Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

what to wear w/ velvet pants

For reasons that are unclear to me, one of my mom's patients gave her a pair of $250 Theory pants to give to me. They're a black velvet and seem to be more of a dress pant. I never really wear pants though, especially such nice ones, except on interviews, and even then I don't know if velvet is the best material. Is there a way to wear them that isn't stuffy and overly formal?

What's the cut of the velvet? Is it lined? Very drapey? Straight leg, bootcut, etc? Elastic waist? Is it actual velvet or something like velveteen, where the pile is very short and stiffer?

I don't think I'd wear velvet pants on an interview.

Ehh, nevermind actually--I just realized they are way too tight! Guess they're going on ebay.
