YLF: What Have You Done To Me:)

Hi Everyone!

I have always been very particular...but this morning I had to change my tights (twice) because my black opaques weren't "opaque" enough! Of course poor hubby couldn't see the difference, but I, through my fresh YLF eyes, could.

And what's more I'm still not convinced these are black enough!! Lol

Today's outfit not particularly exciting, a pretty standard work combo (with the aforementioned black opaques!)

I LOVE that broach! Very clever! Where did you get it, or did you make it yourself?

(BTW, in the photo, at least, the tights pass muster!)

I am new to YLF but already I am becoming much more aware of details, particularly details to do with fit and body type flattery. I'm realizing that deep Vs are no longer my friend (since weight loss) and that flared skirts that once looked good on my curvier shape no longer suit me as well. (Some flared skirts are fine, but some just leave me looking lost.)

I know that as fall arrives I'm going to be looking at my clothes with a much more critical eye. Critical in a good way.

I'd love to hear the secrets that others have picked up!

One of the biggest things for me has been defining my style and having to put it into words. It really made me think about what I love and why I love it.

And Angie's post on getting our of a style rut was a real 'aha' moment for me too. When I go shopping now I ask myself does this fit with my petite, golden, preppy/boho/beachy/boaty/equestrian, colour mixing, causal vibe? (I couldn't keep to Angie's 5 words!) Sometimes the answer surprises me.

And I adore all the photos. I find them really inspirational - so many great ideas of how to wear things.

I've learnt so much.

But I want to buy clothes even more than I did before.

And handbags! Never used to care too much about them. Suddenly the right bag for the right outfit has become VERY important.

Deborah, I layer 2 pairs of opaque tights to get the right "opaqueness".
Footwear was the biggest change for me. I did not realize before how it can change the whole outfit! No wonder I had to replace 70% of my footwear collection for the last year...

Deborah, I love the brooch! I vaguely remember seeing something about accessories made out of zippers once before. It might have been SKM... or Sal with a zipper necklace? Anyway, I've not seen one anywhere else - very cool.

As far as the YLF factor: I now have about 5 denim jackets because I get too particular about the proportions of jacket:skirt, or jacket:skinnies, or jacket:flares, or . . . . And I bet there are more, but that's the one that drives even me batty

Deborah, you'll find that not only are you more particular about the details, but also that HOURS will mysteriously slip away while you are sitting at your computer! YLF does that to you.

Love your outfit and the brooch is adorable. I like Sara's suggestion of patterned tights, too, if you are looking to change it up a bit. I bought the first pair that she linked to at NAS and am eagerly awaiting the cooler weather.

Sveta, thanks for the tip! I often put sheer stockings under some of my open weave pattered tights but never thought to layer the opaques.. genius.

Debora, lol I spend sooooo much time on my ipad on YLF, and being so portable I can pop in any time... in fact Im (supposed) to be preparing dinner now and getting ready to go out for an evening meeting, but what am I doing?!?

You look great, Deborah, and well done with the tights - Angie and Aida both have a wonderful eye for detail and for explaining why something works or doesn't. Another yay for patterned tights - I think they'd be lovely on you.

YLF has introduced me to, among other things, the power of accessories - bags and shoes, as mentioned above, the importance of proportions and lengths, and the impact of contrasting textures and weights, such as a fitted jacket with a blousy top, or 'tough' boots with a 'tender' dress etc. The list could go on, I am sure :).

So good to have you on the forum, Deborah, and I do hope to meet you at Melbourne meet-up some time soon :).

You look wonderful!

It makes me smile to imagine all the YLF'rs around the world getting ready in the morning and suddenly noticing that a "certain something" must be amended before leaving the house. I'm sure we must have a shared glint of determination sparkle in our eyes as we try to find clever ways to make the outfit work. It then makes me giggle to imagine what must be a nearly a universal perplexed expression on all the YLF'rs partners and children as they try to grasp what on earth has happened to their wife/partner/mother!

I must also say I'm impressed that you managed to get Master 8 to take TWO photos - mine usually is a one-shot shooter!

Love the look and I do agree it is amazing how YLF can get into your thoughts. I think about bags all of the time now. I'm not sure if it is good that I live in Northern Canada where there is such crummy shopping or not. I am consantly thinkning anoint what all I need on my shopping list for the next time I'm in a bigger city centre!

Count me as one who has experiences so many changes since YLF - all of them positive! The biggest for me is learning my body shape and how to dress it - I'm still experimenting and learning what works and what doesn't. And, I'm having a blast re-discovering my own sense of style!

The dress is amazing on you and I love the waist cinching obi belt. I would love to see it with a pop of color, maybe a bright scarf, jacket, shoes, belt? I love the idea of patterned tights to break up the head to toe black.

In terms of YLF influence so far...my biggest thing is PPL. I find myself double checking my pant lengths much more often and now I'm even noticing it on other people.

Love the brooch, very cool. I do know what you mean. I think I have a more critical eye now since YLF, mostly with shoes, overall fit and PPL. I think it makes such a difference when we know our body types. I have noticed I get less frustrated in the stores now because I know what items to not even take in the dressing room. Outfit looks great, I think a colorful scarf as suggested is a grerat idea!!!
