WIW 9/17: Polka dots and plaid ETA ... or not!

I've had this blazer for several years and lo and behold, plaid is having a moment so I'm feeling like it's still kind of current. We're still sweltering out here on the Left Coast so I've teamed it with a sleeveless linen blouse to try and beat the heat.

Navy ankle pants: Banana Republic
Polka dot blouse: Ralph Lauren (consignment)
Plaid blazer: Trina Turk
Orange pumps: Seychelles
Gold tote: Michael Kors

This is a lot going on, but I feel like maybe it looks better in real life than in the photo. What do you all say?

EDIT: I had been on the fence about whether to wear my plaid jacket or the orange linen jacket (cooler!), and quietgirls' comment below pushed me over the edge and I decided to change. Maybe I'm not the plaid-and-polka-dots girl I once was!

Do you think I made the right call?

The house report continues to be positive. They patched up the wall in the den yesterday where they moved the closet to the other side of the wall to open up into the laundry room. This will be where the sofa goes, opposite the giant TV! And the pieces for the new master bath are starting to arrive and assemble in the den while waiting to be installed. Big fun!

Well, I would have gone with the plaid and dots. It's more your look. The second look is really nice, but the unexpected advanced pattern mix in look one is more MsMary. Either way, you look great today, esp given the relentless heat you are enduring.

Another pattern mix lover, I prefer #1. Love it! The plain orange jacket takes the outfit very close to Halloween territory for me. The heels are delightful!

Forgot the house . For a minute there I thought that giant TV was in your bedroom! It is exciting watching the renovations each day.

Joy, the giant TV is currently in the bedroom where I'm camped out during the renovations (you can see it on my left in the photos). But when we are finished it will go on the wall in the den and I will downsize to a mere 42-incher for my bedroom! LOL

I like both outfits, with a slight preference for the pattern mixing fun in outfit #1. On my screen, your orange blazer looks much brighter than the Nordstrom stock photo, so that could be affecting my choice

Karie, it looks brighter in my photo than it really is. It's really quite close to the stock photo. So not too Halloweeny!

I'm with Karie. Both ensembles look good. But I lean toward the mixed patterns depending on what your day looks like. The second rendition seems more conservative. The first literally made me smile.

Great outfits. I especially like the first--such a happy combo! I do find the big gold bag a bit distracting; maybe a something more angular--a flat or small box clutch, maybe--would be more in tune with your crisp and colorful pattern mix?

I really like the plaid + polka dots. I think I'd just go for a less eye-catching shoe and bag so that the eye is mostly drawn to the two bold prints. Or at least that's my strategy when doing something unconventional to try to make it look more intentional. That said, I'm not a seasoned pattern-mixer, so I don't know how much expertise I lend :). You have some really cool pieces in your wardrobe - I like that you try to have fun with them! You look lovely.

I hope with all my heart that you wore #1 somewhere because it is PERFECT. #2 would be at home anywhere, but it doesn't have nearly the stun factor of the first outfit!
