I'm going to be such a wet blanket, Claudia - my apologies. I did not like the J. Crew Fall 2013 collection as a whole :(. Maximal and not their usual fresh and crisp look that I gravitate towards. But I can understand how others might prefer it, and I know that some of my clients will love it!

I much preferred J. Crew's Spring 2013 show (although the lookbook that just came out was indeed bland). But I did pin a few looks from the Fall 2013 collection that I thought were fab

Wow. My inner bohemian loves all this embellishment! Not sure how it will work in the real world, but it is definitely fun to look at. I've wanted an embellished coat/topper for years, and now I'm thinking this might be the year.

I'm with Angie on this - I don't really love patchwork or really busy pattern styles at all - too much boho/baroque or whatever for me. I guess I'm much more team minimalist/classic than I thought. While several of the items are beautifully designed - and there are some pretty colors - they are just not for me.

It's definitely a departure from, and for me so much more interesting and complex, than their usual straight up preppy fare.

I'd love some of these pieces in my closet.

Oh, thanks for more photos! It is such a departure from the usual J.Crew, it will be really interesting to see if this direction sells well for them and how their usual customer base responds. If Angie's reaction is any indication, they may have a problem, but I really like many of these pieces myself.

I guess I can appreciate the bold, spunky over-the-top-ness on others. It might grow on me, not sure. I like the tweeds, having a soft spot for posh/eclectic/British/classic.

Some of the pics reminded me of portraits of Frida Kahlo for some reason. There was some otherworldly, retro quality to the lighting and staging of the photography.

I do love some of the pieces but like others I appreciate more of a minimal look. Too much stuff going on isn't really in my own personal style. I hope to transcend time with my wardrobe, aka some pieces able to last at least 5 years without looking dated. I think some of these items will look dated pretty quickly but I appreciate the artistic aspect they are trying to achieve.

Hmmm, what to think of this? I like some of the looks, but I'm also on Team Simple, not Adorned, so I guess I'll have to let these looks grow on me. I liked some of the patterns, and the colors are wonderful! Some of the mixes reminds me of Kaffe Fassett.

Holy cow. I'd never have guessed this was J. Crew. Much too maximal for me but fun to look at.

I too wonder about the reaction from J. Crew's usual fan base. I also wonder if I should go ahead and buy the plain navy schoolboy blazer on my list if this is the direction they're heading in!

The luxury-texture lover in me is all over this. If I could get away with wearing velvet and brocade everyday I would, but since that look is seldom in, my closet is full of sensible cottons and plain tees. Really hope this is a trend with traction because I think it's gorgeous!

I would not do the "full meal deal" here but I think the collection is wonderful looking. I had to look twice to verify it was J. crew not a more premium designer. Interesting to see the pieces in the bricks and mortar once they come in and if they look that great close up.

You know I have a simple, clean style but these are very alluring looks to me. Maybe because many of the colours would be flattering on me. The Spring style book was filled with shades that make me look "poorly".

If you look at some of the modeled outfits, especially those partially cut off in the linked slide-show that Molly posted, there are some of the typical J.Crew, unfussy, minimalist pieces and ensembles. I could easily see mixing these more ornate and busy pieces with the minimalist ones, which is the only way I'd wear them.

Beth, good to see you posting again. I knew this would surprise you and not be your cup of tea.

Mia, I totally agree with your take on this. And those that appreciated the rich colors and textures.

You know, these looks are mostly not my cup of tea because I'm not talented enough to figure out how to wear them. Minimal style is easier for me, seeing as I don't have a drop of creativity. I do enjoy seeing it on others, though!

Gorgeous! Like eye candy. I don't have to want to wear this stuff to appreciate it. There is something Ralph Lauren-esque about the street photo you posted mid-way down Claudia. I'm loving that silhouette and the high necklines in general.
