WIW: hopefully better gear

On yet another hike. Forced DH to take a picture. This time I wore the new Athleta tee recommended here, and I kept the skort pulled up instead of slouched down. I do have a bag tied around my waist squeezing a bit.

I have to confess that all I see here is my still-flabby midsection, but the hike was lovely! Kona enjoyed it too.

I think you look great, and I'm not sure what you mean by flab? Recovery mode is tough. Maybe your inner critic is on overdrive because your legs look a mile long, you have a gorgeous smile, your blue sneakers look sneakers great with the coral top., and I don't think anyone focuses on your stomach. People look at the total picture when they see you, not just your mid-section. I like this particular gear look. It's perfect for a hike, and looks like something I would like to wear myself! Including the bright top, especially during deer hunting season! I hate taking a risk hiking then....

Agree, DH has been able to spot me everywhere in "town"! I guess it's just hard to reconcile myself to never having that 30 year old body and wishing I had appreciated it more then. I suppose it's not too late to apply that same lesson now!

It looks like you might be one of these people who really knows how to get a great gear 'look'. I am not one of these people! There's always something that's off with whatever I'm wearing.

Excellent t shirt! I really wish Athleta would snap to it and come to Canada like a good little store :). Such gorgeous scenery - you are so lucky to live where you do .

Coming to terms with not having the body we once did is the toughest thing - I know it all too well. Not everyone understands it - and it's tough to communicate that without sounding , I don't know , "negative" . I haven't come to terms with it yet either. All I can say is you have a terrific smile , great clothes , and a great family . ( well, at least I hope so - lol) . And I'd give my eye teeth to go for a hike in those woods this summer

Gorgeous color, Una! I'm a big believer in bright outdoor gear --- it makes it easier for my family to stick together!

Well, I think you look great. Those colours are wonderful on you and the scenery is gorgeous. Kona is pretty gorgeous too. I think you are being way too hard on yourself. You look fit and healthy and fab.

Enjoy the hike, for me.
The smell of evergreens, that weird mossy smell.
The *crich* noise of dry needles under boots punctuated by a broken twig.
The sun streaking through the tree branches. When you go a from full sun section to full treed while wearing your awesome sunglasses and you realize you can't see jack squat for a few moments and hope you don't trip over a root.

I think you look fine. I just don't think gear is ever going to look as good as normal clothes. I'm sort of annoyed by that fact but I've also come to terms with it. I don't think I look any better or worse than anyone else I see on the trails with me. The scenery on your hike is gorgeous (I'm waiting for our weather to cool down here to hike again - it's been 100 plus or minus a few degrees for weeks now).

I don't see any flabby midsection. When I spend too much time thinking about not liking how my body looks, I try to focus on appreciating what it can do for me. I have a stepsister who is in a wheelchair and can only walk a few steps though.

Oh, there are both black and grizzly bears here - we make a lot of noise and Kona wears a bell. I am so happy to be back to my outdoor activities and have done 25 miles of hiking in the last week. You all are right - I need to focus on being grateful to live where I do and be able to do what I can.

I'm glad the gear look has improved though!

You're so cute, hiking in a skirt! (I know, skort, but still it's a fun style for hiking. Beats my old baggy pants with zip-off legs.) I love the bright top on you, such a great color. It must be hard trying to get back in shape after surgery. It's good you're able to get out and enjoy hiking.

Here's what I see: I see a gorgeous woman in a bright cheery outfit that looks great on her enjoying some fabulous scenery with her adorable pup.

Do you have a concave abdomen? No, but most people don't. Do you look fat? No! I don't think I would even notice your belly in this except to say that it looks like you look healthy and seem to be making a fabulous recovery and are looking great! It makes me wonder if we are being too harsh on ourselves. I certainly sympathize as this is exactly what is bugging me about myself too. I am so annoyed with my own flabby belly and weight gain. But I wonder if other fabbers are thinking the same thing about me: "What is she talking about--she looks fine!" I wouldn't be thinking about this so much if my clothes weren't reminding me about my weight gain--like the jeans that are getting too snug. Which is why I'm on the hunt for a new pair of jeans. And of course if people didn't keep asking me if I'm pregnant I'd be OK! I need to stop my (literal) navel gazing and worry about things that are really important.

We should go for a hike together someday Una! Your place or mine?

I think this looks great Una - love the bright color, it's probably perfect for keeping the bears away too ;-). It does look so beautiful there - and you with Kona against that gorgeous scenery is wonderful!

Girl you look awesome! And those shoulders are to die for. I have to work hard to have any shoulder line at all! (I'll be glad when shoulder pads rotate back into style ) See, it's all relative. I keep trying to remind myself that I don't punish myself or feel bad because I'm not taller--why should I fret because I'm not smaller? Enjoy your health, your family, your home and realize that although you may not be perfect you are beautiful like you are!
