Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Your thoughts on a Chico's jacket

Am I crazy to be attracted to this jacket?!

I saw it in the window and had to get a closer look. It's not denim but light weight and washable with jean jacket styling. Would it work for smart casual if altered to be more fitted (the size 0 fit in the shoulders but was rather big and boxy)? It seemed more cropped on me that the photo indicates. Is it too shiny; too old lady? The color matches my hair. I'm interested in your honest opinions so don't be afraid to tell me that you could only see your grandmother in this jacket.

I don't think it's intrinsically too old lady - it would depend how you wear it. Could we see an outfit picture?

I haven't bought it yet, still thinking about it especially as it would need alterations. I'm not sure I like it with the white shirt as shown. I'd probably pair it with a Sweet Pea top or tank and jeans. In the store it was paired with brown and cream prints.

I can see why you were attracted to it; I would love to see that shiny silver with your gorgeous hair! I don't think it's too old, or too old-lady, but the boxiness that you mentioned does concern me. Do you think your tailor could get it more fitted for you? It doesn't look as boxy as most Chico's jackets are in the photo, so maybe...

I like the jacket, and I don't think it's too old looking. My mom shops a lot at Chico's, and their sizes are pretty big, so I imagine the alterations would have to be pretty extensive. Maybe you could find something similar that you wouldn't have to alter that much.

Joy, I also wanted to say, since I was away at the time - you look stunning in your pictures. So glad you were able to post them, and what a great inspiration for everyone.

Thank you all for your comments. I'm thinking the alterations may be too extensive and that I should look at NAS first to find something else fab, but I keep thinking about that jacket. Are metallics fairly classic or have they been so overdone this past year that they will be dated by next summer?

I've been seeing metallics for years, so I would consider them a classic.

I didn't see anything at NAS that was like that at all. Why not buy it, keep the receipt, and take it to your tailor to find out how much it would cost and if it could be done? If you don't like the answer, you can always return it. No harm, no foul!
