so we discovered last night that our water heater is leaking.... there goes my new shoe budget ;-/ so i'ts time to get out the sewing machine and start making alterations and reconsidering what's already in my closet...

I have these shoes that I wear as casual jeans shoes

As I was out for a run today I pondered the idea of cutting out the cross over things...

so for instance could I wear them with something like this dress? (I'm just holding the dress up, that's why it is just kindof hanging)

don't hum and haw-- just tell me flat out if this would be a no-go? I will blame all of you if I wear this out in public and look like a LOL (little old lady)

Now I must be off to the Y for a shower and then to Home Depot to look at water heaters.

Umm...I'm thinking no? They look a little gear-ish to me. Then again, I'm not a fan of these kind of shoes, so that might be my personal preference talking.

Sorry Kim, I'm not a fan. You can find an inexpensive pair of ballet flats that will be comfy and look a lot better!

no need to apologize-- I just thought I'd ask. sometimes things that we think are not great others see differently.
you're right- I can find inexpensive ballet flats, but ballet flats are not typically the most comfort friendly shoes for me. I actually decided it was warm enough for sandals today so I'm wearing that dress with gold gladiator type sandals. nothing spectacular, but it will get me through the day

Hrm, assuming that you can still walk fine without the straps, I think cutting them off would be a big improvement. New, good, comfy flats might be the ideal, but these could make do in the mean time. I don't like the straps at all, personally.

I don't mind them with a dress, either as is or without the straps. But gear shoes with a dress are kind of popular around here, so my eyes are used to it.

I don't think I"ll be wearing these shoes with dresses. they are a comfy sneaker alternative with jeans, but I do think I can do better with dresses.

True, you can do better but I don't think you'd be hauled in if you wore them in the meantime. Water heaters are expensive!

I think those shoes without the straps would work, but I have a feeling you have better options in your closet. Your gold sandals sound fantastic!

It's just not going to be sandals weather every day, so I'm wanting a second option. I wore this dress today with silver flats and was surprised how well it worked. (I know I said earlier that I wore the gold sandals... I went' through a few evolutions of my outfit today

I would personally wear them but would be selective about where. I wouldn't wear it for formal clients. More casual or even smart casual if everything else is dressed up.

oh, I was only talking about wearing them to the grocery store or something like that. not for anything remotely important.

I don't see why you can't wear them with jeans running errands and such. I have a similar pair that I will wear for errands when I'm doing tons of walking. I have bad feet and need something practical sometimes.

I still say it would be fine to wear the shoes in the picture but it wouldn't be perfect. But some days being perfect isn't the number one priority.

I wouldn't cut the straps if it were just to wear with dresses. But do it if you like the look and it doesn't interfere with the functionality of the shoe.

I do think they look a bit gearish for a dress. But as other have mentioned, sometimes you just gotta be comfy
