WTW for a wedding

Help! Suggestions please. I am a young 49, hourglass shape and gravitate to a feminine, modern and classic aesthetic. I also love a pop of color and prints. We have an upcoming wedding that will take place at 5:00pm on a Friday in Pasadena, CA. It will be held outdoors in a public garden and dinner to follow. FYI our friend/groom is 52, his second wedding. They have given no guidance as to the dress code. Any rules, guidelines for the type of wedding and setting is greatly appreciated!

I have this very old, but apparently back in style, lace midi skirt. Was wondering if this might work, just unsure what style of top to put with it.

Hmm, will dinner be at a restaurant afterward? Will you need to do a lot of walking between ceremony and dinner, from parking to ceremony, etc.? Probably cocktail attire is good, but you could always shoot them a message to double-check. As for footwear, you might think about a flat sandal or chunkier heel, in case you're walking on grass in the public garden or between venues. If you wear the skirt above, perhaps a black camisole and a white button-down blouse over it, tied in a knot at the waist?

I second Jennifer on wedges or flats for a public garden. You may have to walk on soft sod. If the garden is in a windy or full sun area, it could be something to consider...a wrap, a sun hat.
Since the skirt is full, a fitted top seems the way to go. A boxy cropped top could work if the waist of the skirt is high.

A very fitted, nipped-waist jacket--white, maybe, or a pretty color--would add some structure to that soft skirt, without detracting from the feminine feel of the lace.

I'm going to suggest a dress, possibly something in a print and a scuba knit. I agree about the shoes, as anything with thin heals would sink right into the grass. This Vince Camuto sheath dress looks very nice and something that I'd wear to a wedding. It's also on sale!

Wedge shoes/sandals are a must - good point about walking/grass, etc.

Tulle I will see if the colorful floral jacket I have works - good suggestion.

Linda - I love the dress both in color and style/shape, however, I am trying to avoid purchasing anything this time around and make due with what I have.
