Well summer has arrived here finally!!

On Friday I wore for the first time (except for on our Australian holiday) some new shorts. I love them!! Loose comfortable and the right length on me. At the moment I only really like them with a black top, but I may find alternatives that can work. The abstract floral has an unusual orange/yellow in it as well as a taupe/olive. I think white could cut me in half too much? Never mind I have at least three black tops that work including this workhorse one I wore twice last week as well. I did start the day with a black and white spotted top but after seeing the photo quickly changed - a more tailored fit definitely worked better on me. Excuse the black bra strap peeking out.

Second shot is me today. I have shown all these pieces before. I am still not 100% convinced over myself in white pants, I feel this way is about as good as it gets - long top, heels, bit of sparkle. It does feel like a good colour palette for early summer.

I dropped my 14 year old to go on camp today - black and white water rafting as well as a hike over the Tongariro Crossing. I had to drop him outside school, not allowed to go in and say goodbye LOL.

Aw, you make me long for summer...almost. The second outfit is my favorite but the first looks great for really hot weather. Do you have anything special planned while DS is away at camp?

I usually don't get white pants, but I think the second outfit looks fantastic. I love the way you paired them with the top and camel/cognac (?) shoes and bag. The shorts in the first outfit are fun and I love the shoes! Great casual summer look.

I love your new patterned shorts. The abstract floral design is unique and lovely. They look fabulous paired with the black top and nude shoes. I also adore your outfit with the white cropped pants. The shades in the top are very flattering on you... yes, that might be a fabulous color palette for your warm weather days.

Thanks Joy, it is lovely right now, probably spring temperatures for the mid west (early 20C). We have VIP work visitors this week - I have to host them for a meal - and will be busy supporting everyone while we try and land a deal!!

Thanks Astrid - I struggle with the white pants too - but it is nice to have a pair for occasional wear on a warm day....I have accepted that I will only wear them a couple of ways but I am a happy repeater so that does not worry me.

Cheers El Cee - I am a "spring" so these soft warm pinks are good on me. I like this top because it is not too "saccharine" which is not me at all! Yes I hunted for a while to get the right shorts- being tall so many just make me feel like a whole lot of leg is exposed....I may even get a second pair in a different fabric in the same style because it was a long painful look with some pretty awful WIW last year.

I would try the shorts with white for a change, I think it could work nicely.

You look great in both of these, Sally! That is a lovely pink on you, really pretty with your coloring. And I know what you mean about the sweetness of pink. I recently ordered a blush pink sweater, and I really hope I can find ways to make it a bit less "sweet!" I do love the color!

Thanks Lyn, I have three white/cream tops (one striped) plus a beach cover up, I will experiment.

I always worry that outfits that are light on the top and dark on the bottom cut me in half (and vice versa), it is something I am very conscious of, maybe too much so.

The shorts outfit is really cute. I like the pattern and the volume of the shorts (so many shorts are too short or too fitted or both). Where are they from? The white jeans outfit is elegant. Those colours are great on you.

I'm looking at how fresh and light you look and I'm jealous. It's cold and grey and rainy and miserable here in Texas and I'm Just wishing I could feel my ties again

Brooklyn, They are Charlo, which is part of the Augustine Group. They are highly successful here with an online facebook community that lap up their designs. This is my only piece - both my sisters and others I know have several pieces.

(on sale now). Fairly true to size, I ended up in a 14 as they were slightly longer and better, but I could have worn a 12.

In the summer range they have other colours and patterns too.

Thanks Cynthia - it is funny being seasonally out of sync, I felt like that during our wet winter!!

I should add, given recent forum conversations, that Augustine have a wonderful range across sizes - they have a range called Stella Royal which is worth checking out too.

It is a very colourful patterned range of clothing - not to everyone's taste. But it is heartening to see how well they are doing and how they are doing it - featuring women in a range of sizes and ages modelling their clothes, and also a range of heights so you can see how short/long the dress will be on you.

I also really like your white pants outfit. I have also been working on wearing white pants more this year (having bought my first 2 pairs of white jeans) and I do find they seem to take more work. They aren't FFBOs. But that combo is a great one so go for it!

Thanks Kerlyn - I cross posted with you. I find wearing pink with tan works well to make it not too sweet - it is a flattering colour.

Thank you Anne. For me a bit of a heel or a flattering flat shoe help, and a top at the right length,. I agree, not quite a FFBO for me either.

Thank you Angie, white pants Queen!! I am pleased you like them. I used to have some white wide leg trousers in the perfect weight, that sat flat in my tummy. Oh I would love to recreate them, I loved wearing them with a cork heel wedge sandal and a simple tank top.

How lucky your son is to grow up being able to do these wonderful camping trips!

The things I like most about these looks are the boho elements: bag, top in 2 and shorts in 1. I struggle to wear boho to work, but I really like what you've put together in 2, and think I should do something like that.

Is it the whiteness/preppiness of pants the issue? I like how summery they are. I mean, to me, they look fantastic.

Thanks Smittie- I do like a bit of summer boho:). You could wear these sorts of prints Smittie- they would definitely suit you.

I think with the white pants it is a mix of flattery and preppiness issues.

Re: white pants. You might try to find some with a little bit of embroidery detailing. I have a pair like this and it knocks out the preppy vibe.

Good idea, I would like some white flares, or wide legged pants, but I haven't seen many around, it is all about skinnies or boyfriend styles.

The white pants are fantastic, esp with that top.

The shorts are cute. A white top could be ok. Probably depends on the top.

Thanks Diane, I am enjoying wearing summer clothes - the last couple of months have been frustrating as I have been either mostly wearing winter pieces or summer tops with a layer over the top that does not work.

I struggle with shorts too. I don't like long shorts at all, but I don't like a lot of leg exposed either, as I'm tall as well. I have 2 pairs that I wear when it's hideously hot (like now here), both are more of a tailored cut with pockets and both are low slung...in fact one pair is so low slung that I don't need to unbutton them to take them off..lol..but I manage to keep them on, and they're cotton and so cool.
