WIW 12/15: Non-matching purple suit

I thrifted this purple blazer a week or two ago, and am over the moon about how "it doesn't match, it goes" with my purple magenta Halogen skirt!! It has more padding in the shoulders than I'd like (i.e., some instead of none) but I think I can live with it anyway. What do you all think?

Purple magenta pencil skirt: Halogen
Leopard pumps: Jessica Simpson

Mary, I LOVE the colours here! Does that jacket seem a little large, or is it supposed to be "boyfriend-y".

That's my question, Angie. It's a little bigger than the jackets I paid more than $8 for, but do you think I can make it work?

LOL on the pumps! I was thinking "Leopard is a neutral" as I put them on!!

MaryK - I agree with Angie, the jacket is a bit big. But I think it works. Could it be altered any to make it a bit more fitted?

Okay, here are a couple of less adorable shots. I think it works, but give it to me straight, Angie and everybody!

I'm kind of with Kendi of Kendi Everyday, who says "everything fits." I don't really mind that this is a little bigger than the jackets I usually wear, given that it was eight bucks and is suck a rockin' color, you know?

EDITED TO ADD sleeves rolled down. I think that's better.

I love the colors--like a gorgeous sunset. I'm not Angie, obviously, but here's my two cents on the jacket: I wonder about the fit of the sleeves...The body seems workable, but those sleeves seem sort of wide and maybe too long?

PS you are still adorable in these new pics :).

Interesting, Jonesey. They're not too long because I had them shortened. I rolled 'em up to show the sleeves of the blouse and the lining that matched the skirt, but you're right... that's making them seem too wide or whatever. Hmmm...

I don't think it looks too big sans adorable pose .... I really like the way it "goes" with the skirt.

I rolled down the sleeves and added a photo in the second photo post above. I think that fixes some of Jonesy's concerns, although yeah, the sleeves could definitely be slimmer. Not that I am going to invest that kind of dough in an $8 jacket with shoulder pads, I don't think.

First off, I absolutely love this colour palette on you MaryK! Angie is the expert, but to my eye, the jacket looks good in the second bunch of photos and I think it can work for you.

MK, don't recall, but do you ever belt over jackets? I wonder what a belt over this jacket would do to it with this skirt?

Hi, while I usually love the outfits you put together, I feel this jacket is okay looking but not perfect. While the colour is divine, I think the proportions ( longer length) in relation to the skirt are a bit different that what I'm used to see. I guess it will go with skinny jeans/trousers in a more boyfriend style. With the skirt I'm liking it more closed. I don't know why. I guess it's more conservative in shape than your usual business bombshell looks.

I think it looks great and the two colors work beautifully together. I was thinking the same thing as claudia. The shape of this jacket would really work with a belt over top.

I may have to find out if we have consignment shops here. I am envious of all the great finds.

Mary, I hate to even mention because you always look so fab and the color is divine but the fit of this jacket is reading a bit Hillary Clinton to me. Not that I don't admire her - she is a role model if there ever was one! I just wish she were one of Angie's clients!

Okay, take this with a large grain of salt, but... I feel this jacket looks dated because of the way it fits. This is coming from someone who until recently wore just about any item happily overlooking flaws if it cost under $10 thrifted. Plus I have a hard time thinking of myself as too short or too small for anything! Now I've gone 180 degrees and can't find anything that meets my new crazy-high standards at the thrift store.

So given my brand new eyeballs, I think it skews a little frumpy, and that will never do for the queen of anti-frumpulousness. The colors and all the rest are so great, but to me the jacket is bringing it down. Maybe with a t-shirt and a pair of jeans it would have more of a hip boyfriend look?

This was so fun! Like, "workshopping" an outfit in real time! LOL

I happened to feel fab all day in this outfit, and if I looked a little bit like our Secretary of State, that doesn't actually bother me.

But.

I bought three jackets at the thrift store that day, and two of them fit just like this one, which is not really right, is it? They don't NOT FIT, but they don't fit in a current way. Something about being too roomy in the upper part or whatever.

So having had my fun with this non-matching suit, I may have to turn this back over to the Assistance League and find a purple jacket that fits perfectly.

I hear they're having a sale at J. Crew today...

I love the colors, but I also think the jacket isn't a great fit (as you all have noticed, roomy in the arms); the collar and button placement look a bit dated to me as well. I love the idea of colorful blazers that "go" but don't "match" your colorful pencil skirts though!

EDIT: The leopard pumps look fabulous with this! I adore the smaller scale print of those shoes.
