WIW : Faux Fur Vest

Hi Ladies,

We drove 2 hours today (Saturday) to visit my sister in law and her family to help plan our Niece's wedding. It was a very casual get together and where we went is quite cold so I decided layering was the best option.

Wearing black skinny jeans, b & w striped long sleeve T layered under green oversized sweater (the color IRL is much brighter).

I wear the black faux fur vest as outwear so added it and the scarf for when were outside. I have mixed feelings about the vest, there are elements I really like but some I don't
It is larger size than I would normally wear but it means I can layer under it.

Anyway your thoughts, suggestions etc are much appreciated.

Adding that scarf is GENIUS, no less. Makes the whole thing shoot up to several levels of funkiness! What is it about the vest you dislike, again? Looks comfy-cozy and very appropriate to me.

Thanks ManidipaM, I think my problem with the vest is it's not the cool funky style that seems to be popular so I think it might look a bit dowdy.

So as a disclaimer I'm not into the big furry vests that have been on trend. That said, I am not a huge fan of this one either, but at the same time it reminds me of a favorite sweatshirt that you wear just to feel comfy and cozy and it scores points for the comfort factor and gets away with a little bit of lack of chic. Every other element of this outfit I adore, btw, and so that helps a lot in allowing for the black vest, which is bookending and echoing all the other black present here, yet not overwhelming because of the brilliant pop of green. (I love that scarf so much! And with the stripes!!!)

I love the color of the sweater, and the peek of striped sleeves, but it is a bit big and bulky. It looks better with the scarf. I'm just used to seeing you in drapier tops.

I'm not loving the vest. You are too gorgeous to be bulkified that way. I love the styling in pic #3 with the stripe underneath, the flowy top and that wonderful scarf. I love your skinnies and the boots too!

I love the stripes with the polka dots. #2 is so fab. I'm not loving the vest. Seems too oversized for its shape.

Okay, I love it all! The dots and stripes together are genius! And I like the vest! I had a real "ah-ha!" moment about fur vests when I saw a Bill Cunningham video on the New York Times in which he described fur vests as "coats without sleeves," which made me look at them differently. I think your fur coat without sleeves is fab!

I don't *dislike* the faux-fur vest; I just like the green top (SUCH a pretty color) with the striped shirt and polka dot blouse so much on their own that I prefer that combination instead.

I love the way it all pulls together in #3! I don't think the vest size is too bulky or unflattering at all. Worn the way you have, it is perfect.

I love the whole outfit. I, too, see the vest as outerwear, and I think it's a great topper for this outfit. I wouldn't try to wear it as indoor-wear. To me, the style (with collar, buttons, and pockets) and shape (a little boxy or swing) make it ideal for the coat-without-sleeves look that MaryK mentions. That sweater and stripes over skinnies--and the boots!--are perfect, and the dotted scarf adds a great polish to the whole look.

Thank you all for weighing g on the vest. Mixed responses and I really appreciate tour thoughts on this. I think I will keep (it's been I'm closet since late last year) and continue to use it as outer wear.

MaryK I also view this as a coat without sleeves. Love to see the Bill Cunningham video.

Denise, thank you! One of my goals has been to add edge so I am so appreciative of your comment.

I also have this vest in cream but in a smaller size. Will have to post it soon and see what you think one that fits a bit better.

I am loving that oversized vest for no reason. Maybe its suiting you or its your styling but it looks great in pic #3

Oh, love the colour combo and stripes with the scarf and that coat witout sleeves. All very very edgy, boots, too!!
