WIW&B: Inspired by GoldenPig, blush ensembles, and denim dresses

Today's shopping trip had several inspirations, most of which are outside my past comfort zone(s):
1) bronze ecco sandals I bought in early April
2) goldenpig's lemon motif items; thanks goldenpig
3) recent blush ensembles all over YLF
4) denim summer dress I've been casually seeking
5) a desire for some summer purses totally unlike my usual

Off I went to Macy's along with a bunch of other errands. I was really happy with my haul, would like some inputs/feedback dear YLF ladies Be honest, I can take it. (everything was on sale)

- WIW; white top, red tote from last year, denim rolled skinny jeans, bronze sandals. Summer arrived today! Feeling patriotic colors as we approach US Memorial Day weekend.
Pic #1 - outfit

- two really fun bags, brought them home to see if they will work with multiple outfits.
Pic #2 - blue tote (the find is a light gold)
Find - lemon crossbody; I don't normally like bags with separate outer pockets like this but the tote bag option was a bit too big.

- Blush sleeveless embellished top (gathers at back waist) and grey capris/crops...shown in two diff lengths since they are adjustable. Which length is best? Is the top a little too long?
#3 and 4

-Denim dress with lace/embroidery on upper back. The back is a little longer than the front. My old voice would have said my thighs are not slim enough for a dress this shape. What do you think?

#4 and 5 with the bronze sandals
#6 with my old brown sofft gladiators and the lemon bag

These are awesome! My most favorite is the dress. It looks killer on you! Next fave are the capris. I'd probably pull the drawstrings about halfway between the two lengths, but any which way looks fine to me. Nice shopping success!

I like both bags. Make sure they work with outfits, and if so, by all means keep and enjoy. Summery.

The blush top is a good fit in front. Make sure it's also good in the back, as I think the angle of your body is making it pull and cling in the pic.

The grey crops and denim dress look like really good fits in these pics. Nicely done. I'm loving the dress on you. WOW. It's Killer. Fun back crochet detail. And your thighs look FABULOUS in this frock. Rock on.

I think the denim dress is a great choice - great fit, and the pockets near the shoulders are a good design detail. I can't see the embroidery, but I bet some interest at the back of your shoulders is lovely.

Angie yes I will absolutely check out the bags with outfits. Learning to do that...and will check out the fit of the top in back as you suggest. On the dress and the top...I'm a little surprised how much I'm liking tone-on-tone embellishment these days. I don't generally like "girly" but I guess I do like just a little as long as it's not high contrast.

BrieN - good idea on putting the blue bag with the outfit I wore today. I like it with the metallic sandals as you said. That's the first indication that the bag will go with my wardrobe :-).

Also, just a thought but I would like to see the red bag with the denim dress... I wonder if the brown sandals would pick up some of the brown on the bottom of the purse.

The dress looks wonderful on you. Easy outfit for the summer. The dress doesn't show your thighs (not that you have anything to worry about because the first photo with the jeans silhouettes shapely legs).

I also like the first outfit. Red purse with metallic sandals look great together. You've inspired me to try that soon.

The lemon bag looks fun, but if the outside pocket is not your thing, then keep looking for another lemon winner.

The dress is A1!

I like the pants at the shorter length. Good haul all around. The outfit in #1 is cu-ute!

Oh and the metallic sandals are such big winners too!

Oh wow, Chris...what a great haul! Your new bags are fab, love the sandals too. Your whole outfit in #1 is K worthy. The denim dress gets a big thumbs up...fit and length are great. I'm with Carter, I think the pants in #3 would be nice (with a bit of ruching) taking the length to a little in between where you have it now. Blush top is good too. I rather like the length of it.

Isn't the lemons bag fun!!

Great finds, love the dress and the gold sandals. I'm not sure about the color of the blush top but can't see it very well. The bags look great too, especially the blue one.

Once I brought these home, I used Angie's advice from her "citron pants" capsule posting to carefully assess whether they would earn spots in my wardrobe. Bear with me, this is long, but it was really helpful to me to write it all down as I was thinking it through. Also I'm getting faster at doing this, which make me happy

The Lemon purse: It only went with green, yellow, brown and white. Making it work with any other colors seemed contrived. I have only a few green items, and nothing in yellow, so it failed the "multiple outfits" test. I don't love it enough to buy things in those colors. Also upon closer inspection the canvas fabric (including the bottom) is white and looks rather flimsy. (hard to believe it was originally $120) This will get dirty in a heartbeat and be hard to clean. Also as AJ noticed I already said I wasn't crazy about this purse style. So I will return it and keep my eyes open for some other lemony-thing.

Blush top: I liked the idea of adding a blush item to my wardrobe, but this top didn't quite meet my fit/style goals. A lot of the detail draws the eye downward instead of upward which works better on me. A little bit of a sleeve is proportionally much better on me than sleeveless and I have some sleeveless tops already. Also I decided the embellishment is just too much and it's too wide at the bottom. So it's going back.

The grey cargos: these are good. I can build several outfits with black tops, black sandals, blue or white tops and bronze sandals. The fit is good although need to take the waist in a bit in back (as always). The re is one minor issue - there are buttons on the back pocket flaps that stick out quite a bit and catch on tops, not to mention putting emphasis on my derriere. :-). They are attached with metal studs. I found some direction for removing them. http://sewing.about.com/librar.....a0903a.htm
I was already thinking of removing the pocket flap to streamline the look. I may just cut out those buttons and do a small patch.

The denim dress is a yes in all ways. . This dress works with the red bag and brown sandals as stated above. Also with the new blue bagIand bronze sandals for a slightly dressier look. And with black heeled sandals and white clutch it's even dressier. Lots of choices! The fit seems to be just right.

Blue bag: goes with SO much in my closet! Works with the denim dress and a whole bunch of other stuff. I had a feeling a light blue bag would work. Love the simple shape/style, it's a good size, and it has a zipper closure but I'll probably just keep it open

#7 is my favorite! The dress looks amazing and love the lemon purse! I'm sad you're not keeping the lemon purse! Maybe you can find another one. There's a bunch on eBay!
