WIW: Crops over bootie attempt w distressing and pattern mixing

It's been a hectic week for me so I fell off the wagon w posting. A bummer bc there were a few outfits worth posting. Ah well.

Angie has been preaching about crops over booties for some years now. I am a late adopter who is not entirely convinced this will look good on me and my first foray didn't do much to bolster my confidence. I thought of this outfit in the night while up w the baby. (New tooth cutting thru. Yay!) Mornings move quick so I didn't have time to fiddle w the components. It's not a great look. How can I improve?

These distressed jeans are one of my few crops. They have a button fly that's hidden. I usually roll them up a few inches in hotter weather.

Moto boots are a newer aquisition. I like them but they look quite clunky here. They ARE motos so I guess that's the point. Do my eyes need to adjust or is the proportion off?

This blouse mixes a dainty floral w an animal print hem. I thought it was flattering but seeing it in a picture makes me question if this blouse is really on my team, rooting for me. I'm no longer sure.....

On the upside no one appeared to stare at me at drop off or while at the store and post office. I was definitely self conscious.

How can I make this better guys? Are there any redeeming pieces to this look?

Bj1111-lol. no headshots today. I forgot. I have to lean back on the bed to include my head in the reflection of my mirror.
It's for the best probably. Not having a great hair day anyway. :p

I like your blouse with its mix of patterns, and the outfit. Because the blouse appears so floaty, though, I might gravitate towards a more lightweight bootie--like one of the sandal style or peep toe booties.

You were up in the night with a baby cutting a new tooth, AND you managed the drop-off, so having clothing on is already a good look. Having clothing on that's yours, that's intended for streetwear, and that's put together? GREAT look!

Seriously, everything looks good. Here's where I think the doubts might be coming from: this kind of ensemble is a JFE look on 99.9% of anyone not paid to display clothing for a living. Wearing and enjoying JFE looks requires some mental adjustment for some of us who've put a lot of effort into figuring out what's most conventionally flattering.

The boots look good with overall proportions, to my eye.

For me personally, I'm not yet comfortable baring lower leg between cropped hem and top of boot. But it looks fine with your distressed jeans, I think? And I have big shoulders (and other things), so I don't think I'll be trying this with skinnies, because I feel like straight legs balance my torso a bit. When I tried on a top somewhat similar to yours, I liked it best with the front tucked in above a belt buckle, to at least vaguely indicate potential presence of a waist. (I don't have one.) I haven't yet posted a picture for review, so that's not a declaration of success or a suggestion.

Lady, I am just not seeing the problem here.

You want ideas? Maybe roll the jeans so they just barely clear the motos. Maybe add a blingy necklace (that is ok for chewing or breaking). If you don't like the floatiness of the top (I really do, and I like the mixed print) then pop on a jacket or sweater with some visual weight --maybe even color?

Gosh I think it looks great. I like how the distressing on the jeans picks up the white on the blouse, I like the floaty blouse with the tougher jeans and boots,
You could try rolling up the legs maybe ?

I'll just echo everyone's comments above and say you look great! The moto boots don't look clunky to me and play very nicely with the floaty top.

I really like the blouse and jeans together. I love that floral and animal print together. I would probably wear lighter boots but these don't look bad.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm genuinely surprised that this look flies. I'll need to try it more to adjust my eye.

Minimalist-I think you hit exactly what concerned me. I am a rule follower and studied the "rules for conventional flattery" since I started reading women's mags as a young teen. That's over 2 decades of learning how to look slimmer, taller, define my waist, minimize my bust. JFE is a concept that I'm struggling to embrace.

I think you nailed this one! For everything you have going on, you have done your homework well, put in some thought and come up with a winning look! I particularly like how the distressing in your jeans picks up the strap wrapped around your bootie. It's subtle but excellent! I think you deserve bonus points for doing this while sleep deprived!

Add a necklace to match the bling on the boots and you are good to go. Great little outfit, lady. I miss your pretty face in these posts!

I see absolutely nothing wrong with this outfit! I admit I'm a fan of chunky boots -- I often feel like they even out proportions. You look great. Maybe it's a case of waiting for your eye to adjust to a look that is new to you.
