Which size? New Plaid Shirt - YouLookFab Forum

So my new purchases are slowly rolling in, and I mean slowly, because I only made two so far. The plaid shirt from Nordstrom, which looks much better on the model than on me, and the J Crew Regency Blazer. I ordered two sizes of this Ralph Lauren Plaid Shirt, small and medium. I can't decide which I like better? The first two pics are the small, and the next two are the medium. So sorry about the wrinkles, I was too lazy to get out the iron. What do you think? The color is more like the pic from my finds, not my poor quality cell phone pics.

I also took a quick pic of my new blazer. It is a bit big around my torso, but the sleeves and shoulders fit and that's the important part. The local tailor can work wonders esp. since the shoulders fit. Please ignore the way I have styled this, because I was only modeling this to show how it fits. I wore the same blouse I had on today for work. It was 80 degree's outside - not wool blazer weather!

It is hard to tell with the background color, but I'm not sure I'm loving the color of this shirt on you, size aside. What do you think?

Also hard to tell with the blazer color. Definitely it's a little big, but if you can get that fixed then it's just a matter of whether it works for you.

I like the size small on the top, and the blazer looks like a good fit. The colors in both items look good on you!

I like the way that the medium fits best - a little more fluidity to it gives a more modern silhouette. I wouldn't roll those sleeves and button them though - rather just scrunch them and call it good!

The blazer is absolutely gorgeous! I love the neckline/collar! - and it's perfect for your neck! The only thing I'd want differently is for the color (surprise, surprise!) to have just a bit more depth to it!

ETA: I forgot to mention that I'm a little unsure about the colors of the plaid shirt on you - there is something about the muted colors that is just blending into your skin - again, I'd like to see a shirt in deeper colors.

ETA: Oh, I see that Una is thinking the same thing about the colors. Well, that makes me feel better! What do you think?

I prefer the larger size of the shirt, to be honest. I like a looser, more relaxed fit in a casual shirt. Like Una, I'm not really a fan of the colours on you though. A little washed- out looking . Blazer fit looks good through shoulder but big through the chest area. Is it special enough to warrant paying for an alteration? ( I mean in terms of being able to find something else you love)

i'm also not so sure about the colors of the shirt...but i think the small is a great size! blazer looks nice as well.

Staysfit - notice how the model's eyes, eyebrows, and hair are so much darker than yours? I think that's why it's looking better on her.

I'm not keen on the color of the shirt too. But I love that jacket! It seems like a good solid piece for you.

Marley,and Una, thanks for your candid feedback! I am also not convinced about these colors. It looks like there is some consensus about these colors being too muted and making me look washed out. I don't want to add anything to my wardrobe unless it is excellent. I think these shirts will both need to go back to Nordstrom. They are too muted. I will keep looking for another plaid shirt.

The good news is that I found someone within driving distance who can do personal color analysis. I set up an appointment and am going to see her in two weeks. I am sure that an in person analysis will help me more than the online version. I will let you know the results. Until then, I won't be making further purchases (except the Aquatalia Booties I loved, those will be in my closet soon!!)

I will probably return the blazer. I really like it, and am excited that it fits my arms and shoulders, but wish I could find something in a great color as well.

I think a cranberry or pine shade would be spectacular on you, and those are not hard to find in plaids.

I actually like YOU in this shirt WAY better than the model Staysfit. The small looks best. Perfect actually. And wow did you hit it right on with your coloring!

Karymk, what do you see that everyone else doesn't I wonder? Could it be that I'm wearing the shirt with dark wash jeans? Do you think I look washed out in this?

I'm back because I wanted to see what everyone else said - I'm glad I have an ally in Karymk, I still think the colors look good on you. I think the colors in the shirt pick up on the colors in your hair. It will be interesting to see what the color analyst says!

Small shirt but wrong colors. They're technically right but too much like your hair. Remember your blue- green scarf? So a plaid with colors and just an accent of russet would be fab.
I love the style of the jacket. It too might be too " like" hair coloring but OTOH it might still be a good neutral if jackets are hard to find in not- black, not- navy. Maybe do some retail research for color again and take some photos in other jackets in store( not for fit) before you decide. Pants in this color would be fab, though. So you're working out, what are my neutras + my colors overall or in general , and which best near- face colors.

I think it will be great to hear what you discover after your color analysis! I think the colors on the shirt are not your best, but with that said I prefer the small.

I have to agree with the colors not being great. I think the color is too similar to your coloring so it washes you out. Just my 2 cents.

I stumbled across this plaid shirt when I was looking for one for myself and thought that it might be something that would work for you. It may still not be the best for your coloring (too pinkish?) but it might be worth checking out!
