Which grey cardigan?

I am new, and this is my very first post, so: hello everyone!

I've been looking for a grey cardigan for layering (mostly at school). I noticed that Ann Taylor is offering 40% off of any one regular priced item for the next three days, so I took at look at their cardigans.

I am wondering if anyone thinks one of these is better than the other, or wants to recommend something else entirely:

Option A seems good, except I am worried that I would always have to wear it belted:

And I am worried that option B is a little too unstructured for me to be comfortable in, but it's hard for me to know because they only show it styled one way:

They are both beautiful. One is hand wash and one is machine wash, if that makes any difference in the decision.
I really like both equally. It could make a difference on how busty you are, which would work best for you.

Hi Melissa, welcome to the forum, could you share some thoughts on your body shape or post a picture of yourself? I'm not great at fit for body type but I know allot of people prefer the visual to make an informed decision.

I am basically an hourglass, carrying some "extra" weight in the tummy, thighs, and bust (38D-ish). I'll have a camera available at a work function this weekend, so I'll post some pictures over the weekend.

I can vouch for the second one . . . I originally bought it in grey and loved it so much I went back to buy the wine colored one. I love it with skinny jeans, and I've worn it open and belted. However, I'm also thinking about getting the first one you posted, so I think either one is great! Oh, and I don't think you would have to worry about always belting the first one. I think it would look great worn open, too.

Hello Melissa! What a coincidence -- I just bought the first cardigan in the aubergine color this evening. (I may return it, though; I was debating whether to wear it to a daytime wedding tomorrow and got it just in case.)

I'm with san -- I think your choice would depend in part on how much of your weight you carry on top. For me, I'd be worried that the cascading folds and the cutaway hem might make my top half look too broad. I must admit that I haven't really figured out how to style the open cardigan other than with a belt either; I took some photos tonight with the dress I was thinking of wearing tomorrow and realized that it does get a bit shapeless. In case it helps, here are the photos of the cardigan IRL, unbelted, worn over the Ann Taylor Ashlan dress by Wyeth in the same aubergine color. Sorry the color doesn't photograph well; it's definitely a dark purple with brown undertones in real life.

Oh, and the cardigan is actually on promo for $39.50, so I couldn't use the 40% discount on it (which would have made it $36 instead). Maybe you'll have better luck though!

Trix, the picture of you wearing the cardigan is really helpful, and that dress looks great on you.

I think I will probably wait to purchase a grey cardigan until I have the time to go and try stuff on.

I tried taking some pictures over the weekend to give people a better idea of my shape. Mostly, taking pictures made me realize that a lot of the things I wear that I thought were passable are not doing me any favors.
