Working out a travel capsule - YouLookFab Forum

I am going to another conference and am putting together yet another travel capsule that would take up little room and perhaps might fit in a carry-on. The weather is going to be cold (20-35F) so I am planning on wearing a coat; my preference is for this Miss Sixty coat that I bought at NAS because it is warm and has a hood. Because of the longer coat, I feel like it would not be a good idea to wear my usual conference uniform of bootcut dress pants and bootcut jeans so I started building a wardrobe around skirts and skinnies. The trouble is that lately I've been having fussy feet issues (I think I am developing a bunion) so I have to be careful about picking out boots and shoes to take.

The grey boots (2-3) are super-comfortable and would work with skirts (and I will add tights, of course). They are a perfect fit around the calf so I don't think it would be good to tuck skinnies into these boots - the boots might stretch. Would these oxfords (Born Arletta, super-soft) be OK with skinnies? Is the overall look with oxfords very casual? I am also not sure about PPL (are these skinnies too long?) but I have another pair of skinnies that is slightly shorter. Wearing jeans in general is pretty standard for our conferences so typically I would wear bootcut jeans with any type of heeled shoes or even clogs and they would be perfectly normal.

Anyway, just trying to decide whether this is a good strategy. The other possibility is to wear bootcut pants over the grey boots but I am not sure this will work.

Nice coat! GREAT boots! And super outfits! I actually like the oxfords with the skinnies on you, especially in photo 4. Given that you can wear jeans, I don't think the look is too casual.

The skinnies may be a bit long, perhaps. So maybe bring your shorter ones. Sometimes you can just turn them under by hand (without even sewing) or use fabric tape to hold at the place you would like them, so that's another option.

agree with suz abt the length of the skinnies. the bloots look great with the skirt. seems very comfy for a conference.

I love those looks! The extra length on the skinnies doesn't both me, but YMMV. And I think the gray boots would also look great with bootcuts.

I would love to see a closer look at the print in that fab top in #5!

These are all great! The extra length on the skinnies doesn't bother me at all and I think the oxfords are adorable and perfect for the dress-code that you describe. I will be interested to hear if you got everything into a carry-on. I have never been able to do that and so have great admiration for those that do!

Marley, I too am curious whether I can fit everything in. My problem is that also have a laptop and a bunch of brochures so I am not 100% sure what I will be able to bring as a carry-on.

That looks like a great travel capsule, Makrame. You can always squeeze in another scarf or two to change up looks when you're traveling.
