WIW 6/5: Unmatched matchy-matchy

Since the Nanette Lepore jacket is going back, I picked up this light turquoise jacket at the Rack over the weekend. What do you think? Too long? Too bright? I usually don't do one-button jackets but this one seems to work. I already cut the tags but am still interested in your opinions!

I don't think I could say to anyone else "way to anchor your neons with turquoise" but... way to anchor your neons with turquoise :} I think I'd prefer not to see the blouse cuffs with the blazer. LOVE the big white bag with this outfit!

Wow - I love that neon top! I realize that is not the question, but still. I love the color of the jacket and don't think it is too long, but proportions are not my specialty, to say the least.

I am unsure about the jacket. But I can't put my finger on why. It may indeed be the cuff issue that Aida alluded to, though I am usually one who loves the peek of a cuff, and heaven knows this blouse is well worth showcasing!! I do think the jacket's a great colour for you (but then what isn't?)

The sleeves of the jacket are pre-scrunched, which means they are really 3/4 or bracelet length. And yes, I think there is too much cuff showing. It's actually the cuff plus about half an inch of sleeve, which is too much. So probably full long sleeves aren't the best option for this jacket, unless I turn 'em back, which I could totally do.

And yes, the white bag was a find from last summer and has been a real workhorse for me!

I actually prefer this outfit without any kind of jacket - let that wild neon blouse be the star she is! That having been said, there's something about the jacket that isn't sitting right with this particular outfit. But I'd like to reserve judgement on the jacket itself until I see it with something else.

Gotcha. Then I definitely vote to pull the sleeve up inside and let your wrists show, especially since the blazer is a looser/breezier cut.

I agree, Shannon. I often prefer my outfits without the jacket, but I feel I must have a jacket to wear from my car to the office and back again. It hangs on a hanger on a coat rack in the corner of my office for most of the day, saying "MaryK knows that professional women should wear jackets" to all passersby! LOL

I also think the colors are a little off in the photo. In real life it's closer to the color of the skirt.

Trying to put my finger on my jacket reservations as well. I think the way it falls around the underarm and bust area make it look like the bust is too big while the waist is too small? Maybe something about the cut or the picture just gives that illusion.

My first thought was that it was cut wider and straighter, but the shoulders gave me a pause that I credited to angle. Could you post some photos with a plain slim tee?

I think that jacket seeks fulfillment paired with trousers and a scoopneck top, not a skirt and PB blouse (I could be totally wrong, but that's my gut instinct :).

Jonesy, I think you nailed it. I will definitely try it with trousers and a simpler top next time! The jacket is ALGO in and of itself and I think I just overdid it with today's ensemble.

Hahaha MaryK, I kinda felt the same way when I was looking at my WIW pics from yesterday. I think we are just perfectionists!

I like this blouse and skirt combo a lot! Less thrilled with the jacket on top, but I am more of a full-on matchy matchy fan than adjacent color fan. Would love to see the jacket with some other ensembles though!

MK, I think the jacket would have received a warmer reception if if had not followed the skirt and blouse combo as a standalone, because that is so chic and flattering. The jacket dampens that effect, versus enhancing it. By all means, let's see the jacket with slacks or maybe white jeans with a pop of red or yellow.

LOVE the skirt and top! Seems like the jacket is obscuring your figure somehow, not in a surrender way, but in a not-hanging-quite-right way. I would like to see it styled differently, per Jonesy's suggestions, as the first picture is just so stellar on its own!

Every time I see your WIW posts, I feel I am more in love with your wardrobe. I love your blouse.
That jacket is nice but not quite form fitting. Can you alter it? Loved the look however.

Jonesy is right. Try it with maybe a darker color, maybe even black (if you wear that). The jacket and shirt are fighting for attention!!!
But, you have a wonderful way with color though; the blouse and skirt and rest of the ensemble are MAGNIFIQUE!!!

While I was rolling around the floor giggling at Aida's remark, I noticed you're not facing the camera full on. Could that be what's confusing the jacket shape for us, I wonder? Also wonder what it looks like with the waist button done up? It is a longer line jacket, after all, so may be that's all it needs to bring the proportions back together.

You are friggin hilarious. I'm chuckling at " Since The NL is going back, I picked up this turquoise blazer"... Too cute!
I think the jacket is too long for skirts but it would look smashing with white jeans, denim, your camel pants, bootcuts and the list goes on....

Wow! Thanks, Angie! I'm going to have to re-think my rule about "every work outfit MUST include a jacket!"

I must say that I love this neon blouse so much it hurts. It's a genuine 70s item that I got for the ridiculous price of $10 at a local vintage store, and it fits me perfectly from the no-gap button front to the sleeve length, which is a rare and wonderful thing! Plus every time I wear it I'm transported back to to my high school years, in a very good and fun way! I know I would have totally drooled over this blouse back in the day and it just tickles me that I now own it and wear it!

I hate it when I don't hit it out of the part, but I LOVE it when a base hit or a foul ball results in a fashion breakthrough like "Wow. Maybe I really CAN just wear a skirt and blouse to work fromtime to time!" Thanks, ladies!
