More trench weather! Worn on a very short trip out in search of felting wool - total bust. The rest of my day has been spent watching online television and nursing myself to health (fingers crossed). A very classic and conservative outfit for me, but it felt pretty good anyway. I suppose a little ombre goes a long way.

Also, one of these days, I will learn how to make the fun, messy quality of my haircut that I see in person translate into photographs. Until then...

You haircut AND your coat are gorgeous. The fit on that trench is fantastic for you. So glad you went through that whole trench buying process.

Holy moly, you look like a model here. The colors are so individual and yet harmonize together. The cut of the trench is so modern and cool but classic too. The bag (and how you dyed it) is so genius. Boots add edge but it's low-key. I love this!

Yum, delish...you and the outfit! How do you pull it off...I can't seem to do beige trenches! The caramel is so rich and warm on you. Love the pop of yellow and citron. And LOL that you are complaining that your hair looks too polished. I think it looks fab.

Tara, I got this trench last Spring, when I was still working at the office. It is the J. Crew Icon trench in "burnt caramel." I love it - it is definitely the best trench I tried on all last year.

Ceit, I like your hair in your photos! But I bet you are right that it's even better IRL.

Una, I shall have to investigate this razor technique. I'm sure lots of places do it, though finding them at a good price for my current income might be tricky now that I the short hair requires regular trims.

Thanks! I've tried on about ten trench coats in the last few weeks, and none of them are "it." J.Crew doesn't have your caramel color anymore, but I ordered this year's version to try. I'm in love with the classic trench look. (Only downside is they're back-ordered until January, but I guess I'll have a little post-holiday something to look forward to.) Now if I could just find the perfect riding boots...

Rae, the razor cutting can be damaging to your ends so I don't do it often - my hairdresser will cut it dry and slice in choppiness with the edge of the scissor. Even tthe sound is awful. But the effect is exactly what I want!

I don't have fine hair at all, but halfway down this page the black cut gives you an idea:

Janet, right you are! To me, trenches come right out of... well, the trenches. UWP-tastic all the way.

Tara, I'm glad you are trying it! I especially enjoy the way the cotton is crisp but not crinkly. That was my beef with many trenches.

Una, thanks for the info! I will have to keep that in mind. It turns out my hair is not so much fine as it is *heavy,* but the same rules might apply, since the goal is to keep the hair from lying limp.
