what to wear when spring won't cooperate?!

So as I peruse everyone's blissfully springy wardrobe choices - we get another 3 inches of snow today!! - I am sick to death of my winter things and am ready for some wedges, some bare ankles, some short sleeves and dare I even breathe it......sandals!! I got the briefest taste this weekend of fine spring weather before the cold surrounded us again. It's April 15th and the high temp today was 33!! What do you do to keep yourself from going crazy when the weather just refuses to cooperate. sorry for the rant......

I started the day in pumps and ended it in socks and booties with a wool cardigan over a tee shirt. It's really not quite sandal weather yet, is it?

We've had a taste of warm temps too, but now it is raining and the temps will be plummeting again. I have no answers for you, dustt; only my sympathies. Spring is the cruelest season.

You sound like you are in my neck of the woods.

I am so with you! I would just like to be able to move from the winter coat to the lined trench! It was 19 degrees when I got up today with a windchill of 9!!

Glad I didn't pack away the cashmere and merino wool yet. *sigh*

Well, let's see...I wore heavy leather lined jacket, scarf, boots and froze my tush off...
Was I a fashion mavern?,,,not exactly but as cold as it turned it wasn't worth it...

I hear you loud and clear and join your chorus.

Ugh.

I try to "lighten" up in colour but not fabric weight. So...the white jeans, the sweaters with lighter colours or patterns. Layers. And at a certain point I just refuse to wear the puffer no matter how cold it is. Enough is enough. Enough!

I'm afraid, in my part of the world, I have the exact opposite problem! We seem to have skipped right over spring and landed in summer. This probably doesn't sound too bad to those of you dealing with snow on the ground, but I'm rather sad that I don't really have the weather to wear my spring weight sweaters and jackets.

So here is tomorrow's plan - expected high 40 - woot!! -

BR - ivory & black trellis print ankle pants - I'm sure I'll need socks for the commute!! - so embarrassing!!

RL - black cashmere turtleneck

emerald green - patent skinny belt

emerald green - patent flats - I'll take my socks off once I reach my office

short green trench - hopefully hubs will warm up my car - so I don't freeze on the commute - long wool coat still in backseat of car

Thistle my merino and cashmere are still getting daily wear as well - I love them but we've had way too much together time this winter!!

Suz - I haven't gotten my head around the totally white jeans before Easter thing - I do ivory most of the winter - but those ivory cords are about to get burned in the fire pit as soon as the snow melts!! - but I'm channeling your light pant vibe with the ivory/black trellis pants!! and I'm on the verge of the threatening the puffer with the fire pit too - maybe I should just drop it at the cleaners before I sacrifice it to the fire.

This winter really made me appreciate the biphasic color scheme for sweaters--having some silvery grays, creams, orchid colors for March and early April.
And wearing tights under thinner pants even though (shhh) wearing loafers or oxfords. No bare ankles even inside. I just called it my own fashion statement.

I'm on the other end of the spectrum...by October I would give anything for temps below 85 degrees. We often don't see Fall until mid November, so I tend to buy one set of Summer clothes in Summer colors and then buy a few Summer-weight things in Fall colors, so I at least get a change with a nod to the season that should be. We've had several days in the 70s and 80s so far, but today is "chilly" again in the 40s, with 60s and 70s starting tomorrow. I dressed in sandals and a tee today, opened the garage door and went back to change to a sweater and loafers.

What Suz said! I don't have an extended winter in the sense that you gals do with snow but spring where I live is the worst season of the year, often grizzly and wet and cool (though surprisingly nice so far this year). I usually scout the trends early and then scour the end-of-season winter sales to find a few winter items that fit into the upcoming spring trends I'm interested in. Then I can wear those items through May when it actually warms up enough to wear all spring stuff, sprinkling in spring items from March on as allows.

We had beautiful weather over the weekend with temps all the way in the high 60's. The temperature fell over thirty degrees yesterday, and we woke up to snow on the ground. Aargh! I've put together a "Cruel April" capsule. It has some lighter colors but still plenty of warm toppers when needed. Today, for example, I wore my Zara long pink cardigan over a long-sleeved shirt, but I wore a lighter-weight pant and snakeskin print Gap loafers. I had to wear nude trouser socks for warmth, though. If it looked seasonally confused, I don't care. It's the middle of April, for goodness sake!
