WIW-Thrifted chevron skirt

I've worn this thrifted BR skirt for hot weather for a couple of years but am wondering if the pattern not matching up at the sides is a no no. Keep or toss? Also, should I be wearing shape wear? I usually pair it with a shorter black top but it's in the laundry,

When I used to make my own clothing, eons ago, I was a bear about pattern matching. But this skirt isn't off a half inch in a sloppy way, it radically doesn't match. I think that's okay but wouldn't wear it for business or anywhere you wanted to be known for wearing quality clothing.

I'm wearing it shopping today but will look for a replacement, depending on Forum opinion. It makes a wrinkle-free, almost no weight or space item for a summer travel capsule.

It's so strange that they matched the chevron pattern in the front, but not on the side. I would definitely look for a replacement.

Joy, normally I am very fussy about these things, but in this case, I think the skirt looks so super on you that it just does not bother me a bit. I really love your expressions in your photos, too, by the way. You crack me up.

I seem to recall that you have been wanting a skirt this shape (it is similar to my blue print skirt, although mine is not a summer skirt). I actually think this type of skirt is best of all in the warmer months, and if it were mine (and looked so great) it would be a wardrobe workhorse. Unless it's in dreadful shape, I'd keep it for summer casual wear.

I love the shape and colors of the skirt. The chevron pattern is lovely. Normally the seam pattern not matching would bother me but I think it looks fine. I bet this looks amazing with a denim or cream colored jacket! I would opt for a "slightly" longer top but that is just my personal preference.

I like it! I typically like things to be symmetrical, but this doesn't bother me at all. I ordered this Chevron skirt (in navy) from Old Navy online, but it hasn't arrived yet so I can't vouch for its quality or style in person: http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/.....#038;vid=1

Chevrons are notoriously hard to match up on both ends as width of stripes and slope of cut make all the difference, so most manufacturers will opt for front and back over sides, given a choice.

So, even though like Vildy, I'm usually a bear about patterns not matching at seams, I think in this case you can definitely ignore it for casual to smart casual outfits --- especially as it doesn't look like a 'miss'.

The skirt looks great on you, Joy --- no need for shapewear and suchlike either.

I'm so happy to get a thumbs up on this skirt. I always get lots of compliments on it.
I'll wear it casually.
Suz, I'd intended to blur out some of those facial expressions. I also like this type of skirt best in the warmer months. It's opaque enough not to need a slip, so cooler than shorts.
Kimana, I like the navy Old Navy skirt that you ordered. Please give us a report when it arrives. It sounds like a good fabric blend.
Meredith, I'll experiment with top length. The top I'm wearing is actually longer but I've folded and scrunched it up. It looks great with a white denim jacket but that was too warm today. It's also fun for pattern mixing with a scarf.

I love the skirt, and don't mind the mismatched side hems one bit! If it mismatched in the front, that might be a different story.

I think it looks great, but I love chevron stripes. If you think you may be close to done with it, then by all means donate. But I would suggest holding on to it until you find something else you like, unless it's starting to pill or wear thin in spots. .

Joy I think this looks good. Being mismatched at the sides doesn't worry me as it almost looks intentional and I think with movement it's not a big deal. It's a nice skirt and looks good on you. I would keep.

Thank you for your comments. The skirt is still in great shape for at least another season and the chevron pattern is something I'm drawn to. It seems more figure forgiving than wide horizontal stripes on a skirt. I'm so glad that it gets approval. It is polyester (thinking of Angie's blog topic today) but the shape keeps it airy enough. It can be rolled and stuck in a corner of a suitcase and come out wrinkle-free.
