WIW: Havana Nights in the Spring (or, dress with/without jeans and lotsa heels)

I know spring is here because the sun is so hot my exposed toes still feel comfie wearing open-toe heels to church when it was only 30 degrees F. (High today is 55. And yes I'm that crazy for spring!)

Today's WIW features the H&M dress that I wish I could live in forever. It's not lined so I have to wear a slip and cami. But my gosh, I feel like Rita Hayworth every time I slip in to it!! My fave way is paired with belt and heels. But I noticed recent posts about dresses over jeans. So I thought I would try it out.

1, 2, & 3. Dress paired with green turquoise snakeskin belt and fave spring heels (Guess, spearmint patent leather and floral satin).

4, 5. Tried it over jeans with spring heels. Forgot the belt. This dress (or my waist?) needs the belt to anchor it?

6,7. Jeans. Nude patent heels and cheetah belt.

8,9. Jeans. Silver grey patent peep toes and royal blue patent belt.

10,11. Sans jeans. Silver peep toes and ble belt again.

13. Makeup. Not sure I like the pink lipgloss at all. It feels off with rest of my makeup. Not intense enough? Test driving Elea Blake Minerals "Autumn Glo 2" aka Miss November. It's a bronzer for Winters! And honestly it feels like the most natural bronzer color I've ever worn.

In other news...I am a winter. A dark winter. (Crutcher, my lovely dear you called it <3 ) I tried on dark autumn lipsticks and they turned an awful orange on my lips and made my skin look like a rusty orange sallow muddy mess.

ETA: needed bright lipstick!!! Tried true-to- warmer red and cooler red-pink. Think I'm liking the true red...

Well you look SUPER beautiful, and I think the pale lipstick works perfectly -- married with the soft pink eye shadow your green eyes become the dominant feature. I think you also look great in the red lipstick. Sometimes I do I lot less with eyes (just mascara) with lips that red so that they become the centerpiece -- I also love the way you have done your eyes in the last shot too though.

Greetings from another Dark Winter! I need to try out that bronzer. Will it work on legs? (lol). I also love the metallic temporary tats, I've seen them on others but never tried them out.

That is a great dress. I think I prefer the first shoes most of all, the pattern and ankle strap makes them feel nu-70's. I also like the green(?) belt with them and think it works over the jeans. I also like the blue belt in picture 8-11.

Karin, me too!! It's my fave look. I think the print really breaks up all the black and makes it more fun. I am liking the grey heels but it needs a printed belt with some buzz.

Rabbit, hello Dark Winter ya know it might lol! It's powdered mineral makeup so you could mix it in with a lotion. Not sure how long it would last. But worth it for an evening with bare legs and a short dress yes? try it snd see if you like it. I sure love it. No orange in it and not so brown to make you flat and muddy. It's got a lot of red to it--looks shocking in the container!

Thanks for the feedback on lipcolor. I get worried I'll look washed out. But I see the pink is a nice softer day look. And appropriate for spring. Eye makeup is the same except I sheered it a bit with some champagne in the last pic--just so it was less Dynasty looking ha?

I'm loving the soft glam 70s and Cubano type looks very much, so the green shoes are also my faves. The jeans look, glad you think it works. Still orefer the dress solo but good to have options for cooler days!

I like the dress sans jeans better and I think the pink lip gloss is very pretty on you. Certainly not as dramatic as the red, but it looks very feminine and pretty.
I love the floral heels.
If only I was shorter, I would wear heels like that too. Sigh

Minnie, wear your heels! I'm 5'10. Granted my dearest is 6'3 so he doesn't get dwarfed by heels.

Yes I'm seeing that the pink is wuite nice! Not as dramatic but more approachable. Still prefer the dress by itself. But thought I would try a trend.

I think this dress is quite nice and versatile for your style! `It's very glam with the heels, but I kinda like with the jeans too. I like the idea of maybe a wider cognac belt and strappy or gladiator-ish kind of sandal to ground in the "boho" side. (of course, I am totally searching for a wide cognac belt to wear with black for myself, so I may be projecting. )
And yes, the pink lips achieve the "I woke up like this" ease I always strive for. Nicely done all around!

Gorgeous! I love the first outfit with the colorful shoes and the last closeup. I also pretty well like everything in between. Interesting about your colors - I also assumed I am a winter but my skin tone is darker than yours and Rabbit's and so is my original hair. Anyway, you are smashing!

I liked it a lot with belt and heels like #1/2, but since it's a very versatile style, I think it would look lovely with more casual counterparts too, like a feminine denim jacket, a interesting belt and black heels or low wedge sandals, 2 fingers width belt and a statement bracelet (something about your dress makes me think in rustic stones like turquoise, agate, abalone and jade).

About your make up, I think #13 pink lipgloss doesn't really vanish, it's just that it doesn't stand out because it blends perfectly with your natural colors - it creates a "I did nothing, I just wake up pretty" sort of effect.

I love the dress with the colorful shoe, turquoise belt, flash tattoo, and lighter lip. That's my favorite! I also think it looks fresh over jeans but I would like to see more color contrast. Maybe a jacket, or a brighter belt and shoes?

Rita, where have you been?...The world of fashion and style have so missed you..You my dear Keturah are a dead ringer for the late bombshell...I love every look..and you are such a wonderful winter!...
My favorite look is the first with the floral heels...I am 5'9" and I so wear heels..Glad you are confident enough to wear what makes you look so great...
I like the jeans with the dress..not my fav but a good try...
I also like the dress and the gray patten peep toes...I love you wearing the floral heels to church with toes out in 30 degrees...You so go girl..
All in all, I think you have hit your style with the look and the winter colors..

As for the lipgloss... I guess I need to wear it more often! Here I was convinced I need a shade of nude gloss for a natural makeup look. Yet, this fuchsia gloss (which I threw on because I own only 2 lip glosses), gets all the love! And now I realize sheer fuchsia is my "nude." Totally love it and you!

doubleh, oh too funny! I wore it several times with my strappy gladiators last summer, and a skinny cognac belt! I wouldn't mind a wider cognac belt myself. Let me know when you find one. And yes, the pink lips achieve the "I woke up like this" ease I always strive for. My heart is a'flutter I wasn't even trying for it. I only own two lip glosses, a nude and a bright fuchsia -- bright fuchsia got slapped on.

shevia, I'm still a bit torn on the jeans+dress. I think this dress is a bit long to pull it off? I don't mind it though. And I appreciate the feedback from you <3 As for colors... It's helpful info, but it can box ya in too, at least for me. I do wonder if you're a Deep Autumn. Autumns have lower contrast levels. And you have a lot of warmth. You could also be a Deep Winter like me! Play with colors. How well you wear black is a big key. If you can wear it and it not pull the eye from your face, you may be a winter or a Deep Winter/Autumn. (or so I've read.) I found lipstick "draping" only somewhat helpful. Truth is, there are several shades that I can wear fairly well from other seasons, and some in my own season that look terrible on me.

marina, you make me want to go shoe shopping! I don't own a lot of rustic jewelry, but I see now how the dress has a bit of boho vibe that would be fun to play with. I don't have a denim jacket, but I do have a pearl snap denim shirt that would be run to wear over it, or tie at the waist. Thanks for the great idea!

I wonder if the length is too long, and also Staysfit pointed out maybe it needs more color or contrast. Yeah, the grey peep-toes were a unexpected love! I think I'll be wearing it again with those. Way to be tall and wear those heels! Here's to Hollywood for us both

Just can't get behind the dress over jeans thing. My favorites are the first 3 pics, those shoes are to die for. You look great in both lip color options, just depends what style you are going for - effortless or effortful.

Keturah, you are so gorgeous in those closeups! I like your makeup in 13 and 14, the latter being more glamorous and the former more natural, but both suit you well. (15 is also good, but I prefer the red to the pinkish-red lipstick.)
The dress is fabulous on you, and I especially like it with the floral shoes and green belt. I do like it over the jeans, and belted rather than not. But maybe also try a wider belt as someone suggested?

trekkie, I'm with you on the dress with jeans thing. Yesterday I tried on a shorter dress over the same jeans and heels. It is still a "no." I feel like an imposter every time I do it. It's like I'm trying to be cool but everyone is going to know I tried to be cool and thus am not cool. It's not effortless that's for sure.

I like both effortless and effortful looks. I think it depends on the day and the occasion.

And the shoes... they are those kind of shoes that say "this is my style." I would wear them with any trend, any day from here to 10 years from now. I love them that much. And I love that they were $16 clearance buy!

Firecracker, you are lovely <3 I prefer the red to pink-red myself! It seems to blend or compliment my face and coloring better. And it's a more beautiful and interesting shade I think. I think I will try a wider belt once I can find the right one. I've done skinny belts for a long time, but wouldn't mind trying something with a bit more heft.

I love the first one with the green heels. I am jealous of your ability to wear those high heels as well as your curly hair! Your makeup looks great to me but I'm pretty boring in the makeup arena.

AviaMaria, the heels won this round! My great-grandmother wore spike high heels until she had a stroke in her early 90s. I feel high heels are in my genes! HA! I just love them. Thank you for the loving words on my makeup. I can wear a LOT. Not caked on or anything, just everything on my gets a bit of something. I don't know if thats good or bad, lol. I know they say too much makeup can have an aging effect, so lately I've tried to tone it down. I've seen some of your recent WIW photos and I love your makeup-- it's soft and very pretty.
