Who is still scared of tucking their tops into jeans/trousers?

Not that you need to tuck! Just trying to help solve these challenges if I can.

(I happen to have tucked my top into my belted Long & Leans today so it's on my mind).

Me! I think I might be long waisted...whenever I tuck into my existing jeans it looks completely ridiculous.

I have no waist, and the cellulite makes it hard to feel svelte. Plus I still don't know what high and low/short and long waisted really mean, but I know I can rarely find a sweet spot to belt. I do like tucking and belting on low-rise jeans that fall way below my belly button.

But I am happy to try anything you suggest, as always!

I used to tuck, back in the day, so am not scared but with a flabbier belly I think a blousier top will look better than a sleek one. Just haven't tried it yet to know ...

Hmm.

I don't like the use of the word "scared" because it makes it sound like it's an irrational fear. I just don't like how I look with tops tucked in so I don't do it. Sometimes things just don't look good on you and you have to move on and accept it. Not everyone can make everything work. C'est la vie.

Ticks, can you be more specific? Long-waisted body types are supposed to tuck. Maybe the pants you're tucking into don't have a high enough rise.

Angie I have just found Tanya's wide legged look for Kyle, it's fab and I would never have thought to try it. I have some wide leg jeans so will give it a go x

OK, then maybe it's the no-waistedness. I'm not sure. Here is a photo to illustrate, though this isn't the best example because I tried tucking only the front, and the sides hanging out make my waist look a mile wide. And the horizontal stripes aren't helping. Or the jeans. Or the pose.

ETA: Maya, I just read the rest of your post, and I think you're right about the rise. I know I've seen people tuck shirts into low rise jeans and look fine, but clearly I am not one of them.

Not scared exactly, but I don't think it is the most balanced, flattering look on me. I am tall, but with an average to petite shoulder-to-waist length (i.e., very high- or short-waisted), so my legs end up looking freakishly long when I choose to tuck in a top. That is sometimes okay, but not as easy a slam dunk as it sounds.

I'm also not sure scared is the right word, I just don't know when it looks better, and so I don't usually do it. I tuck into dress pants and skirts almost all the time, but I don't usually tuck into jeans, especially not skinnies. Should I?

I have thick thighs, and tucking makes that visible. I can't stand the "v" that can be seen when I tuck my tops into pants, and even untucked shirts have to be long enough to cover that area. I have no issues tucking into skirts, though with my weight being mostly around my waist, I don't do that often either. I don't know if its a mental hang-up or what, but I try to create a longer, unbroken line in my outfits, a line that usually skims over my midsection and makes me feel (mentally) svelte. Tucking cuts that line up and makes it harder for me to fool myself. Does that make sense at all?

I feel that when I show all my midlle section my hips look even wider.Also I'm not very sure of how high I should go so that the jeans don't look like mommy jeans.

I hear you, and many of your reasons for not tucking make perfect sense. Tucking into waisted skirts is MUCH easier for those who are self conscious about their tummies and thighs. It's quite girdling tucking into a skirt actually.

Tiketsgirl, tucking into high waisted pants shortens a long torso - long waisted Tanya does this successfully all the time.

Short waisted gals, you need to tuck and belt into lower rise jeans. Not LOW RISE, just a lower rise.

Christie, good point about the blousy tops being more forgiving when tucked. Cathy (cciele) recently did just that with a lower rise and she looked fabulous.

Kate, no need to tuck into skinnies!

Celia, I think if your outfit looks hip and current, you won't look like you're wearing "Mom jeans".

Short-waisted me is feeling somewhat trepidatious about tucking ... but a blousy top and lower rise jeans (thinking of Cathy, that was a fab look on her) could work.

What kind of belts are in right now? For tucking into jeans you need something wider than a skinny belt, yes? And do you go with a color or a neutral?

Laura, I like wider leather belts with the look. I'm wearing a 1.5 inch wide black belt with my jeans and tucked in top as I type. But earth toned belts are also fab - very 70's. I have a stained floral belt on the way.

Angie, when you say there is no need to tuck with skinnies, do you mean you *shouldn't * because it looks bad? I am a long time tucker-especially with bootcuts, I've always felt a touch sloppy with my shirts un-tucked. NOT saying that anyone else looks sloppy untucked, just that I feel that I do.

the other thing with tucking is that it's rather fussy. The top has to be just the right length, otherwise it tends to come out, or it shifts around, etc. Men's shirts I guess are designed with the right length and amount of fabric around to get around this problem.

Okay, I STILL don't understand how to tell if I am short or long-waisted, even after reading Angie's posts. And I still don't know what high and low-waisted mean either. I am HOPELESS...

I will tuck into skirts, but I don't really have tummy or thigh issues. I just think it's more balanced. The top-to-bottom ratio is more like 1:2 instead of 1:4.

If I tried to tuck into a lower rise, I'd get crazy muffin top. I don't really have tummy issues anymore, but I'm high-waisted and it would cut across the widest part of my torso. Ick. Who wants that?

I still haven't really come around to belting at the waist--and everyone knows I gave it a concerted effort so you can't say I didn't give it my best shot! I doubt I'll come around to tucking for the same reasons.

Me - not that I can tuck around a pregnant belly, nor will I be tucking post-partum due to expected flabby skin and pregnancy weight gain.

Aside from pregnancy factors, I probably wouldn't anyway - even at my most slim. I am far too short-waisted and have always had a slightly rounded belly that I wouldn't want to poke out while seated. My body type just isn't suited to this style of dressing.

I'm not fond of tucking on myself. I'm short waisted, but tucking into a lower rise pants means that I am not highlighting my small waist, but my much larger abdomen. I'll probably pass on the look, since I have such an affinity for tunics anyway.

I've been tucking a lot lately without noticing the trend. It just feels right with the cut of my clothes currently. I like the look best with button downs and roomy blouses and not fitting tops, but I tucked in a cashmere cardigan last week.
