WIW: Celebration Evening - YouLookFab Forum

Hi Ladies,

Today was end of term for Master 10 and he is now off school until February:)
Tonight we have what the school calls "Celebration Evening" where the children graduate and are given awards etc.

I am wearing:

Black skinny jeans (that have bagged out shockingly with one day's wear:()
Grey sleeveless top
Black draped jacket
Black Booties

Not sure about a bag yet but will probably carry my gunmetal clutch and will pop on my watch and silver rings.

I find myself often dressed very differently to the other mums but I am embracing Penny's (Lantana) post of today:

and I am letting go of being concerned with dressing differently to my environmental norm and just wearing what I want to wear Thanks Penny

So, do I look school mum appropriate Does this outfit work, particularly the proportions?

Looks great Debs. And appropriate. I found there was a huge range in what is worn at those sort of evenings.

I think this is dressy yet laid back and perfect for the evening imo. School mums come in different kinds! Atleast DSs school mums! Some are in high heels and hot pants and others are in mommy jeans and tees! I fall in between. So yeah .. anything goes

Congrats to master 10! You definitely look school appropriate, even if you're not the 'norm.' I love the proportions you've put together here.

I love the jacket & you know this is one of my favourite silhouettes but I'm questioning the width of the tunic. Is it a little big on you? There seems to be a lot of fabric at the sides & back. Ignore me if it's not the case irl.

Caro, it may be the photo. The top is a small so I couldn't go any smaller:). I think it is the design tho;)

I, for one, will never get sick of the jacket! I like how the shape of the jacket echoes the hemline of the tunic.

I did check it out at Valley Girl and saw the cream version there as well- does the black have the quilted patch over the shoulder too? Very nice and very YOU

Hi Lyn, no the black one is just plain. I think the white one I saw had a black stripe under the underneath of the arm? Are your girls finished for the year too?

Deborah, the jacket has such beautiful lines that I don't think I could ever get sick of looking at it.

Oh wow, I love everything about this, Deborah. (So much so as to consider asking where the jacket and top are from so that I might look into getting my own!) The proportions are absolutely perfect, and I love the way the diagonal hem of the jacket plays off of the handkerchief hem of the top.

I agree with caro about the top and if I were intending to wear it on its own, I'd think about taking it to the tailor to get rid of a tiny bit of the fullness at the waist and hem, but the jacket you're wearing makes that completely unnecessary.

Congrats on reaching the end of the term! I love the outfit! There is a lot of volume on top, but it's dramatic and lovely, and you have the height and carriage to wear it beautifully.

My girls have their Presentation Evening next Wednesday, and have both finished except for end of year outings and activities for my Yr9- er.
I love the slower-paced mornings that come with holidays- more time for my Cuppa and YLF
