  1. I got this fab polka-dot blouse at the thrift store on Saturday, but when I put the outfit together for the weekend (with inspiration from Style Pantry: http://stylepantry.com/2011/03.....axi-skirt/ ) I wasn't all that happy with it. Turns out all it needed was the fuschia flower pin from Ann Taylor Loft!

White button-down blouse with red dots: Vintage thrifted
    Cobalt blue pencil skirt: Halogen
    Red blazer: H&M
Wide red croc belt with gold buckle: Thrifted
    Fuschia flower pin: AT Loft
Gold chain necklace: Vintage 80s from back in the day
    Blue pumps: Madden Girl
    Blue bag: B Makowsky

The next look is something I've been working on for weeks! I tore the DKNY ad out of a magazine at the hair salon because I thought I could make this look work with Marley's pink Gap jacket from the swap. I found the actual DKNY skirt online, but it was $395 and even though I love it, I wasn't about to pay that much for a mini! I thought I was going to have to make do with my plain tan Halogen pencil skirt when I found this beauty on the clearance rack at Old Navy for $8.49! I'm also totally tickled that I found a scarf on eBay that's a darn close twin to the pricey DKNY scarf. Oh, and if you go to http://www.dkny.com and watch the video introduction, you'll see the model is wearing red ankle-strap shoes!

Pink corduroy jacket: Gap via swap
    Tan ruffled skirt: Old Navy
    Red button-down shirt: H&M
    Scarf: Vintage via eBay
    Red clutch: Thrifted
Red ankle-strap shoes: Nine West ca. 1998
Black ribbon belt: From a dress long gone

I know this is wildly age-inappropriate but I had a total blast putting it together! And I wore it to meet forum member Becky for dinner this evening! But that's another post...

  2. Can I just say I love your take on the DKNY outfit.

  3. Love both of these! Your first inspiration picture is so FAB, and you did a great job with both the outfits. So is this the cadet blue skirt? Is it more cobalt?

  4. Dying over that DKNY interpretation - so spot-on! And your waist looks tiny in #2. Way to show us that "Runway to Real Way" is possible!

  5. WOW! You are such an inspiration! You look like a model in outfit #1. I love that outfit #2 is more risky, the color choices are less traditional, the items... it looks so fun and not age inappropriate at all.

  6. Aw, shucks! Thanks, ladies!

Una, this isn't the seamed skirt. It's the Halogen Ponte Knit Pencil Skirt in "deep blue:" http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ha.....sultback=0.

  7. LOVE! These are both fantastic. Your DKNY look is AWEsome, well done (*swoon*)!! I'm totally stopping by H&M tomorrow in hopes of getting that fab blazer.

UPDATE: Tried to go to H&M, thought for sure there was one in Bellevue. But it's only in Seattle. Probably have to find another red blazer ><

  8. I can take no more!!! super fab :)

  9. I especially like #1, altho I'd love to see you try adding the 'fro next time ; )

  10. I love the colors in both of these looks--so springy and now, and you are obviously having a blast! I admire your fearlessness and willingness to have fun and constantly evolve. It's wonderful.

  11. OMG.... they are both PERFECT. You are looking so long and lean in both outfits.

  12. Mary, Grand Slam x 2! I don't know how you do it, honestly! What fab ensembles--love them both!

  13. You are so cute and clever I can't stand it.

KILLER x2. And and A+++++ for positive fun attitude.

  14. The thrifted polka dot blouse---what a find! I love!

    You look incredible, MK.

And my jaw hit the ground when I read the "DKNY" skirt was from the clearance rack in Old Navy! WHAT?! YLF.

    Take a bow (I'm clapping).

p.s. Hope your Wednesday ended on a better note.

  15. What great finds on the blouse and skirt!!! You look fabulous in both!

  16. Bumping for Marley because it's her pink jacket! :)

  17. Shut UP! You've got to be kidding me! You are NOT going to believe this, but I have that VERY-SAME-O.N.-SKIRT! Seriously. And if you can wear it, so can I, can't I? However, that pink jacket looks a HUNdred times better on you than it ever did on me. I'm glad that you got it. Love it with the red. Also, love the 1st outfit with the red and blue. You rock!

  18. OMG, Marley! That's hilarious! I love this skirt so much it was really hard to keep from getting it in black, too, but I resisted. More shots of this outfit here: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....with-becky . I'll leave it to you to decide whether either one of us has any business leaving the house in that skirt! LOL

And the pink jacket is going to work with me tomorrow, so stay tuned!

Oh, and yesterday a colleague said I looked like I should be leading tours at Disneyland in the r/w/b outfit. I took it as a compliment! :)

  19. I think we definitely have the personality required to wear that skirt out of the house, don't we?????? I've worn mine several times - with pleasure - although I'm very much aware that it may be considered age-inappropriate - but, it just makes me happy, so I wear it anyway!
BTW - love those pics of you and Becky. Very cute!

  20. Yes, we definitely have the right personality.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!!

  21. You look super fab and fun, great combinations! And you have awesome legs for skirts.
