Wildcard: big shirt

My first wildcard purchase of 2015: LOFT softened shirt, which is not showing up online for some reason.

I may regret this, but we shall see... something about this shirt tickled my fancy, despite it being very NOT me. I don't do crisp cotton shirts. I don't do high necklines like this.

Maybe I am liking it simply because it conceals excess weight? Maybe I'm liking this because it's just so different? I am not sure why I like this. Have I lost my mind?

What do you think?

How would you style it? In particular, I feel like it needs some jewelry - a necklace? what sort? (Also needs a heel ... shown here with relatively flat booties.) Does it need alterations to shorten a tad and take out some of the volume?

It's a very interesting shirt. The only think I'd working about with shortening it and taking some of the volume out would be how it affects the shape, if that makes sense. I like it on you because it's very different. I think it would work best with slimmer pants and heels. Im not sure how a necklace would work with it, but I think earrings and a bracelet would work well.

I agree with KL, I wouldn't shorten it. Skinny pants and heels would be a way to go. I would even layer a cropped looser sweater over it.
It looks good on you, a nice change!

KL, I don't think I could wear slimmer pants than these! Well, I guess leggings would be slimmer. But yes, I agree I totally need heels with this. Or if I want to wear it with flats like shown then it needs to be taken up just a pinch. Then again, perhaps I should just view this as "flattering enough" and not care about any leg-shortening effect?

I also thought it might be fun to have a tailor add slits on the side, through which a belt could be threaded, so it would be belted in the front (to reign in some of the volume) but then the back of the shirt would cover the belt in the back.

Tanya, thanks! I did try it (in the store) with a cardigan over it. I think it might be cute with a cropped cardigan. Still need to experiment with that.

Phew! I am glad you love it, Angie!!! That definitely gives me more confidence, seeing as I have yet to take off the tags....

I thought of you when I bought this. It looks cute buttoned all the way to the top, which is totally not my usual thing.

There was also something about this shirt that reminded me of a Big Shirt I owned way back in high school in the 80s. That one had a collar, I would wear it buttoned all the way up, with a brooch at the top. It was not asymmetrical though.

I love it on you. I think it can totally work with a slightly higher heel. You can wear a jacket over it too. Nice find!

Okay I have one now thanks to you! I got the small because it just had a little more length in the front than the xs. I love the back of it and the high/low hem.It's such a cool take on a classic and I haven't seen anything like it. It looked so cute on you I was pretty sure I could work the volume too. When I tried it on I had on my EF skirted leggings and black ballet flats with silver studs.

I wish it had a more traditional collar though. I don't usually do collarless.

I agree it does need a heel or heeled boot. maybe something with a chunkier heel to balance out the visual weight on the top (white plus big cut). I thought it would be really cool with a pair of leather leggings or black coated denim.

With something this risky you have to show that you know what you are doing with your styling! Otherwise you could end up in Maternity territory.

I love it just as it is! This is an awesome new style of big shirt, boxy, high-low, and so flattering in its cool oversized way. It looks great with the slim pants you're wearing and the short boots. Does not need heels, though you could wear them if you want. It would work well over a slim skirt, too. It may not feel like your style, but you look at ease in it, and I think it goes with your hairstyle and overall look.

I love the shape and length on you as is, and I think it's good with those black pants & short boots. Try unbuttoning one more button, and "filling in" with a necklace of big shiny gold links or dangling charms? I just ordered a top with similar Watteau-type volume at the back; it's an interesting modern silhouette, I think!

shiny, very late to this post, but i bought a similar wildcard late in the fall. i think what i like about it is that its different from what i normally wear, but the length and volume made me comfortable, so that i didn't feel like i was being confined. so far, i've mostly worn it layered under sweaters, but i'm looking forward to spring and wearing it by it self.

Karymk, I want to see it on you! And yes, I know... maternity. My belly is such I look pregnant these days anyway, so I don't care. I also don't usually do collarless, but surprisingly, I liked it buttoned all the way to the top. Especially with my hair as short as it is right now. And last night I tried it on with the skirted leggings. Like minds! DH did not like the outfit, but I often ignore him. Ha. I am not sure, but I am leaning towards preferring it with leggings or skinnies. I think this would be cute with metallic loafers.

Mona, as Karymk says, it's not on the site yet. I don't know what it is about the mall I frequent, but it seems to get advanced shipments of a lot of stuff. Perhaps it's a test store? Because I got this well over a week ago. The SA said they'd just come in (they were hanging near the front, not in the box). I've been looking for it online so I could grab the image for my electronic wardrobe inventory. On the same day I bought a few items from BR that are also still not yet showing under "new arrivals."

Tulle, yes, I keep thinking this needs a necklace, as you've described, or a long pendant. Otherwise, I'm leaning towards keeping it very simple and letting the shirt be the star of the show.

Deborah, I thought of you too when I bought this!! I thought, this is something Deborah would wear! You know that I adore your style.

Kkards, not sure I'll be able to layer a sweater over this, as it's quite voluminous. I will try, but it may ultimately have to stand alone.

Also just wanted to add that I was wearing a white cami underneath this when I tried it on in the store. In case anyone was wondering whether that was part of the design, as I am seeing a lot of tops like that as a design feature. I'm not sure what this is called? It's like color blocking but in the same color? Like this -

It's a gorgeous shirt, and I like it exactly as it is. I've been looking at a similar style in the COS store.

Love it, BUT KEEP the length, pls!! Maybe only take in a bit on the sides, bust areea, for some more flaterry if you want that feelin'. But keep the A line towards the hem! Great shirt, can also peak out from under a darker blazer, if you want more structure to it! Esp love the dramatic high-low! Can't wait to see them styled(shiny+karymk).

Don't take in the sides Shiny because when you put your arms down it all settles where it is supposed to be. I like it on you better, maybe its the short hair or your bottom pieces.
