So this is the maxi skirt I got for $15 at Costco. Worn with Saint James striped shirt, white leather moto, neon green acrylic necklace, white Prada golf shoes and Coach bag.

Taking Jenava out for lunch.

Bonus pictures from drive back to Seattle.

Your travel photos look very much like Kansas, except the yellow field flowers would be sunflowers. The maxi skirt gives the look of wide legged flowy trousers in 2.

I love that this fab outfit incorporates a $15 skirt! My $12 black maxi from TJ Maxx only leaves the house when the neighborhood thrift store has a big sale. The store doesn't have dressing rooms so the maxi is a wearable curtain while I pull on pants or a skirt underneath. I always hope that nobody I know sees me, even though there are usually several women who don't care who sees their undies.

Well I'm going to try one more outfit with this skirt with my leather tank. This did not feel like me. It felt like a skirt version of yoga pants. I don't even wear yoga pants to work out in. Luckily it was a cheap experiment. I will say that it may fit a niche for al fresco dining in Seattle when it's in the mid sixties and there's a breeze.

Love your spin on the maxi. Keep it around for sure. Looking forward to seeing more fun Anna combos with it. I bought my first black maxi dress this year for vacation. Might try to play around with it at home for some skirt-look combos. It's never really been my thing either, but fun to try, and you really look great!

Really love the pairing of citron/green, white, and turquoise in this outfit.

The maxi is interesting, I usually associate your style with architecture and structured shapes, and the drape of the maxi is a different feeling. I think trying it with the top you describe could work well, especially with shoes that provided a structured counterpoint at the bottom. But I'm intrigued by the idea of pairing a maxi with oxford-like shoes, I want to try that.

It's a cool outfit; the skirt does look like a departure for you, but you have made the look your own. Like Rabbit, I'm taken with the idea of wearing laceup shoes with a maxi. But after reading your comment, I'm wondering if the outfit would feel more like your style if you wore boots, booties, high-top sneakers, something along those lines? Too predictable?

Oh, yeah, and your photos really make me long for a road trip!

I was wondering where the leather top was, as you mentioned that being the reason you bought the maxi in the first place, if I remember. Glad to know that you will still pair the two. I hope you will post pix when you do!

You look nice, although it is quite a bit "softer" than your usual outfits. I think it's because of what Rabbit pointed out: your style usually is more angular. I love maxis for their comfort and also for when I want to feel a bit elegant.

I like the maxi but I understand the feeling of something not feeling like "you." In fact, the last time I wore my black maxi skirt it didn't feel like "me," which was odd to me because it did last year. Try a few different stylings with it, and see if that feeling changes. If not then yes, chalk it up to a cheap experiment and pass it on!

This is a gorgeous maxi outfit, and a great combo of high and low end! All your items are fab but I (for my older self at least:-)) would leave out the neon acrylic bib for a matter. I guess for me the high neckline AND the stripes would be enough of interest on the upper half. Great sunnies and bag, too!:-)

I understand it not feeling quite right, but you look great.

I am occasionally attracted to maxis but find them less appealing in practice than in theory -- good thing I never heavily invested in them. I'm thinking about chopping one I have down to midi or high-low midi length. I think I'd wear it more that way.
