WIW 8/3: Dots and watercolor and green shoes

This jacket is part of a suit -- I wore the skirt a couple of days ago. I decided to try it with my new favorite watercolor print skirt and the new green shoes. I kind of like the retro/modern vibe.

I'm not feeling like the navy jacket with white polka dots is photographing all that wel. I think it looks better in person. (ETA close-up of the pattern mix.) Anyway, what do you all think?

I just love that dress, so I woud showcase it and not have another large pattern w/it, but thats just me....you look so lovely!

I think it turned out fresh, colorful, and summery! You're right that in close-up, the colors go very nicely. You're always such a breath of fresh air

I love the pattern mix and the color palette! For me, somehow, the jacket shape looks a bit dated (wider collar + 3-button high stance + padded shoulders?), vs., especially, your 1-button white jacket or the new NAS ones with the double-breasted low stance (in teal and purple, I think?). Just my two cents!

Seriously, though, I realize it's not the freshest style and this is an experiment to see whether I can breathe life into it. The shape is definitely dated but I thought the white trim on the cuffs and the polka dots were contemporary enough that maybe I could make it work. But maybe I should leave it to the twentysomething bloggers so I don't look like I've been holding on to it all these years...

I'll be interested to see what others have to say on that issue.

Hmmm. I love the colour/pattern mix but I agree the shape of the jacket seems a bit off. What happens if you button one button?

Hm, the jacket does look a teeny bit dated to me. What about Suz's idea to only button one button? It might create the illusion of a lower stance.

The pattern mix is adorable, though - and OMG the shoooooes!

I just ADORE that skirt MaryK - and wow, the shoes are brilliant with it! I also love the touches of white in the top, handbag and details on the jacket. The pattern mixing is fantastic.

As for the shape of the jacket, I'm kind of on the fence....will think on it some more...

I'm with Jonesy on the jacket. I've had to reform my thrifting ways because all too often I'm willing to try anything, With so many decades of fashions behind me, it's way too easy for me to think something looks fine because it's somewhere in my fashion muscle memory.

But the idea is fab, and don't you have another polka dot jacket? If not, you need one!

MK, you are so fearless when it comes to pattern mixing- I love your sense of adventure.
OK, so the jacket's not my favorite, either, but I like the idea of polka dots with that fab skirt.
And, oh, those shoes! They are so wonderful!

Mixed feelings about the jacket Mary. Not so long ago I thrifted a designer jacket in a similar cut but I ended up passing to my mum and she loves it. It looks lovely on her and she is not so concerned with looking ""fashion forward". I think it really depends on what you are hoping to achieve:)

Can you remove the shoulder pads?

I like the pattern mixing and don't think the jacket is that bad, the whole outfit looks ladylike classic to me.

Those of you who don't like the jacket, is it because it objectively doesn't look good, or because it isn't au courant? Or is there really any meaningful difference between the two?
