WIWs: more variations on a theme

For some reason I've gotten more shy about posting these. Well, a few reasons...one is that I always look basically the same, just in different colors. I'm not calling it a rut, because this is my favorite dressing season. The other reasons are murky. Hmmm.

Scarves are still my favorite winter outfit boost, but I rarely see others wearing them anymore. Not here in WIWs or IRL either. I don't care about being trendy, but I hope I'm not flat out dated. Thinking hard, I'm not sure I care, since I still love them and have no plans to stop wearing them yet. But also, when I do see the rare scarf pic, I think the more common way is wrapped all around the neck, and for me I still like the vertical ends better...I don't like a pile of stuff around my neck. So I may be doubley dated, wearing a passé trend in a passé way. I still like them.

Anyway, here are some recent days.

1) Old scarf, new sweater...I was so happy to see the colors being an exact match.
2) My NAS HEWI scarf, grey leopard.
3 and 4) Not scarf! Watermelon Tourmaline, made by my jeweler friend
5 and 6) Another not scarf, just layered necklaces...ooo trendy.
7 and 8) Another old scarf, new sweater happy match
9 and 10) New sweater I bought, scarf was a gift. And my little joke, it's not a hashtag it's a sharp sign!

11) The blood moon scarf from Shadowplay NYC. I love these space prints!

Thanks for looking! Feeling all shy again, the pics will probably be removed when the thread is done. But one thing I'm happy about...I think my hair is recovering from the horrible allergy incident. I think you can tell me if you feel the scarf look is dated, but I might not listen!

I'm not sure why you're shy. These all look very nice. I hope scarves aren't out, because I like to wear them too! I love the necklace in #3. It's lovely. I thought the sharp sign was a pound sign!

Wow! You have such a gorgeous sweater collection and scarf collection! I love all of these. You have really nailed down your style and your style needs, I am so impressed( I have read of your struggles regarding footwear and waistbands). Your hair is looking great, too!
I have severe color envy right now.

Why shy, you look great love the scarfs I can't wear them with my short neck love the necklaces so unusual and beautiful colors in all your tops. I don't know what's in or out but you know what I say if you find something you love wear it if it works for you do trends really Matter?

Your scarves and sweaters are indeed happy matches. You look beautiful. I prefer the ends of a scarf this way too. I have a small face so a scarf can quickly overwhelm me and look odd.

I think you have a terrific uniform here ... the variations of colors, scarves and necklaces keeps it from being boring or repetitive ... I am sure you are the only one who notices you are wearing "the same thing"!

As to the scarves, I think yours are really nice, and they are more voluminous, which to me looks up to date. I think scarves in general are pretty classic and not "out" at all. I agree that a lot of people seem to wear them infinity-style, but I don't think your knots look dated.

I personally love wearing scarves but don't in the winter because I need to wear a proper outerwear scarf leaving the house, and that's just too many scarves Mine will all come back out in the spring; in fact, I just bought a new one the other day!

I feel much the same, Peri. Your formulas and mine are very similar (except for the scarves!).

In fact, the other day, I realized I've completely forgotten how to wear regular length tops and other pant styles instead of tunics and skinnies. But if it works, why struggle? You look wonderful, and your scarves help to change things up visually.

Nice! I love the scarves. I need to start wearing more of them. if they're outdated, we'll be outdated together;-). That's an awesome batch of sweaters you have too. Awfully glad you didn't include finds!

Love the blood moon scarf. Post away, most of us have a favorite formula so we are, in effect, wearing the same thing.

I like your scarves and the way you wear them. But: Be Still My Beating Heart! I love your jewelry, especially the tourmaline. It is gorgeous and suits you very well.

I wear scarves a lot and I prefer them hanging or in a low knot unless it is really cold. I don't have the neck for wrapping them around, and for the same reason I don't like to wear turtlenecks anymore.

I just bought a new scarf yesterday, and in a color I never would have picked until I let my hair grow out to its natural color.

I like lightweight scarves in the summer too, especially when traveling. If it weren't for them I'm sure I'd have skin cancer on the back of my neck.

I think your formula is consistently elegant. Many style icons (particularly the French ones) stick to their own style, incorporating only the trends that suit them. Teaching at the piano is an even better reason to dress simply on the bottom, with the "party on the top." You're creating a vibrant, polished presence for your students, without drawing undue attention to your "fashion sense." Your hands are free, and your face is framed with beautiful color and lovely scarves and necklaces.

I'm also wearing scarves this winter. I wear my lightweight ones, like those you show here, particularly on my "errand runs." I wrap them close round my throat (gotta protect "la voce") when outdoors, and loosen then indoors, so I don't overheat. I added one to my collection, and would have liked another.

Thank you for posting your outfits. There is so much inspiration here. I will be pulling out scarves for the rest of the week. I wear them regularly. today's scarf was a gift from DS who bought it on the banks of a river in Cambodia for the weaver.

Well, I'd say you have a winning formula going on. The soft sweaters in beautiful, vivid colors look stunning on you, and your artful accessorizing makes the looks unique. I love your scarves and jewelry. The HEWI leopard scarf is just amazing on you. I appreciate the "sharp" necklace, too!

I think you look amazing! Loving those colours on you and I am a scarf lover and I don't think they every date. They are one of those items that can so easily elevate an outfit.

I just wanted to say that I love the fuchsia outfit on you, and that scarves are never dated in my book.
I think there was a trend to wrap scarves around the neck and that's died down a bit. I think you can wear your scarf however you want now and still be stylish.

I prefer wearing scarves over necklaces . I think because the scarf is very visible, and the only way to get the same punch with jewelry is to wear very large pieces, which I find overwhelm me.

Love these all! No need to shy, I do also prefer to wear my scarfs long, with some vertical ending I find wearing them so it's elongating and more flattering to my frame:-).

I always wear scarves in this season but they are more part of my outdoor wardrobe. Even if you always stick to the same silhouette that works for you, you have great colors so it doesn't come off as too repetitive.

Thank you all so much for your kind words! I did plan to keep wearing my scarves anyway because I just love the boost of prints and colors and something soft and drapey, but it's nice to hear they aren't terribly dated even if no longer trendy. It gets too hot here to wear them except about November through March...and this year even less than that..I guess I never get time to get tired of them. Luckily, as you know, I have a massive jewelry collection too, so that comes out for most of the year.

For the "shyness", it isn't really about worrying what you all will say. This is the kindest place ever. I think I've just become privacy concerned again. When I joined I thought I would never post pictures, but eventually I realized how much help I needed and that I couldn't get it without pictures. So once I got posting, I became more comfortable with the whole pictures online thing since I felt so comfy here. I think the point those worries started coming back was when someone said on another post that she had been a member for 4 years so she could see our pictures, but that thread was her first post. It startled me (yes, I know it shouldn't have, I'm naive), the idea that there are multitudes more looking than I actually "know". I'm quite comfortable with all of you here who feel like friends, but I'm a bit less comfortable with idea of who knows how many unknowns are out there! Okay, that's the long version of my renewed shyness. It explains why I've been posting fewer pictures and how long it took me to decide to post these. I will have to work through it, but I welcome any thoughts on the subject!

I think you have a great oufit formula and look good in all your pics. I wear lots of scarves as well. If you look at my outfit posts you'll see plenty of scarves in the winter months and even some lighter weight ones in the summer. I don't particularly like wearing lots of layers so a scarf adds that bit of extra color or pattern that a topper would for others.

I love seeing these because they are so totally you! I love your uniform --sweater, trousers, scarf-- and you use such rich color! I kind of feel like your neutral-and-denim cousin; I'm in a scarf most days, too. I think scarves are really totally classic (well, maybe at the height of 90s minimalism they were too too) but sizes, shapes, and colors change over time. Your collection --and the easy way you wear them-- looks entirely current to me. Great outfits!

Peri - you look absolutely beautiful!! It's not you, it's casual america. I am sure every woman IRL who sees you feels like a frump. You look polished and elegant and she feels like she hasn't made an effort. Don't confuse common with style. YLF is an unusual place because everyone enjoys style and looking authentically good. Go into a supermarket and the style quotient is not high. You look amazing, I just wish you felt as wonderful, polished and chic as you look!! You go girl! Scarves are TDF fabulous as are your outfit!! Please don't change unless they don't make you happy!!

I'm not sure where you live, but scarves are still being worn regularly in my community. I see people wearing them every day, and I wear them too. You have a lovely collection of both scarves and sweater. Enjoy and wear them with confidence, you look fab!

Thank you everyone! I like the reassurance that they aren't dated, even if I would have kept wearing them anyway! Maybe they are just not the trend, but in a way that is just fine for my age, life and image. Anyway, they make me happy and I started wondering if a way to be happier with my summer clothes is to look for more creative prints in tops. I wonder if that is part of my summer dressing boredom...missing the prints and intense color combos of the scarves, and not just the extra layering effect. Hmmm. (well I promise to stay away from the Hawaiian shirts!)

Angie, I like graceful glam! Cool words. I might add them to my Easy word. So funny you remember my shoes. They do have to left out of the glam description, although they keep me walking and dancing so that feels pretty graceful!
