WiW: BR midi dress

I'm not sure it's supposed to be midi length - the online version hits more at the knee - but on me it is decidedly midi length. I am liking midi lengths at the moment, because I feel a tad wider than normal, and extra length to my eye gives me more of an elongating effect. Maybe that is all in my head. This dress also appealed to me for my travel capsule, as we have a big trip (vacation this time) coming up in March.

I can easily wear this to work as well, and out and about right now, with strategic layering for warmth. The dress is not exactly winter weight material (more like spring/fall weight), but I popped UO fleece leggings and a Commando slip underneath, and a warm BR cardigan over, and I was quite toasty, even in 16 degree weather. Only challenge was outerwear: a 3/4 coat looked odd over the midi, so I opted for this short puffer instead. Does it work?

I like this dress best worn with my Munro ankle booties, but they're taking a rest right now due to all the snow on the ground....

Bonus pic of the snow. We are getting another foot tomorrow. So I am relegated to wearing my ever-trusty, indestructible Nine West pleather tall wedge boots until the snow melts and puddles dry up. Ten years old and totally out of fashion but they really are the most practical boots and save my leather boots from destruction. I can splash through puddles. I can wade through snow banks. The plastic wedge heel gives me height (3") while also providing ample traction on ice. I can get salt all over them, and a quick wipe down with a damp cloth restores them good as new. This boots will Just. Not. Die.... lately I have been musing about that, if I did throw them out in the trash, would someone a thousand years from now find them during an archeological dig? Ha!

The dress looks great on you Shiny, the length is very flattering. Love all the different ways you styled it, it seems very versatile.
Now that snow is one of rare things I do not miss about Boston. Stay safe and warm!

Shiny - Nice. I really like this dress. And I don't wear dresses but I'm hoping something like this will work for me. I too enjoy the elongated look. And it definitely does this on you. I have a long black EF maxi cardigan that I would throw over this.

AM - we have similar coloring and I see you favor shades of gray too. I think you'd rock this dress! GAP has a version too; online GAP shows the midi length whereas BR is only showing a more knee-length version.

For spring I intend to lighten it up with white - white bag, and white booties (I have a pair on order right now, cross fingers they work). I actually think this dress would be cute with white sneakers or white slip ons (if I could find some that worked on my feet) and a jean jacket.

Wow, I can't get over the snow in your first pic!

I really like the dress and the length on you, and it looks like it could be dressed up or down. And the shorter puffer is a great choice - as long as it's warm enough!

What a super dress (and I love your scarf too! And the puffer--so nice in gray).
But what I really enjoyed was your description of the boots. I pictured you putting them in the donation bin, and the boots returning to you on their own, unscathed. Even though they are 10 years old, they look infinitely more stylish than my brand-new big chunky sporty snow boots. I am so impressed that you can wear a sleek wedge boot in the snow and in negative temps. Do your feet not get cold? I wish I could pull this off!

I feel for you on the snow - We have had one of the mildest winters in history after the arctic freeze and non-stop snow of last year.
The dress looks great on you and lends it self perfectly to winter cold weather layering without looking layered.
I would say the boots are now paying you when it comes CPW

I am with you on the pleather boots. I like to buy high-quality things, but there is big plus to pleather boots when there is snow on the ground! I have a pair of Naturalizer pleather dress boots that I have been wearing a lot this year due to the snow.

You are lucky to get a midi length dress - they are rare animals at the moment. This one looks very elegant and quite a canvas to dress up and down and to work with different topper styles.
You guys had quite a lot of snow this winter. It was not too bad for us so far - for a change: usually we are buried under feet of snow all winter long here in the Ontario snow belt.
This snowstorm is getting to us too - also a foot of snow in the forecast. Skinnies and tall boots for me for tomorrow commute!

That dress is a great find - it's the sort of versatile item that becomes a workhorse. It's a good length on you, and I like all the ways you've shown it.

In pic 2, I love how that beautiful scarf picks up the colours in your hair.

#1 is such a fun photo! (Though I'm sure that quantity of snow is a pain to have to cope with).

Beth Ann - it's actually not a sweater dress. It's some synthetic knit material, not sure what you call it, thinner than a sweater.

Sveta - midi's are not hard for me to find; I just try on the regular rather than the petite. Instant midi!

Shevia - they are wedges which I find adds to the stability. Don't ask me why or how, but I can and have walked all day long in these, without problems. My feet don't get tired in them. Maybe it's the angle of the last. They should have been worn out through the soles by now, but they are still going strong because the soles & heel are solid plastic. I don't think twice about crunching through dirty icy snow drifts in these -- you know, like when you park your car and then have to climb over a 5 foot tall snow bank to get to the sidewalk & pay the meter? Sigh...

KM - my feet do not get cold in them. I wear cashmere blend socks. I am not sure why my feet don't get cold in them. Maybe because they are synthetic.

The snow is coming down right now - plow has not hit our street. Looks like I'm not going anywhere today.

Lovely dress. I can see that being a real workhorse. And, great hair!

Intrigued by your footwear choice - I used to have a wedged boots with similar properties, which eventually gave out when the sole detached from the shoe. Hope those keep going strong for you, because it's great to have something elegant for striding through the slush.

Shiny, maybe is a "slub" knit/fabric?(you can google to see images and compare) Brilliant dress! Love it with the puffer!:-) navy cascade cardi looks also great! Wow-that is a BIG snow:-)
