and I’ve got a bit of a collection going on. Whilst perusing the fashion week street styles, I saw a lot of open weave crochet beanies in the Copenhagen street style pics - and now I have the ‘wantsies’!

Alas, I don’t crochet - else I’d make one for myself - and a crochet bag too!

Has anyone come across these at retail?

Obviously the YouTube algorithm has got me sorted, because this popped up in my feed today, as I was sipping coffee, browsing videos, and generally procrastinating productivity.

I won’t give any spoilers, except for this: if you ever wanted to crash Fashion Week, here are some useful tips.

It’s sunny and warm outside, but cold in the airport! I was glad I tucked the pashmina in my tote. DH and I will board our plane in about an hour for a red-eye to London, where, if the forecast is to be believed, it will be raining! LOL!

WIW: wide leg pants with a part elastic waist (at the back), and stretch blazer - like a sweater, but more refined. Just a charcoal T-shirt underneath. Also, warm socks, and sneakers with extra cushioning inserts.

We are hanging out near our gate, and I’m people watching. Flights are being called for Paris, Copenhagen, Dublin, etc. and though there are the ubiquitous yoga outfits, I’m seeing more stylish outfits than the last time we were at the airport. Wide leg trousers (long and cropped), some midi dresses in dark colours, fluid fit jackets, scarves wrapped euro style around the neck, a lot of black, tan, and a dark, cool brown, a little bit of dark green. Not seeing a lot of jeans. Short jackets in denim and leather.

So many varieties of sneakers! Some boots, oxfords, sneakers. I’m surprised by how many people are wearing Birkenstocks with bare feet!

Men in slim fitting trousers, some with cargo pockets on the side. Hoodies, vests, suit jackets, and leather jackets. A few rogues in shorts! Lots of ball caps. Not much else in hats - men or women.

Fingers crossed I got my packing right! At the last minute (after checking the forecast) I switched out some darker elements for lighter/colourful (red!) ones.

Angie on "Got the Aquatalia Selini Boots! (Pics)"

At 30% off, I pounced on the "pearl" version of the Aquatalia Selini high shaft bootie. And they were still not cheap!

Is Aquatalia cheaper in Canada? Their prices have gone up in the US.

That said, cream and white shoes are wardrobe essentials for my style. I will wear them all the time - with everything! And they are weatherproof for Seattle rain. Good, that!

They are PERFECT for my low volume, narrow feet and ankles. Neat and tidy, polished, refined, super soft, on the dressier side, versatile, and with my favourite snip-toe (which is a pointy square-toe). Very comfy even with still healing fractured baby toe. I sized up half a size to get more length in the toes. I have LONG toes that need room :)

I love the shape of the heel. It comes in, but it's still quite blocky. Feels fresh for my style! I'm surprised I can wear heels this high. I usually need a less high low heel.

The Aquatalia's are made in Italy. These are the third pair of shoes I've bought this year that are made in Italy and working well for these high maintenance feet of mine. Shoes made in Portugal, Austria and Brazil seem to work well too. Something about their last works for the shape of my feet. I'm making a mental note.

Popped them on to test with my very casual WFH outfit of cream cords and cashmere jumper.

In case they might work for you too! xo

So the fashion houses are doing video shows now.
The Prada one is the first one with Raf Simons & Miuccia. The vibe is very different. Reviews are mixed.
I’m not sure of the models holding many of the overcoats etc with their hands, can’t see the flow of the clothing
I do like the cape like raincoats
And all the candy colored shoes, though in the kitten heels, I wonder how it is to really walk in them. The very plus yellow carpet doesn’t quite show their stability

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RCQxPSNzU2Q

ETA Angie, lots of white, especially white bags

I have to admit the polka dot hole turtlenecks under the holed sweaters reminds me of Charlie Brown’s ghost costume.

I have worn my previous black one most days for several years, except for last summer, when I wore a non expandable light blue/gray one. It is looking a little battered after all that wear, but mostly in the corners in the very bottom and on the inside. I constantly put very heavy items in it, so I don't begrudge it the wear.

I love the red. My face is smiling. Now I need to decide whether I am comfortable bringing the attention to my wide frame with a bright red bag. I hadn't thought about it before. I'll put my items in it later and decide.

Despite identical construction, the inside of the red bag is not red, it is a yellowy tan to my eye, although the stitching is red. As a result, it looks less finished. However, due to the lighter color, I think it will be easier for me to locate my items inside.

Negatives I knew going in, no key ring attachment and my phone falls out of the pocket into the bag.

Pros, very light weight, strong, holds too much.

I'm back at work after being on maternity leave for 20 weeks. And, I'm finding that I am not getting the joy I once did out of putting together outfits. While on leave I barely left the house (not counting during the holidays) as the weather was terrible and it was more comfortable to be at home with an infant. I wore nice leggings and nursing tunics and it was boring but functional and decent-looking, and I barely thought about it.

A little context: I changed jobs and now work at a large tech company and my particular area is probably a good 85 to 90% men...CASUAL men. Very, very casual men, and lots of them. Like, when women who are wearing something interesting pass in the hallway there is a meeting-of-the-eyes+virtual fist bump because we are unicorns. I have had explicit discussions with some of the guys on my team (now my former team) because in the first weeks on the job I wore what I typically wear to work and they were BLOWN AWAY by how "nice I looked". (For the record here, I was wearing a pair of J. Crew cropped flare trousers and a thin knit in the same color - navy - and a pair of navy suede flat boots with gold necklace and studs, really simple, business casual). And they impressed on me that I should continue to dress in whatever way I was comfortable and that they respected that I was someone who liked to look nice, and that they liked having someone on the team who dressed up. So that's all fine and well, but it DOES take some joy out of the process for me knowing that I'll be swimming against the proverbial current just by wearing my clothes, particularly being new on the team. I don't mind being one order of magnitude dressier. But I was like...3 orders above my peers and it really did feel weird!

Like how you would feel if you wore a ballgown to the grocery store; it's fine. If you want to you should. But at some point a reasonably modest person would look at that situation and adjust down. This is what I mean by pickle juice. We are cucumbers in pickle juice, and we cannot help but be effected by our surroundings eventually. It just seeps into us and absolutely affects our default feelings about things. We are social animals and part of the joy that comes with looking a certain way comes from how we look RELATES to our surroundings.

I got pregnant after 2 months at my new job, and then I wore jeans and maternity tops mostly. Some dresses. It was summer and I did adjust down but it didn't feel permanent because it was maternity-wear.

And now...I've changed jobs again, 1 week after coming back from leave. I'm still at my same company and still in the same area, more or less. Same culture of casual dressing, but a new-to-me team. I'm trying to strike a balance between casual but stylish/interesting/fun (for me) outfits, but I find it boring to put together iterations of jeans/tees/cardigans/sneakers every day, and when I get to work I still feel a overdressed! I vacillate between bored and unhappy with how I look every day. I'm also slightly chubbier than I should be to fit into my clothes well, but I expect that to be temporary.

Keep in mind that I am also very tired as I have 2 small children at home and my husband and I are both commuting 1 hour each way to work (although I do work from my bus), and I also ideally walk about a mile to my bus stop. So I definitely am not feeling like wearing anything remotely uncomfortable, which certainly plays into my lack of joy.

So, here's my food for thought question - how can I get comfortable and be proud of my choices? I'm not even clear of what I should be wearing to feel like myself! I don't mind being a bit stand-outtish, but it doesn't serve me to be the one everyone raises their eyebrows at.

There is soooo much un-relatable and ugly stuff coming down the runway - much more than usual. I didn't bother documenting any of it. I did though, like I usually do, document looks that I think are important and more relatable. Here's the board:

https://www.pinterest.com/youl.....pirations/

I digressed from my point ....

My point is that I'm seeing bright sour turquoise coming down the runway. Not a lot, but it's there. It's been ten years! AT LAST. Another one of my favourite colours. Hope it filters through to retail this season. I will finally be able to add it to my wardrobe.

It's not nearly diverse enough - and I shouldn't need to draw attention to runway diversity because fashion should just be diverse.
But it's a start, and better than where fashion was even three years ago. So I'm highlighting it in summary form since most don't follow the shows:

I'm working through the Fall & Winter 2017 shows as prep work for my trend report that comes out in Sept. You can see the directional looks I'm pinning along the way. It's a LOT of work, and I've only just started:

https://www.pinterest.com/youl.....nter-2017/

But some of the trends are crystal clear - although it will take a while (years) - for the newer ones to filter through to mainstream (and only some of them will). Here are the tidbits:

TALL boots (knee-high)

Dresses and skirts (worn with tall boots)

Pant suits

Full length trousers (lots of floor grazing pants)

Maximalism

Absence of Athleisure

Modern Retro

Mid-Section belting

Sneakers

I feel on track with two new pairs of tall boots in my wardrobe - one casual and one dressy. One ink blue (bought in London last year), and one black (bought at the NAS last month). See Finds.

REMEMBER: Things do not change overnight. It takes years for runway trends to have an impact on the rest of the world. Fashion fads do not exist. Trends last between 5 to 15 years. Some even longer. Some vibes never go out of style, but a current version of the look is important. Vintage items work - but only with a good dose of Modern.

I saw this trend report and remembered Angie's post about boots and her stone slouchy pair from Italy and I was happy that she kept them this is the first time I see a trend report on these boots (this year), has anybody else seen other reports? The one trend I'm not too thrilled about is the oversized bags, how about you?

http://themuse.jezebel.com/dri.....1762425452

"Belgian visionary Dries van Noten always has a strong point of view, one accompanied by perfect tailoring and architectural takes on power dressing. Today at Paris Fashion Week, his collection invoked old money and yachting clubs viewed through a murderous lens—very Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, if its sequel were The Great, Immortal, Bloodsucking Gatsby....

"It’s an aspirational statement about how the women will rise up and exact vengeance on exclusionary men and then steal their country club suits and pair them with contrasting patterns. Suck it, institution."

Oh I do love the broad interpretations of fashion collections
