Wisdom of waiting vs pounce when you see it?

I am in a tank and short (AGAIN) as I type this. I'm contemplating sweaters for F/W. I know I am moving back to the snow, and that in a couple of months, I will be wearing them. But there is no denying that it's still 90 degrees today.
I have found 2 sweaters that fit the bill of what I'm looking for this fall season. I found them a couple weeks back but am revisiting them today after reviewing my last end of year needs on my list. The temptation to buy them now is big. BUT . . . is it really wise? They will definitely not see a moment of wear here in FL. It will have to be after my move most definitely.
Is a bird in the hand worth 2 in the bush or is moving somewhat bulky knits across the country an unnecessary thing to add to what I already have to move back? I'm either flying, with the BF driving the Juke, or we are both Juking, but either way, not tons of room after we fit in the TV and cat.
I should add that I have already purchased the bulkier anorak from H&M and the zip back flannel. Neither of them will be worn until I move back either.

I'm a nay. I have learned to stop shopping for a climate I don't have, even if its for a vacation that I will take. The exception has to be so painful that I can't leave it behind. Since I've laid down that rule, nothing has passed the test so far.

Is that mesh sweater really wearable in CO? The other one looks cute and cozy.

What Emily said. I have to gauge my risk tolerance vs. how much I love an item. If it sold out, would I be really disappointed? Is it unique enough that it sticks in my brain? I think the ombre one is unusual enough that it might be hard to find something similar if you wait until it's gone.

Una, actually Tahoe is a temperate snowy environment if that makes sense. Really COLD like AK only a week or two out of the year.
I am so ambivalent about this, because I bounce from one climate extreme to another at a moment's notice.
I bought the Allsaints shearling jacket with Rae's help two FL trips ago and have only gotten 2 wears out of it so far It would be so much easier if I knew where I would be living and for how long . . .

I can't imagine your frustration. I had to get over shopping for a summer climate but that's because I don't have one. The going back and forth would make me crazy.

I vote pounce. Although, I am proud of my Austerity August performance, I did miss out on a HEWI that got sold out. Agree that it depends on how disappointed you would be if it sold out or if you saw it on sale for half the price.

BTW, It seems like you have your seasons wrong - shouldn't you be at Tahoe in summer and Florida in winter? That sounds better. Although Tahoe year round sounds best, skipping Florida altogether!

Sterling you have a very valid point. Not to mention, all the sweaters that have been tucked away since winter 2012 will be 'new' to me again.
That said, I KNOW I want an open knit crew, or boat neck, long sleeved sweater this season. I had one I loved 15 or so years ago but it was in that cropped late 90's fashion, complete with bell sleeves, and I had to purge it. So sad, lol.
I'm keeping a watchful eye on the Mango sweater but abstaining for now.

Are your *wear withs* in Tahoe? One thing I've noticed with my purchases is that even if it fits, the proportions might not be 100% right with the other item(s) I planned to pair it with. YMMV, however.

I have 3 pants here with me in FL since my visit home in March when I dumped most of the warmer clothing back into my closet. So I could try it on with my skinny white jeans, red motos, or Cameron BF's. Oh, and most of my skirts. That should run the gamut of types bottoms I'm likely to pair with.

JAileen we cross posted and I missed yours. YES, I am a reverse snowbird. SO STUPID!!! I would love nothing more than year 'round Tahoe. Alas the $$$ lies here in FL for the BF's work. Hence our quandary.

I think you have come to the right conclusion....in most cases when I have this dilemma and I wait I never think about the piece again...there will be more knitwear.

Mo - you know, a LOT of the knitwear goes on sale around Christmas and then in January. If you think these things have a good chance of still being around I would wait. However, if you are madly in love with these 2 tops (have you seen them in person and tried them on?) I'd probably pounce. Are you doing a one-in one-out on your knitwear? If so, do you know which pieces you would get rid of?

P.S. I'm in tanks and shorts today too! We're having a HOT spell!

Ooooh usually I'd say pounce, but in this case I think I'll go with wait. Marley has a good point about things going on sale. Plus by the time you get back you might change your mind. Tough one though.

Haven't read the other responses, but my inclination is toward nay. Moving is difficult enough without having to take extra. The only reason I would buy is if (1) you are very hard to fit, and you have to give serious consideration to being low on sweaters if you don't buy these, or (2) these sweaters have certain design elements that you have been looking for for a long time—in other words, they're HEWIs. Otherwise, I vote nay.

Mo, money is important. That's why we don't live at Tahoe (Tahoe City) anymore, either. The weather is glorious in summer, but too many people then and in winter. The shoulder seasons are nice because everything is uncrowded. Of course the tourists keep everyone employed, so they're a necessary evil, I guess.
