WIW: Silk Culotte

I wore this to work today. I'm posting it to follow through on my goal to post more frequent WIW's.

In one mirror at our house, I think this top and culotte together emphasize my hips too much. Looking in a different mirror, and now at the pics, I don't know--it's hard to be objective! I usually wear a longer, drapier top with the culotte and wear this top with black pants. But I just wore black crop pants yesterday and it was warm enough today that I wanted something cooler than pants; thus the culotte.

Does the color palette work for me? I don't wear soft pink/blush very often.

I like the A-line shape of the outfit, Windchime. It's dramatic in its own way. Why not! Super cute shoes, and that top in-particualr is fabulous on you. Good drape and neckline. Colours are great on you, and complement your silver hair.

I think this outfit looks great, Windchime. I like the proportions, and it looks summery and sophisticated. Those delicate laces keep it feeling light, too. I do like these colors on you; it seems like a bit of contrast (this is a pretty high contrast stripe) suits you.

Thanks very much, everyone! I belatedly realized I should have asked, "Is this outfit JFE?"

I really appreciate all your comments, especially about the color and silhouette. The mirror that makes me doubt myself is propped at a very slight angle, rather than hung. But oh, what unflattering things that angle does to the reflection of my figure!

Nice to know I can still include soft pink in my closet, too.

Yes, don't worry, it's flattering.
(I understand why you ask, wide bottoms don't elongate the silhouette like slim ones, esp seen static in mirror or picture).

I'm loving the return of fuller skirts, pants and culottes. I think we're just in a place of "readjusting" our silhouettes. I think this look is perfect for a warm day, and I imagine there is nice movement in the silk, which a photo can't capture. The shoes are delicate and lovely!

I think the look is more than JFE just as it is. When I look at the outfit, I think it would also look great tucked -- yes, a real tuck, with a medium to wide dark belt, and then gently "fluffing and blousing" the top. You have a graceful torso, I think it would be very flattering. I half expect that I just made you shudder -- we're all so critical of our midsections -- but I think it would be fab!

I think this is very flattering on you. Mirrors can sometimes play tricks on us - it depends on the tilt or angle of the mirror and the camera too. Sometimes it's more of a funhouse mirror effect than a true image.

These colors work very well for you.

BETH ANN-- Yes, you are absolutely right that the silk culotte has nice movement. And I like that it totalky looks like a skirt when I stand certain ways.

Re your suggestion to tuck and belt, I actually took a pic with the top tucked. I didn't post it here earlier because I didn't think the proportions worked. But your belt idea intrigues me, although I wonder if a belt would slip around on the silk. Hmm...I'm going to try it.

Meanwhile, here's the rejected styling with the top tucked.
