I tried yet another Ivory top. This one is a DVF peplum but it is soft and fluid, not stiff. I paired it with my grey skinny jeans, and a dark red cashmere crew topper. I am still trying to figure out toppers over fluid tops, and peplums are particularly difficult. Not sure if the peplum is my style or not, but fluid looks seem to work so I do need to figure out the topper part. I have long arms and fit is a big problem. What type of toppers work with fluid tops?

Based on previous WIW's I have figured out that I did not like gaping arm holes or low stretched out necklines. A stiff shirt mixed with a stiff bottom looks, stiff! (obviously) That is what motivated me to try the fluid top with a more structured pant. What do you think?

I love it both ways. I especially like it without the sweater. I think you have the right idea with the contrast of soft details (top) and stark simplicity (bottom).

I like it both ways as well, this top has a lovely soft element to it. I think the topper is a lovely color- seems to pick up the red tones in you hair. Not sure about the shape and length- perhaps the rounded color is fighting with the V-neck? Not sure I would have picked up on it without you asking though - I do think it all looks nice together.

Great colors, and I think the top works well on you. I am with n-Marie; I think a v neck cardigan or a blazer, anything with a lower neckline, would compete less than the crew neck of the cardigan does with the top.

I like the top better on its own -- its lines don't seem to play nicely with the lines of the cardigan (neck-line shapes, competing hem lines).
the colors are lovely together, though, and the gray pants are great with the top.

Staysfit, do you have any style descriptors you're working from? I ask because the blouse strikes me as unexpectedly detailed and "a lot going on" in comparison to the relative calm I get from your demeanor, and from the clean lines of your hair and frame. Does the top feel like you? (I'm not saying it's NOT you or shouldn't be you. Just wondering.)

I love both of these looks on you. I'm actually a fan of the cardigan over the top, with the necklines as they are. I should admit, though, I'm a bit of a cardigan addict. I really like the necklace you've paired with the peplum top!

Perhaps I'm being a stickler (and perhaps I'm totally off base!) But I would be inclined to call this a FITTED or tailored but SOFT top, vs. a "fluid" top. I think of fluid fit tops as having more ease in the waist or around the shoulder area (or both).

It reads as extremely feminine. (The peplum and the soft gauzy fabric ensures that). I am curious, like Liz, if this fits into your style goals or direction. Also, like her, not saying it should or it should not. Just curious.

Day Vies, Thanks for the feedback on my fluid plus structure choice. I think the silhouette is good. Now I am going to tweak it just a bit, because it seems like the problem with the sweater might be the collar shape based on the rest of the feedback.

N-Marie, I agree that a topper with a v-neck would be better to complement the line of the blouse. I am so unsure what length topper to put with my blouses. I am confused. I used to think long over short, and short over long. Now, I don't know?

Laura, I also like these colors together. I just added the gray pants recently. It's interesting because I was trying to avoid gray but as soon as I added some to my wardrobe, I have found that I like mixing it with warm colors. (For those who know, I did not buy them during my No Spend September! I have been true to my word with DD)

Liz, your points are well taken. The top does not feel like me, even though I think it looks good on me, and it actually has been sitting in my closet unworn most of the summer. I tend to gravitate to simpler lines and this is definitely a departure. I don't have reliable style descriptors that I work from, and know that they would be helpful. I'm adding this to my "to do list".

Suz, you are right when you say the top is extremely feminine. I have a feminine side, but I would say that most of my clothing is not extremely feminine. The feminine in my style most often comes from my scarves, my bangles, my earrings, my necklaces, and sometimes my shoes. Even when I wear a dress the lines and detail tend to be simple. I am sure I am misusing the term fluid, so thanks for the correction.

Of the Ivory blouses I am sorting, this one is tough. I like how it looks but it may not exactly fit my style. When this happens to people do you keep or purge? (I am not going to do anything hasty with this one, I'm just asking opinions)

Purge; once you've removed these "nice but not you" items, your style will suddenly come into clearer focus.

I think both are great looks. The crew neck of the cardigan is wide enough to not compete with the top, imo. Lovely colors!

With a really pretty item like this -- if I still like it, my inclination is to keep -- especially if I can find ways to style it that do feel like "me," and especially f it feels good to wear, or is higher quality fabric (as this one appears to be.) Sometimes we need a wild card. It might turn out to be exactly the item you need to "feminize" a more streamlined look -- for a date night, for instance.
