WIW: Leather hat, cowboy boots. Classic.

We took a day trip to a little country, coastal town to stroll and eat some mussels. This outfit was inspired by my new trench/rain jacket. I had outgrown my rain jacket and some how managed to live without a rain jacket for several years. No more. I hunted and hunted for the cut of this jacket but the quality could be better -- but not bad. I tried to add some fun elements with the hat and the cowboy boots. AND... I never wear hats but was inspired by some fabbers. Pretty classic looking (quilted jacket as a layer)...? Right? I did put some pretty funky shades on to up the modern feel.

Black leggings, chambray shirt, cashmere tunic, quilted jacket, trench.

Great hat! Cowboy boots are a foreign concept to this Canadian but they work with this outfit!

That is the best hat. As an Englishwoman I've never been able to pull off cowboy boots, but I admire anyone who can.

Oh yes. Love the eccentric, high-crowned shape of the hat -- it makes the outfit. The boots bookend it perfectly, because they're classic cowboy but not boring, with that little bit of light trim and the broken-in but not broken-down patina.

gauche: I sure do get an education here. I had no idea that this hat was, "eccentric, high-crowned shape." Another item I purchased 20 years ago in NYC. And I have rarely worn it. As you can see, I'm just trying to pull some things out of the closet that I like (a lot) but never made the effort to enjoy . Boots are several years old but thought they were classic (but interesting). Thanks for the endorsement.

AM, I think maybe I'm the one who's "eccentric and high-crowned" here! Not sure anybody else would see your hat that way, but I was trying to articulate its distinctive appeal. I was also going to ask if it was a Soho-era find. Wonder how it would look with yesterday's ostrich wrap.

gauche: Well, not from Soho but from Upper East -Takashimaya (in the garden department). I'm really sorry this store closed but truth be told, I can barely say I've missed it as I'm not someone who heads to NYC for shopping trips. This might have to change as we are a nice train ride (a few short hours) from NYC. I can remember buying it and thinking -- I'm not sure I'll ever wear this. But I love it. You have to know that I'm just not a fashionista but I think I have purchased some things simply because I've loved the design of a piece (just as an object almost). And do you really think I should wear it with the ostrich wrap? Very intrigued.

I love the hat- it's so unique! I'd be curious to what that style is considered...your style sense strikes me as "collected" for lack of better word. I feel like you've lived in many different places and absorbed the local aura and took the best of it with you to the next place.

I really like the outfit on you, AM! I was thinking along the lines of CocoLion, kind of a boho classic vibe. Love, love the quilted jacket with the cowboy boots--a little unexpected twist. And the hat and new jacket are great.

I am literally just pulling out the few pieces that have been rarely worn but I have held on to for years. I wish I could say I had a "collected" look -- since I really enjoy hunting. Firecracker: Your comment, "Boho classic vibe" -- as with CocoLion, makes me feel that you are right about an earlier comment regarding the Ostrich - I may have a wider range and I can feel good about it. Your outfits (and their range) all strike me as creative -- and that is the common glue. I've been looking for some common glue. Thank you. I also really appreciate you saying the quilted jacket with Cowboy boots was an interesting twist. I'm trying...

I really love the outfit you put together. That outfit gives you the country girl look, everything from the hat, jacket and boots goes perfectly together. Was the outfit warm enough with leggings instead of jeans?

Yes, collected -- I see it as evidence of a rich, varied life, what you've gathered from your past juxtaposed with your classic looks and current life. That's a good word.

gauche: Yes, collected is a great word -- thanks to doubleh. And "varied life" is quite correct -- I think looking back there was some richness to the experiences. But life felt like a rough road back then.

AM - re the cowboy boot comment - unless you live in Alberta, cowboy boots aren't really part of the " fashion conversation" here. I don't get them myself, but , I don't ride horses nor live on a ranch I think they are far more prevalent in the US than they are here.

Angie: I definitely went for the quilted jacket as a way to reconcile the preppy persona (per your sage advice). And yes, Equestrian East Coast Preppy. i called it classic probably as a way of taking baby steps. You have a wonderful way of opening people up to previously scary territory. Thank you!
