Wide Leg Pant Style

My wide leg pants from GAP arrived a few days ago. I had ordered two pair, one in the size I usually wear and one sized up. My usual size fit perfectly. We are well into spring where I live with temperatures from 70 to 90 F, so I used tees, toppers, and sandals to make them work for outside and indoor air conditioning. DH says they make me look stocky and prefers me in skinny jeans. I agree but since they are comfortable and with the wide legs cooler than skinnies, I plan to wear them casually. I think they're JFE. The green top is new and is really a shirt jacket but I decided to try it as a top. One tee is also new and the rest of the items were in my closet. Suggestions and comments are welcome. Do you agree with DH or are the pants JFE?

I like the pants! Your Keith Haring tees are terrific! Good graphic tees are hard to find, and you seem to have a knack for doing so.
I am ever-so-slightly less fond of #2, the longer tops and jackets seem to work better with these particular pants.

LOVE. And all these renditions are fab. I particularly like the proportions of #2 and #5. Short or long on top works best with wide crops to my eye.

Bonnie you have a great eye for graphic tees. I love the ones you have picked out. I like all the renditions. It can take some time to get use to new looks but I think you look more than JFE.

Much better than JFE, Bonnie. I love these on you, especially with a column of colour underneath. Also, I agree that the wider legs will be nice and cool when the temperature rises.

Absolutely better than JFE. The only outfit I'm not keen on is #1, the proportions of that top (at least closed... would probably be fine open, given #3 works) are not as good as the others, IMHO.

I think #3 is more than JFE, it looks great. The tonal aspect between the topper and pants works well. I also like #2. I agree this is a breezier look than skinnies.

Oh, Bonnie, how I love your WIWs. Is there anything that doesn't work on you? If so, you must not buy it. Because whatever you put on seems to be just perfect.

I love all of these looks, and I think I might need that Keith Haring clock-head tee! I really love how it looks. (Plus, the image just hits so close to home!!).

I love the color of the jacket in #1 on you, and I actually like the look of the jacket buttoned up with those pants .... but I can also see how it might work slightly better opened, ideally over either KH tee.

I have to also comment that I am amazed at your photography and ability to stand and look exactly the same in every photo. If I flip quickly from look to look, it's as if you magically change from outfit to outfit!

I love them all, including the "stocky" #1. Yes, I see the non-optimal proportions there. But "stocky" is a look I've been enjoying with some mom-jeans (that felt too comfortable not to take home to try, then rang up at $0.01) and untucked men's dress shirts. Intentional conventional-unflattery can be a good look in its own way.

StyleFan: Thank you. It does take time, especially when the look is not particularly flattering to someone who is short, high waisted, and a bit pear shaped.

viva: Thank you. There are plenty of failed outfits and that's why taking photos is so important for me. It's gotten so that I won't wear anything until I've photographed it. It is kind of weird how I look the same in most photos. You are very kind.

I like it best with #1 and #4 - 1 for the shape, and 4 for the color contrast with the pants. Very cute!

I think you look great! If I saw you walking down the street in any of those outfits I wouldn't think "stocky," I'd think "wow, she pulls those off so well! I wonder if I could do that?" You've inspired me!

Great pants and much better than JFE because everything you have put them with looks great. I love these on you and think they will be much more comfortable than skinny jeans in warm weather.

Bonnie, I think you've mastered this difficult proportion as well as anyone I've seen. Every one of these looks is a winner, and believe me, I'm taking notes! I love the way those chunky sandals balance the added width, and I really want that graphic tee!

tulle: Thank you. This is a difficult proportion for my pearish shape. Angie mentioned she like long or short tops over the wide legs so I tried some today and may post them another time.

No, I disagree with your DH: you do not look stocky at all! You have looooong legs and that is still apparent in these pants.
I think all the outfits are great but my favourite is the one with the orange jacket (4). I like those colours best.

My husband has the same preference for skinny jeans.

I like all the looks you've put together -- and I like that rust colored jacket a lot, just in general. I also find that the black platform sandals ground the wide pants very well.

I do NOT think they make you look stocky--I think they are more than JFE and you've styled them attractively. The sandals are a really nice complement to the pants.

These looks terrific on you. In terms of traditional flattery, I think #3 creates a long line because the darker shirt sort of blends with the jeans. But these are plenty JFE+ without that consideration.
