What Should I Wear? - Shell - YouLookFab Forum

So, I know there are lots of threads about "what to wear with this" or "what do you think of this outfit", but I'm posing a new challenge to the ylf forum. It is simply "what should i wear". I know there are rules for particular body types (I think I'm a rectangle, although I'm not sure all of the rules apply to me, as I still have a butt and a chest), but I guess I'd like to know what y'all would like to see me in.

I often have my own preconceived notions of what I should wear - I suppose I have developed my own "signature" style over the years (all 22 of them!). But I'd love to hear some suggestions from other people. I absolutely think body type, coloring, etc. should be taken into account, but I think it would be interesting to hear what you all have in mind.

This doesn't have to be for any occasion in particular, although you can totally make suggestions for some if you'd like. Here are a few pictures to get an idea of what I look like.

Oh, and don't necessarily worry about my pre-existing style. I'm very willing to consider things outside of my comfort zone! Consider a blank slate

Do you want us to take lifestyle, budget and season into consideration?

What's your body type/height again? Do you have a short waist or long legs or anything like that we need to know about?

you can take lifestyle into account - i work in a casual office and go to school. as for budget, you don't necessarily have to take it into account. im looking more for ideas - i can always try to find cheaper versions of something if i love it im open to suggestions for any season.

for body type, id say rectangle, but like i said, my boobs and butt aren't exactly flat, so im not a rectangle from all angles. i'm 5'6. usually wear size twelve or fourteen, depending on the store. i'd say i have a longer waist, as pants usually are hemmed and shirts need to be bought longer.

Hi Shell, I took a look at your album as a starting point, to see what kinds of looks I like the best on you. Thought that might be helpful.

My favorite is the blue dress with the yellow detail, both with and without the yellow cardi. It's a great dress and very flattering on you. So I'd think other dresses in this cut/style would be great.

I also like you in the white pants with the longer top. I'd look for more such tunic tops or short dresses, in a crisp fabric and with structure, to wear over straight jeans. I think that could be a great look.

A look that I don't see in your album but that somehow seems to me like it would look cute on you is layering a vest or a sweater over a shirt, with the shirt peeking out at the bottom. Have you tried that? You could try that over a pencil skirt or pants.

One of my favourite outfits EVER on this forum is your outfit with the blue dress, yellow belt, and green cardi, which you posted a while back. Because of how well you rock a dress, I think it would be awesome if you expanded your dress wardrobe as much as possible. For some reason I think you could work a retro-inspired dress (fit-and-flare style). I also think you'd look adorable in colourful flats with casual day dresses (I notice you generally pair skirts and dresses with heels). I think colours like saturated blues and greens, yellows, bright or deep pinks, and of course red should be/are great for you. That outfit that I mentioned is great because it is youthful, bright, and fun, and I think that's what is perfect for you. Just my $0.02.

I hands down, without a doubt like you best in dresses. You have the perfect prerequisites – curvy bod and shapely legs. I’d put you in dress every day (kicking and screaming l’m sure, but you said we could play dress up doll!)

Others have mentioned how great you look in dresses, so I'll say that I also love the big chunky beads on you. I'd like to see you have an assortment of large fun jewelry pieces. I think you'd also look great in wedge shoes. They are more comfy than heels but still make legs look great.

antje - love the idea of a vest over a blouse! in fact, i decided to wear that combo today! i had this navy pinstriped vest for some time now, and finally found a blouse to pair it with! ill post it later today, i think. as for wearing a pencil skirt - ive tried on this style before, but im not sure it looks the greatest. maybe i just havent found the right one, but i tend to opt for fluted skirts to balance out my shape a little more.

becky, susan, lannie, and angie - thanks for all the remarks on the dresses! i do love wearing dresses, although it's not always practical. i work in the construction management field, and i'm not sure how a dress, hardhat, and work boots would look together i don't always go out to the sites, so on office days, i think a dress is a fab idea! sounds like i just have to invest in more work-appropriate dresses!

joy - the chunky beads are such a great idea as well! i have several already, but i seem to have a propensity for breaking them! dont ask me how! so i have a couple that i need to rebead - like my absolute favorite gold chunky beaded necklace (the one i wore with the br wrap dress). i also have a few wedges, but they don't always get worn b/c it seems like i never have an occassion! i generally wear flats at work when i wear pants b/c all my jeans are hemmed for flats. but, i think i may wear a pair tonight out to the movies!

y'all are so sweet to play dress up with me! of course, if anyone else has suggestions, id love to hear them!
