WIW - Outfit fail and correction

This outfit warranted a sepate post from my usual WIW. I wanted to wear this floral midi skirt with the striped tunic. I liked the combo of floral and stripes and thought the long top would debombshell the skirt. I thought it looked ok in the mirror, but as soon as I saw the pics, I changed. I thought the top overwhelmed me. I take pictures as I'm walking out the door so I had to do a fast change to avoid being late to work. I pulled this white asymmetric top out since I didn't have to change any of the other pieces of my outfit. I thought it looked much better.

So, what do you guys think? Did I make a good choice? Should I have stuck with the original top?

Yes -- You look stunning in #3-4. I like the pattern mixing in #1-2, but I agree that the tunic may a bit long and full to pair with the skirt. But it might work well over some slim crops.

You made a great choice. I'm usually all for different porpotions but this had something unique going on. The second fit is hot.

The drapy white tee does look great with the skirt. I wonder if floral pants would work with the striped top. Or floral scarf or shoes with black crops, maybe.

I prefer the white top with that skirt. Although I like both tops.

I really like the idea of the striped top with your skirt, but the top itself looks a little big on you, that's all. Nice save, as Manny said, with the white top. It's dressier, but still perfectly good for work

Agree with everyone's comments. Interestingly the striped top looks good with that skirt from the side, just not from the front where it seems too big etc. Nice save!

Agree with the switch. I think the long tee and skirt seemed mismatched in kind. And simply long. I think it could work tho if you went street funky - but it would be an off duty look and probably not very you...

I also love pattern mixing, and stripes and florals are a great combo. This tunic, however, is a bit loose, long and lightweight for wearing with the pencil. I do think Rachy's right, though --- if you were wearing sneakers or bulky birkenstocks -- dressing down the whole look -- it might work.

Love the final outfit!

Agree the second choice works better here - the first one looks too long for the look. You look terrific!

I also like the stripes with the floral pattern, but I prefer the top you changed to. It's a beautiful match for the skirt--softly structured and feminine.

I think the tunic is too loose and flowy for the more structured pencil skirt. Sometimes I feel that way when I try on a tunic with my skinny trousers; the pants seem too classic and formal looking for some of my drapey tunics.
I wonder if the tunic would work with a short jacket over it to rein it in.(Maybe not, but perhaps worth a try.)

I like a long top with a pencil skirt. I think the skirt is just a little too long for the top in the first outfit, not vice versa (if it's a tube skirt I would try hitching it to just above the knee level, I think that could make a difference). I also think the fabric of the striped top looks a little too sheer and too casual for the (dressier) floral skirt. The skirt might need a more substantial top. The pattern mix is fine. So I think there is potential to experiment there if you like the look. The second outfit is very nice indeed.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I've worn the top with leggings and skinny jeans for casual outfits and I think it looked fine. Maybe it is a bit big on me though. It's a size small and to be honest, I never would have tried an XS. I just don't think of myself as an XS. I may be thin but my ribcage is wide.

I don't think I have another striped summer top. I have a striped sweater that I've worn with it in the winter and I liked the combination.
