WIW This Week: Bright and Happy, Iffy Fits.

I'm noticing as I look back over the week that I've been much more attentive to color than to fit when shopping. (I really, really love color, and sometimes find fit tricky with a narrow hourglass figure-- I'm not surprised that I've made this trade-off, although I'm much pickier about finding both now).

1/2) I LOVE the color of this cardigan. I tried it with charcoal slacks that are a little big, but the shape of the cardi doesn't go as well with "slouchy" trousers as last week's argyle pullover did. (Pendant from etsy).
3/4) This was my favorite silhouette of the week. I tried a little pattern mixing, and was really happy with the scarf/shirt combo. This shirt is one of my favorites to put with other colors/patterns (I find that easier with monochromatic patterns).
5/6) I liked it, but would put an edgier necklace with it next time. Even with the fun lace-up boots, it felt a little more prim/dressy that I was going for.
7) I'm noticing how non-tailored my blazers are (again, I think this is a slim&busty problem), so the outfit was a little meh, but the bright scarf made me happy on a very grey day.
8/9) AGAIN with color trumping fit. This cardi doesn't really bunch over my bust usually (I think the cami underneath was doing something weird), but the sweater is a little short with slacks. But, the owl necklace made me grin.

FIT is about to be my new mantra (heaven help me, though-- I fudge this because my shape feels like a real PITA to fit properly).

Di, your reflections are so interesting.

I agree that #3 is a fab silhouette for you; you look terrific! (And kitty does, too...aren't we lucky to get to see your cat as well as your books as well as your outfits??!)

Love your boots in #5 but agree maybe a different necklace would have given you the look you were after.

And I can see what you mean about the others, too. Although I think you are being awfully hard on yourself.

For jackets, have you tried having them tailored, nipped in along the sides? That might solve your problem there.

Great combination of colors in each shot. Love you in that pink! The jacket could be nipped in but it kind of reminds me of a boyfriend style this way. The necklace in #5 is pretty but sort of small. I really like the necklace in #9. Would that work for the outfit in #5? You are so nice and slim you really look great in all the silhouettes.

Great outfits! You know... if you sharpen up your tailoring you will have a totally different look. Right now you have a definite style persona going on...

Great scarves! Actually, great accessories overall - I like the necklaces too. I agree with Meredith - necklace 9 has more oomph and fun for outfit 5.

I absolutely love the silhouette and colour combo in #5 and well as #3. I'm positively giddy over your owl necklace!

I love the pattern mixing in 3! The long skirt and boots is great too. A different necklace could push it more in the Western/boho direction - so could a different color in the top, I think - maybe a brown turtleneck, with the sleeves pushed up?

I sympathize with the blazer issue! Getting the sides taken in is not a huge deal - I've had it done a few times and she charges $25.

I agree with you about 3/4 - it's my fave, too. What a GREAT look. I love you in the cons/trousers combo. And your idea of a more playful necklace with the midi is a good one.

All in all, though, I'd say you had a really great week!

You look great and I love your style! I sometimes feel I have to choose between color and fit too. Good suggestions to take blazers in if you truly love them, it would be worth it.

Suz: I think of it less as being hard on myself, and more as not wanting to be complacent. But I bet you're right. (Also: it cracks me up that our very, very shy cat really wants his picture to be taken.)

You look lovely in every photo. As far as my favorite, I'm casting my vote for #3-4 as well. The bookending of the boots and blouse is perfection. I also really appreciated the closeup shot of the patterns in #4. I love the subtle pattern mixing.

I totally agree with you on what you say about the others. Taking in the blazer is a great idea. The cardi IS short for pants---you could try putting a thin layer underneath that is longer and not too contrasty.....
