WIW - Fix or Not??

I wore this crochet top with a pair of pants last week and thought the proportions were off. Angie suggested trying it with a pencil skirt. I am linking to it.

I tried it today and am not sure it fixed the problem. I think the white tank under the lace is throwing me off. I wonder if it would work better with a darker tank and skirt.

Critiques and suggestions more than welcome. Should I give up on this top?

I like it better with the column of aqua. I think the modern stripes are at odds with the more boho feel of the top. I think if the skirt were solid, it would look more cohesive. The top is gorgeous and I could see it with harem pants too. Don't give up on it. I also saw a lot of people wear these tops over swim suits and with denim cut offs in Hawaii. I think it would look cool with BF jeans too.

THat's a very pretty top. I think a dark tank underneath might be your solution. Also, if you have one that is a bit longer than the top you can change up the proportions. I wouldn't give up on it quite yet.

I really like the top and skirt together, but agree that it looks a bit off. I wonder if a white layer that sits entirely inside the neckline of the top, rather than peeking out a little, would look more intentional? Or perhaps a navy tank to match the (gorgeous!) lace top might be better?

A pair of white shoes will probably pull together the look of the tops with the skirt as is.

A navy tank will pull together the outfit with those shoes.

Rachy, it isn't really fitted but it is almost like a bias cut fabric in that it flows into the body. I will probably give it another try with a different color skirt or tank.

If I had a top like this, I'd want to wear it with a long, black flowing skirt. Or black trousers, or a black pencil skirt. But I'm a huge fan of black... that said, I also like wearing black tops with dark red, plum, mauve, forest green, or charcoal. I think that any dark, rich color provides a nice counterpoint to a top that is both black and highly detailed/textured.

I agree with the commenter who recommended switching to a black tank. With delicate fabrics like this crochet, I think a more delicate tank, with narrower straps, could do a lot to smooth out the look. You could also try wearing a tank in a darker color, for less contrast. With a dark plum, navy, or emerald tank, you also might be able to leave a band of color showing below the hem of the black crochet top.

Oh don't give up on it. I love it with the column of aqua!
This is a little busy for me, but you're so pretty, you're pulling it off really well.
With the striped skirt, I'd like a navy tank underneath better. I think a navy skirt with the white tank and white shoes would be fab.
