WIW: Spring tweed & harem pants

When I saw Angie's ensemble idea today, I was excited to see that I had worn it a day ahead of her post! For St. Patrick's day, I pulled out a super-green outfit, with my green tweed jacket and a green tee underneath.
I'm also adding another St. Patrick's week outfit, featuring a green sweater. Following DonnaF's suggestion, I did wear green each day for a full week preceding St. Patrick's day, but these are the only two outfits I got photos of.
The outfits:

1-3 (worn to work): black harem pants (Eileen Fisher); green tweed boxy jacket (made by me); green scoop-neck long sleeved tee (Caslon); flat black ankle booties (Munro, Lexie).

4-5 (worn to work): dark brown wool copped pants (made by me); landscape print tee with brown sleeves (made by me); dark forest green cashmere shrug (made by me); taupe cutout booties (Kork-Ease, Stina).

Love both outfits! The tweed jacket and harem pants pairing is super creative and the proportions on the second outfit are very flattering. You also look great in that shade of green.

The wool pants are amazing, and look great on you. They look like they drape nicely (the last photo kind of shows that) and I think you chose the perfect length. Very flattering with the light tone booties.

You are also sporting those super harems that Dashielle has. I love those!

Smittie, yes, Dashielle had these harem pants first, and I had to copy her! Thanks for your compliment on the wool pants. I love the fabric, too, and the drape is what I really like about them. I always feel they are bit of a challenge to style, so I appreciate your comment and Tanya's, too.

Lovely. I am coveting your tweed jacket. And the landscape pattern on the second top is beautiful, what a fabric find.

Silly question, is there a lot of freedom of movement in the harems? I have harem leggings, so with less of a dropped crotch, and I was wondering if with yours it felt like you are wearing a tube skirt (e.g a little constrictive) or you can move more freely, like with trousers?

That green tweed jacket is stunning - the fabric looks gorgeous in the photos (your camera captured the luminescence of it brilliantly) and I'm sure it's even nicer in person. And outfit #2 just takes my breath away - head to toe made by you, perfection!

#1 is soooo fun! Some really great volume going on there. And a green tweedy jacket is certainly unexpected -- not just because most of the ones I see are neutrals, but because you also tend to dress more in neutrals! Very fun. Really liking that you did lighter booties with the second look. And that it's a chocolate brown versus black which probably looks nice and rich in person. Longer hair is looking good, too! Are you still planning to go with a shag?

You knocked this ensemble out of the park. The classic tweed jacket with harem pants and those booties is so modern and so unexpected. Do you ever wear the tee in the second outfit with the green tweed jacket? Both outfits are stunning on you.

Secret Squirrel, Lisa, and BJ, the harem pants are very comfy and give a range of movement like trousers. I am much more comfortable in the harem pants than in a tube skirt. The only awkward thing is trying to cross one's legs when sitting in them, and even that can work, just not as comfortably as in a skirt. I don't usually cross my legs in trousers, anyway, since it can add a lot of wrinkles.

Karie and Aida, the green tweed is luminous (good word for it, Karie), and actually quite bright in person, brighter than I would normally choose. There's a story behind it: There is a deep olive thread grounding the weave, which of course appealed to me. Among the thick yarns woven through it is a very bright lime that made me hesitate for a few years before making anything with it (I bought the fabric online, and I didn't realize how prominent that lime would look in person)! It also has teal, black, a light periwinkle, and some off white in it. I think I just needed to find the right not-too-traditional style to make it up in. The welts on the pockets are black faux leather.

Aida and Suz, thanks for the hair compliments. I don't think I'm going for a shag after all, Aida. My hairdresser said I'd need a lot more length to do that, and her idea of a bob is kind of layered or textured anyway, so I think I'm sticking with a medium/longish bob. Tomorrow I'm getting it trimmed. And Suz, a street style photo, huh? That's really nice of you to say!

Brooklyn, "more green" indeed! Makes me think of "more cowbell"--ha ha!

Joy, I'll have to hold up the t-shirt with the jacket and see. I think the colors are different families, though. Thanks for the idea, anyway!

Fantastic outfits, both! I have those harem pants and find them SO comfortable, but rarely wear them out in public as I never know what to pair them with in terms of tops or shoes. You have inspired me. They look amazing with your tweed jacket and so artistic. I am so going to copycat.

For those asking about the long drop crotch, I agree with Sharan on the challenges of crossing ones legs, but I'm trying to train myself out of that (varicose veins) and the pants are a helpful reminder. Also, they are great choices for anyone who loves wearing lightweight long skirts but lives in a windy area.

Aliona, you should definitely try wearing yours out of the house! I was inspired by some styling photos on the Eileen Fisher site for wearing the harem pants, as well as by Dashielle and others here on YLF.

Runs with Scissors, I have a goal of wearing something I've made whenever I am working, since I work at a sewing store. But it's a rare triumph when I've made all pieces.

That green tweed is gorgeous. I'm glad you were able to put the fabric to use!

I really like your taupe booties, as well. The cut of them makes them look almost like t-straps on your feet, but much more interesting and unexpected.
