Hi,
Found YLF while searching for interesting and relatable fashion blogs. Glad I found YLF!

I'm mid-fifties, and my challenge is returning to work this summer after over a year in an arduous treatment process for a health situation. Fortunately I seam to be recovering well. I look forward to wearing REAL clothes again after a long time in either hospital gowns or comfy sweats. My workplace is biz casual (but not too - no jeans or khakis). I've recently splurged on some of the new midi skirts - a big change for me as a dedicated pants person.

Looking forward to sharing fashion-for-work ideas with the YLF community!

Hello, a friend on a hobby forum referred me here.

I am recently 50 and have finally managed to gain some much needed weight so I need to buy some clothes, but whenever I go shopping I wind up hating everything or wanting something that I know people would laugh at if I wore it in public.

It's an embarrassing problem. I also have some baggage with controlling relatives and abusive partners that makes me a bit defensive and a lot of contradictory desires--I am not at a place in my life where I am comfortable having random strangers point and laugh or even walk up to me and say, "Wow, Where do you get that? I wish i had the courage to wear something so unusual and colourful at your age! You must be very brave not to care what other people think!" but I don't want to be in a constant state of discomfort from tight clothing or to look in the mirror and see something I hate.

Hello all. I found ylf searching for inspiring fashion blogs and I love it.

I'm in my 50s and a scientist working in academia. I have a lot of freedom in my work attire but sometimes I get stuck in a rut. My wardrobe is overflowing with clothes, shoes and accessories but sometimes I just don't know how to put it all together...so I buy more clothes shoes and accessories, when I really should be shopping my own wardrobe. Ha! I'm hoping to get lots of inspiration here. I like to be creative with my style so I'm pretty much open anything, but I also don't want to look like I'm trying too hard.

I can really relate to what you said about not wanting to look like you are trying too hard. Yet, coming up with a not over-dressed, but also not sloppy, business casual outfit each morning seems elusive no matter how hard i try. Hoping you all on here can show me an easier way.

Hi everyone. I just turned fifty and have spent the last two years struggling with a back problem that made me miserable, mostly immobile and....completely un-shopable.

Now I'm feeling fine but have nothing to wear for spring and summer other than what I had before my injury....lots of lululemon. I appreciate all the information around here. I really need it!

Hello ladies, I am still very new to this site and I am enjoying navigating my way around it. I will be turning 26 next month and I am currently an administrative assistant ant a vegetable processing plant. I have a BA in English and I hope to someday pursue a career oriented in the arts in some way. My office is extremely lenient in what I wear so I am able to experiment mostly as I please. I tend to prefer a very sweet, romantic, uber feminine style, but I'm still trying to figure out how exactly to piece it all together. I don't have a particularly strong self image and I realize I tend to use beautiful clothes as a way of making myself feel beautiful as well.

Hi ladies! I am a 39 year old empty nester. I took a couple years break from my career, and am easing back into the workforce. Even better, I am in the middle of a huge purge, which I am documenting on my blog "my 99 hangers". That's my new limit. Hope it lasts!

Style wise, I feel like I have multiple personalities. (If you follow Dress your Truth I am a 1. Or a 4. Maybe a 3... Depending on the day.) Some days country, some days retro, some days contemporary... It is going to be interesting satisfying my desires with fewer possessions.

MK

Hello! I'm new here but have been reading the blog for about 6 months. I'm enjoying trying some of Angie's picks as well as items that have been mentioned on this forum. I am a senior administrator and professor at a large university in the Midwest. I have to dress very conservative.

I am so excited to have found this site. I love fashion but have a hard time coming up with outfits and being on a 3 kid budget doesn't help.
I am returning to work after 6 months off from a layoff. The office is business casual. Looking forward to all the outfits and advice.

Hi, I'm Wendy, 39, and a single mom living in Seattle with my Kindergartener. I used to live in San Francisco, where I made jewelry, ran my own massage practice while also freelancing as a Professional Organizer, gardened, and was totally obsessed with urban & wild foraging and urban homesteading (raising chickens, gardening, canning, curing, dehydrating, slow food, making my own medicinal tinctures and teas). I wore lots of casual simple clothing either in black or solid bright colors that didn't get in the way of creating, moving, or climbing trees, or cooking. I often did a lot of layering (leg warmers, arm warmers, scarves, dresses over pants, short skirts over leggings, hoodies) and statement jewelry or hats when I wasn't working. I currently work in a retail environment that is youthful and casual and mostly wear jeans with casual shirts and sweaters. I spend a lot of time outdoors and going to places that are casual and daytime and nighttime activities are usually small social gatherings that don't involve dressing up. Based on other people's statements, I look like I'm in my late 20s to early 30s. I am on YLF because I am looking to go back to work in an office environment and have a wedding to attend soon. I feel like I'm wearing ill-fitted funeral attire when I try to dress for an interview or put together some professional looking outfits. Most of my fancier dresses look like I'm heading out to a club or seem too casual for for the type of wedding I am going to - I went to the bridal shower and the ladies all had on what I consider to be prom-style dresses with high heels, styled hair, and full make-up (with some false eyelashes thrown in the mix with a few of the ladies). I consider my long hair styled when it is clean and brushed; I don't own liquid foundation, powder, blush, or more than one tube of (almost) lipstick. So some style update help is in order!

Hi! My name is Juny, and I just moved to Seattle from Houston. I am happily married and a mother to a lovely six month old baby girl. I first found out about YLF several years ago, but I never really signed up to be a member until today! My career has always been in apparel, and I currently work in corporate for a nationwide clothing retailer. I think being a member will help me continue developing my style and meet friends based on similar interest - fashion!
I would say my style is evolving towards effortless chic and minimalist. I appreciate quality materials and unique details. I don't like to be fussy when it comes to fashion.
Nice to meet everyone!

Hi everyone! My name is Kara. I'm 32, married to a US Marine, mother of a wonderful 9 year old daughter. I've been a server & bartender for most of my adult life, but just took a leap of faith and started my own business from home designing boho-inspired wrap bracelets and accessories.

As far as fashion goes, I love all things boho, earthy, floral, lacy, and feminine. I'm 5'4" with an hourglass shape... I struggle with being a bit top-heavy for most of the cute tops and dresses that I really wish I could wear!

I'm excited to have found YLF and can't wait to become a part of this community

Hi everyone my name is Daniela Cheeseman. I am 35 years old and have a very eclectic fashion sense. I work in jewelry so I'm continually bombarded by new trends.

I love designers well known and unknown and am in the fashion hub of NYC. I'm really happy to join the community to talk jewelry and fashion trends. Fav new trend if the season is tassel necklaces. Favorite clothing designers are m missoni, Emilio Pucci. My fav stores are Zara n mom n pop boutiques. Love exchanging ideas and meeting new people.

Hi,
I'm a 37-year old mother of two and professional who lives in a hot&sticky + bitterly cold environment, and works in an air-conditioned office.

My style story is that, over the past year, I've tried to put together two capsule wardrobes (winter and summer) that included a 'uniform' . I've had moderate success with this: I really like my colour scheme, but I found the one-silhouette uniform a little boring. Even though I had a great number of tops and bottoms, it sorta felt like I was wearing the same thing every day because the silhouette was the same.

I'd like to spice it up.

I can't wait for the 3 days to elapse so I can see others' posts on this forum!

Will be posting soon about my body type!
Thanks for reading

Righto. I actually joined this forum a few weeks ago and haven't posted yet as I normally trawl around it while breastfeeding and typing at the same time is a pain. But I am going nuts to see everyone's photos so I need to post! I live in Tasmania, Australia. I have three children, an arts degree and an IT work history. I am interested in clothes and looking my best and wandered onto YLF some time last year, since then I have become a regular stalker. I love Angie's outfits, particularly her graphic white outs of a while ago! She sold me on white jeans! I am a short small boned but moderately muscly (with a bit of fat) hourglass. As far as colouring goes I am a light spring. I think it was getting my colours done while I was in South Africa (I am also married to an SA export) that really honed my interest in clothes and their power. I had been diagnosed as a summer in passing by someone when I was in my teens and spent years aiming to wear muted blues and greys and pinks, and looking dead. I just thought I had terrible skin. When the consultant in SA showed me lime green and apricot I was stunned and I loved it. So there we are. Looking forward to lots of ylf fun!

Hi everyone: I've been following YLF for a year now and finally decided I'd like to join in - everyone seems so nice and helpful. My body shape is something between a rectangle and a figure 8 but I have a short torso which makes it hard for me to achieve that long lean line I aspire to. I love Angie's outfits and advice and try to copy them with varying success. I've added 3 pairs of white pants (jeans, cropped pants, and jean shorts) in the last year and have found that I wear them constantly. I'm retired and older but am not letting that keep me from wearing what I like - I've lost that last 10 hard to get rid of pounds in the last year so it's been fun replacing my clothes with a smaller size. I'm looking forward to seeing the members photos and interpretations of Angie's advice and outfits.

Hi everyone
I've been following the blog for a year or so but have only just discovered the forum (how did I miss it??). I'm in the UK and am mid forties with a young child and kind of lost my way with my appearance in the first years of motherhood, so over the last year, I've been trying to get my mojo back. I've also put on a bit of weight which has made this a bit harder. Being my age with a 4 year old, I feel rather aged next to most of the other mothers I come across at nursery etc.
I really like Angie's analytical nature and descriptions about why some clothes work and some don't - I've always been mindful of my shape and colouring but still have much to learn. I've recently decided that I think I'm an inverted triangle (rather than a rectangle) but maybe with a tendency to appleness too. I'm tall too.
I look forward to exploring the forum and picking up some tips and advice from you all

Hi Guys!

I discovered YLF a few days ago. I am a 22 year old college student who grew up in the Czech Republic and moved back to the US for school. In Czech I studied Illustration, but am currently studying English Lit. and Secondary Education.

I have been really loving the community on this site. It is geared toward encouragement and helping one another be creative.

Hi Everyone,

I came across YLF more than a year ago and finally decided I'd like to join in too.

I'm 31 years old and I live in India. I've been married for almost 8 years and am mom to 2 beautiful dogs. I'm an architect and interior designer, but about 3 years back I made a career move and started to work from home. I'm very passionate about health and wellness and I work for a variety of magazines writing articles on health, fitness, wellness, lifestyle and interior decor. I love to blog myself and write 3 blogs of my own

I'm 5'3" and a defined hourglass. My biggest challenge is my gigantic boobs (I'm a 34F) and I find that all my styling problems begin there! I like a classic, feminine but comfortable dressing style, though I am irresistibly drawn to all power dressing looks ---- think pencil dresses, front slit pencil skirts with a fitted blouse, anything with peplum and anything belted. I love fit and flare dresses and coats a lot too. My favourite colours are black, grey, navy, red and purple. I love floral prints and deep necklines the most for summer, and rich solid colors in winters. I like my clothes, shoes and handbags to be classics and don't experiment much with color. I bring color n texture into my outfits using scarves or jewelry.

I'm addicted to handbags and constantly grow my collection. I have to confess I'm also bit of a shopaholic, though I'm trying to make amends there. I love anything and everything pretty and find shoes, bags and dreads the hardest to resist.

It's great to join YLF finally! I look forward to getting to know you all soon!

I see that there have been some recent new members so I thought I should tell a bit about myself too. I'm a northerner(U.S.) so I experience the four seasons quite distinctly. I've been reading YLF for a few months now and have enjoyed it immensely. I never paid all that much attention to fashion until more recently. I liked clothes and shopping, but I guess I just didn't get into fashion magazines. But now with the great style blogs out there it's so fun to get ideas from real people.

As a stay-at-home mom, my lifestyle is very casual. I tend to lean fairly bohemian (but not head-to-toe boho). But I've also found myself wanting to add a little more edge and even a bit more of an elegant, streamlined look on occasion. In my mid-forties I'm finding I rather enjoy taking a bit of a risk with my style and have found a lot of inspiration from Angie and all of you stylish contributors.

I look forward to getting to know you!

Hi, I put quite a bit of detail into my profile, but basically I'm really interested in subversive fashion. I'm an art student and I'm learning to sew because I have a lot of trouble finding things I like. Being especially drawn to elements that most people dislike makes it hard to find clothes, since brands don't make clothes most people will consider ugly. It's tough.

I do like things that are considered stylish by others too, but even then I'm very particular and don't like much of what's on sale.

There are basically three looks I aspire to (usually one at a time for a few weeks, then I cycle on to the next) - sporty chic, understated feminine, and eerie dancing changeling.

I'm really excited to be a part of the community here!

Hi everyone! I've been avidly following YLF for years, ever since I went searching for local fashion inspiration ahead of a move to Seattle way back in 2007. I spent four years there before moving back to Colorado a few years ago.

I've been collecting my wardrobe in Finds and finally decided to start posting because of the change that allowed me to see all your wonderful photos without being an active member. All your outfits are really inspirational!

I'm in my early-40s now and struggling to match my wardrobe with my lifestyle. My son is just starting high school, so I'm not really a MotG anymore, but I mostly work from home, with the exception of several craft shows and a conference or two each year (I'm a maker and writer). We live an outdoorsy, active, casual life, but I'm happiest in pretty heels and a cute dress.

Looking forward to getting to know you better!

Hi, I´m new here, I love fashion, books and travel so I´m sure that this is the right place to exchange ideas, fashion tips and great shopping.
My name is Penelope, I´m housewife who enjoy knit and crochet and also made handmade items, I always looking to have a wardrobe with the essentials but at the same time to have a little of everything, in case I need beige, black or gray, to me that are the areas to have a nice wardrobe combination.
Happy to be here!
Thank you

Hello everyone! I'm Irina. I live in Toronto, Canada. I've been reading this blog a while and absolutely love it! I've been looking for not only inspiration but some practical advice on how to build one's wardrobe. And I've found it here and more. That's my goal - to take my "good enough" wardrobe to ehhh.... "great" level. One can dream...
I'm turning 50 this year, so it's about time I figure how to dress myself well :)))))

Hi, my name is May. I'm new here. I live in Chicago with my husband and 2 year old daughter. I work in finance - nothing too exciting. Haha.

I love fashion - I tend to shop too much....but it seems like I pick the same things over and over again so this site is great inspiration for me to open up to try new things. I'm looking forward to meeting you guys!

Hello everyone,

I am new here, and still learning my way around.

I have been reading this site occasionally in the past years. I've been on a re-learn my own style process for few years, and reading quite a bit around the web.

I am approaching the big 4-0, and I think I have a some kind of an age crisis, ha ha. That has contributed quite a bit to my current quest. That, and a complex life situation that lasted several years, that left me very out of touch with my style, both mentally and physically.

I'm so new that I'm not yet familiar with usual protocols of this site. I guess I could list some things about me.

- In from North Europe. We have 4 distinct seasons, and our warm season is relatively short. This affects my clothing choises a lot.

- I lead a relatively active lifestyle, compared to many North Americans. I walk a lot, bike a lot and don't have a car. Combined with the previous pointer, these two affect my outfits quite a bit.

- I am currently a student, but hopefully will graduate later this year or at the latest, early 2016.

- I am relatively tall, 174 cm (if I recall correctly, that's 5 feet 8 inches). I am also relatively slender.

- My body is hourglass-ish. This is measured shoulders, waist, widest point at hips. If I'd measure bust-waist-hip, then I would be pear.

- my main "problem" area is that when looked from the back, I carry my weight at the high hip to buttock region. This area looks out a of proportion heavy, and it's my main focus usually to find ways to flatter this area. From front my hips are not heavy looking. My hips are what some other sites call figure-8 hips, or cello hips. This means my hip bones form a sort of shelf right under waist, and this gives a boxy look to the hip area.

- I have slightly longer upper body than legs, although my legs are still quite long and I often buy 34" inseams in jeans, for example. I often try to make my legs appear longer.

- I have short waist, but since I am so tall all and all, many times a shaped shirt off the rack has its waist too high for me. My waist is very well defined, and I love some waist shaping. But rarely I can cinch in the waist fully, because on most outfits that would accentuate my heavy hip area.

- I also have long rise. Combine heavy, boxy hips, long rise and short waist and slightly shorter legs, you can see how my problem area is a bit difficult to deal with. Most of my torso length is at the rise and at the bust to chin area. I would love to lean more about how to flatter my body type.

- I like a capsule-ish, more minimalist approach to my wardrobe and style.

- I like clean lines, comfortable clothes that feel nice, functionality. I am not feminine, but more androgynous in my style. I love certain rock and roll touches. I love love love black colour, and in addition to it, I have only few colours that make my wardrobe colour scheme (dark blue, olive, wine red mostly). I would love to have some help with putting my style into words, as it escapes me (partially a language issue).

- I have been on Pinterest for years, and have several style boards. Interestingly not once I have found other people whose boards would have been 100% like "me". Similarly, the current fashion has not been "me" for several years now, and I have difficulties finding clothes that I like.

- Goals: visually longer legs, balancing upper body ratios, flattering
the back view of my hips area, re-finding and refining my own style,
finding pieces that work together.

Oh my, I hope I didn't go into too many details in this intro post.

Hi -

I have followed ylf for quite some time and love the style advice!

I live in New Zealand for now, which is not really on top of the list when it comes to shopping and fashion - shorts, tee, and crocs will be fine everywhere!
I live together with husband, dog and cats , full of wanderlust, trying to travel as much as I can.

I'll turn 50 in a few months and am absolutely over wishing to look different - my hope for the next decades is to be finished with wanting thinner thighs. Or.

Malin

Hi - I'm Lisa,
...and so glad I stumbled on this place!
I have always loved fashion and design and recently woke up to find myself on the wrong side of 30 with 2 kids,a very outdated wardrobe, a very small budget, a new shape and no idea how to dress it!

It feels like the last 10 years have left my personal style behind,
so I'm here on a journey of discovery ( whenever the 18 month old sleeps!)
