Good question Janet. I love that sweatshirt on Anna, and like the clever wordplay of the outfit and the way it comes together.
I was wondering why it doesn't bother me in the same the way a gun might. Part of it is that I unconsciously see it as a historical image, an artifact (although a powerful and very terrifying and troubling one) rather than a present controversy.
With gun images, especially if they are pointed at the observer, it mimics a current threat. Also anything that contributes to making guns 'cool' and normalizing them is something I personally want to avoid.
The pop cultural connection of the A bomb with sexy images like bombshell and 'bikini' (named after Bikini Atoll, I think?) is worth a think about. Rita Hayworth was supposedly horrified that her pinup picture and/or character name was painted on an atomic bomb.
