WIW...an inspiring chop...and less inspiring duds...

I have definitely hit the late summer dressing slump around here. It's ok, though, because I can already smell fall around the corner (and then I'll be pining for summer). Yesterday I finally took the scissors to my very first pair of premium denim from many years ago. I haven't been able to toss them since the quality is still so great. Problem is that they are not quite skinny so boot tucking is a problem, but they are a titch too short so I can really only push them onto a slouchy boot. Yesterday problem solved! I hacked for the first time! I am LOVING them now! Perfect length for our current weather of about 22 degrees. I have another pair of Hudson crops of a similar length which I love, but they have a prominent back pocket. These TRs don't have a pocket flap so I'll get tons of use out of these for the next month.

So here goes, just keeping myself accountable....
1/2 - TR cutoffs - white Old Navy Tank, SE cruz slip ons, Vince cashmere
3/4 - In the spirit of Angie's post on workout capsules (http://youlookfab.com/2014/08/.....t-capsule/) here's a new look to my workout capsule - I added a crop sweatshirt. Thank goodness it was only $20 b/c I don't love it (maybe b/c of the neckline?) - but it's fun to throw over a tank in warmer weather. #3 is just for wearing around the house/walking the dog, #4 is my post workout wear...
#5/6 - Orange BCBG open weave sweater, hudson white shorts, BCHardToTell sandals. I have worn this sweater maybe 3 times in a year and a half. I don't love it and can't figure out why. Haven't donated it since it's one of those things that I feel like I just bought...Hmm. Help me out. Keep or toss? Or maybe just give it another year....?
7 - Another gear day....Zella hoodie over tank, Costco crops, Nike runners
8 - JCrew linen pullover, Nicole Bridger pantaloon shorts, Camper sandals. LOVE this outfit.
9 - Gap T, Hudson black shorts, Ugg slipons. HATE this outfit (and my face here - haha). Just posting b/c it's real life...but I think I won't be repeating this any time soon.

Jackie, as usual you are nailing the west coast casual chic look ... Jennifer would be proud!! Love the shorts ... the length is really cute and there is nothing better than denim with a white top. Looks great!

And I would like your kitchen too.

The open weave orange sweater looks great on you, and I know you have worn that color before. It works with your skin and hair so beautifully and gives off this positive, juicy, sort of happy energy. I wonder why you don't love it? It looks like the sleeves are super long -- does that bother you? If you really don't love it, I would say to let it go. Although, given the fact that you practically need another house for your jeans collection, I know that letting it go might not come easily.

WOW. Your workout looks are soooo chic. You have an innate Chic and Polish about you. It's completely natural and effortless.

The orange sweater looks awfully long at the back, plus the V-neck elongates the line even further. It's all too long on top - in addition to your long neck. I vote back on the donate pile. Colour is smashing on you though.

And #8 are best baggy shorts on the planet. You look absolutely sensational. xo

I love what you did to those jeans! I had a pair like that early in the summer, but a slightly snarky comment DH made about them (and me in them) made me self conscious enough to go home and cut them off to be worn as regular shorts. I SO wish now I hadn't done it- but I wasn't sure about styling them at that point. You've nailed it!

I also really like the cropped sweatshirt -over- tank look. Great idea for cooler evening walks etc. And the orange sweater? It's a funny cut, isn't it? From the front , all is fine, but from the back, it looks too big for you. The sleeves are really long too, no? But the colour on you is great - which is probably what keeps you trying to wear it.

I'd be so nervous to cut off premium denim, but this turned out fabulously! It's great with the crisp white.

Coming back to add that although I am not a fan of orange, that sweater looks great on you. Maybe you just need some styling inspiration to get it out of the closet more? Pinterest copycats perhaps?

I agree the last look isn't a winner. Funny how you just know.

Holy cow woman! You look amazing. I love the chopped jeans--good call on that. I think you can wear a high neckline like the one on your cropped sweatshirt because you have a long neck. It probably works best when your hair is tied back, like it is here. The orange is a great color on you, but Angie has spoken! I love the baggy shorts outfit too! You do volume really well.

Great hack job! But you wear shorter shorts equally well - #8 is gorgeous, no wonder you love it! I like the orange sweater on you but it seems to long for the outfit here. although there is nothing really wrong with #9 I can see why it you felt it doesn't measure up to your usual standards of fabness. Finally, your workout outfits are terrific!

Love, love, love the chopped jeans on you! You are effortlessly chic and casual. BUT my absolute favorite outfit is 8, with the baggy black shorts and charcoal sweatshirt. That outfit was made for you.

Love the orange color on you, but I also agree with Angie: the sweater is too long.

Fainting here! Jackie, you are just so beautiful and stylish. No matter what you are wearing, it looks elegant and effortless. Where is my fuchsia crash helmet?? Like Viva, I just want to STEAL #8 right off your back. But I'm pretty smitten with the workout wear, too, and #1 is fantastic! That was a superb decision to chop the jeans. Great length and fantastic hi-low outfit.

I really like the grey cropped sweatshirt, by the way. I do see what you mean about the neckline. One of my Zara sweaters is like that. I love the sweater and wear it anyway, but the crew is just slightly too high on me or hits in slightly the wrong spot or maybe is a bit wide...I'm not completely sure. Ordinarily a crew neck is a slam dunk for me (and I imagine also for you, esp. with hair back or up) but they do vary in quality I guess. I would say this might "settle" a bit as you wear it and in the meantime, what a super cute look for gear!

You might rescue the "too long" by using the semi-tuck. I do it alot because I have a long neck and a long torso as well. I LOVE what the semi tuck does for me! Give it a shot, you might be surprised, and you'll lose nothing if it doesn't work.

Sa-weet! Love the mix of pics from fab to everyday normal throwing something on---keeps you human (though you just may be a goddess trying a disguise!) You really are just naturally chic.

Let Mr. Orange go. Not fab enough for a goddess!

PS. I, too, love the cropped sweatshirt and wonder what it would look like over a dress that ends above the knee--or some other column of colour with flare.

Great job with shortening your jeans - I love the new length and the wash. Shorts outfit is fantastic, no wonder you love it. Great workout outfits as well. What I see in the last one is that the tee has a lot of fabric under the arms, I guess it's too wide and the fabric pools up there, creating downward pulling big folds.

#8! I had a pair of shorts like that in the 90s and loved them sooo much - and they were so balancing for an IT shape. I LOVE that outfit so much. And you look lovely in the others too.

The hack job look super! Perfectly fitting long shorts, easy and cheap (well, not counting intial purchase price I suppose!). Gah, all you gals who post such great workout gear (esp. #3) make me feel very sheepish about not updating mine. There's just so many pretty things I want more I like all the day-to-day casual outfits too, but particularly #8 with the JCrew top I was there to see ^^ It is SUCH a fabulous transitional/dark summer outfit.

Soooo I know everyone said that the orange sweater is too long... but that is precisely what I like about it. The too-long sleeves are fun for fall, and in summer I'd just push them up. I like the pairing of slimmer bottoms with it, too and I think it'd be particularly good with either shorter shorts or long skinnies with scrunch. Actually that sweater reminds me of the giant cream one I got at the JCrew, but on a smaller (and shorter) scale.
