When is short, short for slacks?

First of all, I am 5 foot 11 but with only a 30 inch inseam in slacks. This seems to be one of those in-between zones between average and short or petite lengths.

Is there any guideline for this? I've been dismayed too many times by buying something too short once I try it on. Holding it up to oneself doesn't always work either.

Thoughts, anyone?

Always try on slacks with the shoes you plan to wear with them. Angie's perfect pants length rule is that the back hem of the pants should fall no more than 1/4" above the floor with your shoes on. If you find that you fall between lengths available, buy the longer length and have them tailored to the perfect length.

Becky is right. I would try 31" because your shoes will probably have some kind of thick sole or heel, even if it's small. When you go pants shopping, wear the shoes that you plan to wear with the jeans. This will help ensure that the pants fit at the right length.

Also, wash your jeans in cold, and then let them air dry. Jeans will shrink 1"-2" in length over time if you dry them in a dryer.

Also, certain fabrics WILL shrink. So always launder your pants before you have them altered. And if you wash them in cold and hang them to dry, then have them altered, don't wash them in hot and pop them in the dryer. They can shrink more in hot water and from the heat of your dryer.
