WIW for a complete schedule fail

This morning, I had the best intentions. I had a family wedding shower to go to, so I got up early enough (on a Saturday!) to leave myself plenty of time to get ready without rushing, picked a nice, tastefully appropriate outfit, and spent an hour on the Metro to get there.

My mom was supposed to meet me at the station so we could ride over together, but she wasn't there. After waiting around for a while, I finally texted her. Which is when I found out that the shower is actually tomorrow, not today.

What makes me feel really silly is that this is for the more religious, Shabbat-observing branch of my family so, if I'd thought about it for more than two seconds, I might have figured out that holding it on a Saturday would make no sense. Or I could've, you know, just looked at the invitation more than once to make sure I had the date right.

Has anyone else completely mixed up dates like this? I can't be the only one capable of this particular type of cluelessness. Can I?

Well, what a nice dress rehearsal for the event! Now you're really prepared!

I am prone to reading invites and instructions too briefly, and trusting my memory too much! At least you showed up a day early, rather than a day late!

Aw man, I hate when that happens. Well the good thing is that you are going to look great tomorrow. Really nice outfit!

Luckily I don't do this very often, but I did it once that had consequences. I had been accepted into grad school various places for a teaching program.

For one of these places in California, I needed to take some kind of California standards test in order to student teach. I had to take it before starting the program. Since I was on the east coast, they only offered it one time within an hour bus ride. I had it on my schedule, I knew I had to go take it on a certain Saturday, bought the bus ticket, and I completely blanked. Realized on Sunday that it was THAT weekend.

Because it would have been such a pain to retake the test and would have involved flying somewhere (and the university was not being helpful at all), it went from my first choice to last choice school, and I went to a different grad program.

Beth Ann, I definitely trust my memory more than I should too! This one was an e-invite, so it was especially easy to look at it once, then forget to check it again to see if I had things right.

Rabbit, it's amazing how easy it can be to blank on something like that even when it's high-stakes, isn't it? And how little things can end up having big consequences. When I was applying to law schools, I thought I had all my applications in a few weeks before the deadlines, then realized right before the deadline that I'd never gotten around to finalizing something for one school. I took care of it, but wound up getting rejected (and it was somewhere I thought I'd had a pretty good chance at), and I always wondered if it's because they couldn't consider my application until the class was almost full. I was happy where I ended up going, but it's fascinating how so much comes down to random things like that.

And I'm definitely looking forward to being able to re-wear this outfit tomorrow instead of doing my usual last-minute scramble!

I've never done this kind of thing, but it is completely within my character to do so! In fact, I'm quite surprised that I haven't done it yet, ha ha.

I could have written Beth Ann's second paragraph So I don't rely on my memory any more. As soon as I receive an invitation I make sure I put the details in my phone - my phone, at least, is "smart".

I am perfectly capable of just this sort of "obvious" error. I hope you just wore the same thing the next day - you look great in that dress.

I've done the same thing. We had reservations for the theater and we went a week early. Naturally, they couldn't find our names on the list. But they fit us into the packed house, somehow, and gave us very good seats, too! Wow! I looked at my calendar and realized what I had done. I apologized to them, and they've been super nice and accommodating ever since. I felt like an idiot, though.

BTW, I love your dress. I love the ombre effect.

A few years ago I showed up a whole day early for a hair appt. I MADE the appt so you think I'd remember when it was! My stylist and I still laugh about that one!

I've done something similar although now I can't remember the details. I use the calendar in my phone to keep track of things these days and rarely have problems anymore.
