What Statement Piece Are you Wishing for Fall/Winter?

I was thinking I want to get one really great statement piece this coming season , but with all that is going on in my crazy world, haven't moved past that to any specifics... How about my YLF friends jumping in with what Statement Piece they've already purchased or are still dreaming and looking towards getting?

I'm really glad you posted this question! I think a lot of us have this on our mind as the season is about to change. I am thinking of three different statement pieces, all to be worn at different times of course.

1. A bold sweater with oversized collar
2. A pair of tights with zany patterns on them
3. A pair of knee high boots that stand out

What about you Tracy? What statement pieces did you have in mind?

I've been searching for a navy leather jacket for years now. While this would be a statement piece, it'd also be a wardrobe workhorse/staple.

I bought a black kimono in winter, which will be a statement piece this NZ summer. My other planned purchases are basics to go with statement pieces I already have.

I recently purchased a pink blazer jacket - crayon pink - and this is also more of a statement piece.

A friend is a fashion designer and I often buy my statement pieces from her - I then need the wardrobe glue to hold them together!!

I am also going to be adding to my evening wear capsule. I'm hoping to find pieces which could be dressed down and added to "day" outfits for additional drama.

I lost my mind last week and bought the Helmut Lang villous sweatshirt after trying it on in the store. The small is a little too snug zipped up, so think I will exchange it for a medium; can't believe I've spent that much money but I love that it can be worn with jeans for everyday errands or dressed up. Just need to run a lot more errands to justify wearing it enough! Oh -- the other justification is that it's perfect weight for a SF bay weather pretty much year-round.

Hmm...I need an updated warm coat. Not sure if I'll go the wool route or puffer route, but it will take a chunk of my remaining 2014 clothing budget, so I want to choose well and have it last for several years.

IF there's money left after the coat, I would also like to replace my winter boots with something fab...

I'm not sure that I will actually be shopping this fall or winter - but, if I do, I'm thinking that I'd like either a new leather handbag or leather backpack. Probably the backpack would make more sense, since I already have many leather handbags.

I can't think of anything I'd want more than some absolutely fabulous Italian boots/ booties. Even if I get nothing else, some new, stand out, beautiful boots/booties will lift anything else I choose to wear.

It's so interesting Tracey, as I have just decided that I do want a statement piece this fall/winter. I just don't know what it will be. So I think I am right where you are. I need a coat, and I was going to get this Zara coat, and I still may, I don't know ... but I have decided not to use my birthday gift for it. Instead, I am taking DH to this great boutique in Boston and I'm just going to walk in and hope something speaks to me in a statement-y sort of way. I have no idea what it will be.

I think style-statement-wise my wishes are going to be shoes and accessories. I would love to add 1-2 new pair of boots, 1-2 belts, a scarf, a watch, and maybe a new pair of earrings or necklace. I want a rugged-but-put-together world traveler with an edge vibe.

From the practical side, I need to increase my bottom count by 2-3 and add some sweaters to the wardrobe--- plus a couple of underlayers and maybe a blouse or two. I want them to feed into my style direction by mainly going for new silhouettes and visiting the "trendy" for fall ink blue, deep red, and forest green color scheme.

I am not sure that I added statement pieces per se, but I feel really good about the things I've added to my fall wardrobe- booties in black, caramel and brown, several sweaters including one in fuchsia (which is my wildcard!), a couple of tube skirts, waxed skinnies, and black/bronze velveteen skinnies. If I keep the backpack I ordered, that will be my trend item.

I already bought a Halogen black leather jacket with the shimmery finish. But today I saw this Elizabeth and James plaid jacket - drooling! I may be more realistic with my budget and get the plaid Boden dress or this skirt that is supposed to be coming to Old Navy.

I love statement pieces way too much. The pieces I'm currently wishing for:

> cognac knee boots. I cannot get over how much I love this neutral with black and grey (and navy, and burgundy, and chocolate,
and forest green...). Since I have tons of black and charcoal in my
autumn/winter wardrobe, cognac boots will brighten it up without
intimidating me with color.
> a knee-length vest. There was a
St. John version that made me drool last season, and I think they've
refreshed the look. Asos had one, apparently, but it's out of stock.

> capes. I love capes, ruanas, wraps, and anything that helps me be less cold when transitioning toward winter.

Now you have me wondering. Maybe I already have mine. I have been wanting harness boots forever and finally got some but they probably won't get much wear until fall. Other than that I don't have anything in mind.

This is fun and I love all your answers! I wish I had time to reply individually to them all! No slowing down for me...We booked the Ireland trip yesterday and are going Oct 5th -22nd with the first half being spent with DH's huge family reunion, staying with DH second cousin (they've never met) and the second by ourselves staying in country castles. Will be fun for DH to stay in the house next door to wear his father grew up..

I wonder perhaps if I haven't already unknowingly purchased my statement piece as I have done a lot of off season shopping...

I bought awesome new Aigner black knee high boots with heels with an embossed A design on the top, love, them and DD bought the same ones!
Boots for the season make sense as a statement piece , but my frazzled brain didn't see that before your replies.. I knew asking the question would define it for me!

I have plenty of coats, but definitely think that is an important piece to have for the season and wish those that are looking for them the best of luck and hope when you find your statement pieces that you post them with that title , so I can make sure to take a look if my life is still crazy...

I recently fell in love with ponchos, so capes are a close cousin in my book and ruanas as well..It just so happens that I found a great clearance deal and bought 3 colors of capes in Navy, Emerald and Burgundy, in hopes of keeping one and gifting the others... I also picked up a ruana. This is a new interest of mine, something I am embracing for the first time , so that makes sense as a statement piece for me...

Could it really be that I am done before the season starts? Wouldn't that be a treat! I do know that mid season I will feel like I need something so perhaps I can continue reading and come up with what that will be...
