WIW: To knot or not?

I love the color of this cropped (in back) cascading cardi and would like to wear it in a dressier way. Does it work, and if so, which way? I'm not loving it without the knot in the photo, but it looks better in the mirror. ??? Also found these plaid tights which are the only green ones I own.

First photo is of the infamous cropped sweater over the sheath dress, per Angie's suggestion.

I love the sweater over the sheath dress Una. And I much prefer the sweater unknotted. i do think I would prefer patterned black tights to the green plaid. It seems to St. Patrick's to me.

FTR, I haven't commented but I have loved each and every iteration of the cropped sweater! And I want to see a view of the cutout elbows!!

I prefer the sweater unknotted, too. That's a fab color on you! And I'm not really feeling the green tights, either. My issue is the green-black-green-black thing. Do you have any green shoes to go with the green tights? That would probably work for me. Otherwise I agree with the patterned black tights.

I love that green color on you and the card looks good especially unknotted. Not crazy about the green tights.

I like the green tights but like others said not with the green sweater.

my observations:
1. knotted definitely makes it more casual feel, so no.
2. unknotted seems to have too much fabric up front
3. how about belting it?
4. green tights with green dress seems too matchy. purple tights? (purple is opposite of green)
5. last, but not least, you look fab in that dress..and the green is divine on you!

Not surprisingly, I love the cropped sweater with the sheath dress. What shoes would you pair it with? Your black booties?

The green is a great color on you, and if I peer very closely I can see that maybe it looks better tied in person than it first appears in the photo. However, it seems a little big on you when it's untied.

I think the green tights are great, but a little too matchymatchy with the green sweater.

I like that cropped sweater A LOT no matter which way you wear it. If I were to wear the green cardi open, I would belt it since it seems a bit too voluminous.

Thanks all. The problem with belting is that it is cropped in back and so a belt will only contain the front of the sweater. Is that okay? Sort of like the half-tucked look, perhaps? I thought about a belt under the sweater, just for some waist def. All these flowy cardis seem voluminous by nature. This one is quite fitted in the shoulders.

I am so rarely matchy-matchy! My brain was off with finding these tights and thinking I needed to get some use out of them....

I think belting it is a great idea...I like it loose as well..knotted looks a little too 80's for me. I think black tights would look better than the green..it is a 'matchy-matchy' look...you will look more sophisticated in black! It will make that pretty cardi stand out more also!

I like the cropped sweater in 1; I actually like the green sweater both ways, but without the tights. However, as I am on Team Patterned Tights (there is really no such team, but if there were, I would be on it) I would wear those tights with some other outfit, maybe one that was all black, or black with charcoal.

That cropped cardi has looked great in all of your outfits. And that green is definitely your color. Can I be the odd one out and say that the green cardi with the green pattern tights is a bit much? I'd love to see it with a complimentary color or belted or something..

(I'm a complete tights novice, and my eye still hasn't adjusted to the look of un-basic tights, so take this with a grain of salt)

Love the purple sweater with the sheath dress -- best so far!

I think I prefer the green one knotted although, as someone else mentioned, this might be too casual. Belted sounds better to me... loose makes you look much wider than I know you are.

I like the green cardi tied better. Love the tights!

Una, a possible alternative to knotting: E on Academichic recently pinned the corners of a cascading (I think) sweater together and then slipped it on like a cocoon sweater. Could that work? maybe instead of pinning the corners you could try AJ's trick of using a hair elastic.

ETA: Hmmm, forgot that it's cropped in back. Might not work in that case.

Love the cropped sweater over the sheath! I think knotted would work with black tights instead of green; get the whole look chic, with the knot being a slightly informal aspect. Unknotted looks good as well, and probably looks better in the mirror because you can see its movement; I'd prefer this with different hose as well, maybe a textured black here.
